SAIGO TAKAMORII
SAIGO TAKAMORI, a leader in the Meiji Restoration,was highly trusted by the
Meiji Emperor and became commander of the newly created Imperial guard.
Saigo was born in Shata-Kajiya-machi goju (School district)in 1827.
He was named Takanaga at birth,but was later also known by
such names as Kichinosuke and Nanshu.
As nise-gashima (youth leader) he presented his views on
agricultural administration to Load Shimzu Nariakira.
Nariakira was impressed and selected Saigo to be one of his close associates.
When Nariakira died,suddenly Saigo attempted suicide with his monk friend,
Gessho, by drwning in Kinko Bay, but Saigo survived and was exiled to Amami Oshima.
Later, with the help of Okubo Toshimichi, he rejoined the anti-shogunate faction
negotiated the secret alliance of Satsuma and Chosyu,led the imerial restoration
and negotiated the peaceful surrender of the Shogun's castle in Edo.
While the new addministration, Saigo was appointed to the cabinet,
He abolished the old man and replaced them with the modern prefectures.
When Iwakuma, Kido and Okubo were in Europe, Saigo took complete change of the Govenment.
However, in 1873,defeated in a dispute over.
The sending of envoys to Korea,he resigned and returned to Kagoshima.
He fouonded a private school, Shigakko, and trained the young men of Satsuma.
The youthful ardor of his students inspired him to lead another
this time unsuccessful rebellion the Seinan Civil War in 1877,
Saigo took his own life on Shiroyama.

Load Shimazu who imspired Saigo,had very inquisitive personality.
Especially, there is a close relation between him and them.
--"Hinomaru" has the meaning of
"The land where the sun rising at first in the world.",
so and deserves to be called it.--

Satsuma-Kiriko
The Cut glass made in Kagoshima
The manufacturing of glass at Kagoshima,had begin since 1846 by The Load Shimazu Narioki.
His son,The Load Shimazu Nariakira reserched color glasses since he succeed in 1851,
they successed at last and the color of red by copper is very famous as Satsuma Kiriko.
Satsuma-Kiriko,base was from England,Bohemia and China,
and build their original style at last called as "Satsuma-bead"
"ROKUGATSUDO" at Terukuni Shrine
"ROKUGATSUDO"--a summer festival of Kagoshima,
are held in every shrines at Kagoshima
during the summer from middle July to early August.
ONSEN--hot springs,spa
There are a lot of spa not only Ibusuki,
where surrounded by beautiful nature.
This picture taken at "Furusato-onsen" Mt.Sakurajima,
We have to wear a paper white kimono when we take this onsen
because of there is dedicated a God to this place,
so that we must be clean from inside for God.
