Oh My Goddess!
Audience: PG
Genre: Comedy/Romance
Contains: Mild Sexual Innuendo
Rating: B

The anime OVA based on the Kosuke Fujishima manga is light-hearted romance.  While it suffers from a serious lack of length and a low amount of character development, it's a very charming, beautiful and enjoyable eye-candy of an

anime that's still worth watching.

Shy college student, Keichi Morisato, accidently stumbles upon a Goddess Hotline while trying to order takeout, and soon enough a beautiful goddess named Belldandy appears from his mirror giving him the oppurtunity to one wish. Keichi wishes for her to be with him forever. But are soon kicked out of the dorm for violating the "no women" rule. This anime mostly concentrates on the romantic bond between Keichi and Belldandy, even through the chaos of a relationship between a human and a goddess....

The character design by Kosuke Fujishima is gorgeous, the animation also has a very dreamlike feel to it, due to the faded-out backgrounds, which are used to good effect. The music is also good ranging from romantic piano-solos to

50's Rock music which add to the cheerful score.

The only problem with "Oh My Goddess!" is that it deserves much more than it really has. It's only a five episode OVA all thirty minutes each, and some of the characters from the manga were cut from the anime,  (notice that there is

no real antagonist) although they do make a slight appearance in the opening animation.  A major change from the manga is Belldandy herself, while in the manga she had more human qualities, in the anime she is too friendly and perfect in which some may find her too likable or too annoying. (I kinda like the anime Belldandy better.) The other characters are also likable as well, such as the sultry, good intensioned, but troublesome Urd and her cute and brainy

sister Skuld. The main characters themselves develop within the series, but not much.  It also never really lets us get to know the other characters, (like a fighting game anime they make slight appearances). The OVA gets of too a fun light-hearted start within the first three episodes, but the anime soon grows a bit darker when the fourth episode kicks off, which fully threatens Keichi and Belldandy's relationship. (This is also where some actual plot kicks in.) While flawed, I couldn't help but be drawn in into "Oh My Goddess" nonetheless. Although I am a more hardened anime otaku (DBZ forever!) I enjoyed Oh My Goddess! nonetheless and becamed enthralled with the romance between Keichi and Belldandy.

All in all, Oh My Goddess! is simply gorgeous eye-candy(there are also some cute ending credit animations.)and an enjoyable anime. While it could've been much better as a longer OVA,(or better yet, a TV Series) Oh My Goddess is

good to the very last drop. :)
