The year is 1919. The first Demon War has passed and the second war is now taking place. At the Kanzaki Heavy Industries, scientists and engineers secretly work to develop special machine robots called the "Oobu", which may be the key in defeating these alienous monsters. After some testing, they learn they need people with powerful psychic skills (spiritually) to power the machines. We soon find out that only women have enough spiritual power so a special group of women (each with their own special skills) is assembled from all around the world. Their main goal: to defend the world as well as Tokyo from the demons and pilot the Oobu, thus creating the "Imperial Floral Assault Unit". Their main headquarters is disguised as a theatre to keep other people as well as demons from discovering the industries' location.
Sakura, shown in the picture above, is the main character of the series who happens to be one of the few with psychic abilities. Kanzaki Sumire, the snooty granddaughter of the president of Kanzaki Heavy Industries, is also one of the women able to pilot the Oobu. Other girls include Ayame and Maria. Strangely enough, the leader appointed for the group is a handsome young navy man. His name is Ohgami and he also holds a great amount of spirit power, which is strange because it was thought that only women had enough spirit power. Later we see a bit of romance between him and Sakura, which causes some disturbance with the other women.. FYI: the Sakura Wars series was based on the popular Japanese video game: Sakura Taisen. The voices, music, and animation were all pretty good.
