that's the picture from the ad for ralph lauren's Romance perfume. isn't it cute? =)
welcome to the world of sap. this is a page meant for the hopeless romantics, the sappy ones, the believers in true love. however far-fetched that may be. =) without us, the world would be a very dull, ugly place. so i pay tribute to all things romantic and *girly*, whatever that's supposed to mean.the above is a campaign (Hopeless Romantic And Damn Proud) that i learned about by visiting my friend and fellow sap cherry's page and then visiting the webpage about the campaign itself. it's for hopeless romantics like you (hopefully) and me to stick together. i think it's a really good idea, don't you?? if you want to join and declare yourself a hopeless romantic (and damn proud of it!), click the banner thing.
so anyway, i want to put some info here about romantic books/movies/stuff. oh yes...i need to also make a page on my harem of two-dimensional guys ;) (it is just pretty much a blank page w/ a link now...). ooh, and i want to do some summaries of foreign dramas/movies and stuff like that. =) it will come, it will come...
-BOOKS-
I thought I'd start off working on this page by writing a blurb about some sappy books. ;) The first that I wanted to talk about was The Blue Castle by Lucy Maud Montgomery. L.M. Montgomery was the author of the Anne of Green Gables books, and I really love her work! I started reading her books in third or fourth grade and I just never grew out of them. They're love stories, mostly, although some are just really beautiful stories about family and friends and...er...life. The general optimistic tone that runs through her stories is one of my favorite things about them. Seldom do the stories have unhappy endings, and even if the endings are sad, they're the kind of sad endings that give you a happy ache. (I don't know how much sense that makes...bear with me :) heh) Anyway. The Blue Castle is probably my favorite of her single novels (she doesn't seem to have many of them. Single novels, I mean. There's the Anne series, which was eight volumes long, and then there's the Emily series, which was three volumes long, etc...and a whole bunch of short stories collections made after her death, I think.)...actually, it's probably one of my favorites out of all her novels. But it can only be appreciated by fellow saps.
Quick summary: Valancy Stirling is twenty-nine years old and unmarried, which is a shameful thing in the day and society she lived in. She's had a pretty miserable life, cowed by her annoying and domineering relatives, lacking the will and/or motivation to rebel or do anything whatsoever that anybody in her clan didn't approve of. The only place she's ever felt free is her imaginary "Blue Castle," the home of her daydreams. On her twenty-ninth birthday, however, things start to change. She goes into town to get a book from the library and to see a doctor (without consulting anyone in her family) about some pains she's had around her heart. What she finds out after this visit shocks her into action: she has only one year left to live. With this thought in the back of her mind, she throws caution and propriety to the winds and decides to start living her life the way she's always wanted to. And so her story begins.
So if you're interested, here is the first chapter of the book for your reading enjoyment. If you like it, please go buy the book yourself. I really love it, and this isn't meant to be copyright infringement or anything. I just want other people to appreciate it too. ^_-
-SHORT STORIES-
And here is a link to a short story that my friend sent me. It's one of those things that gives me the aforementioned 'happy ache.'
