Sonic the Hedgehog; Episode #1
OPENING SCENE:
We see a huge room with lots of screens and displays showing various data.
A lifeless Metal Sonic is hanging in a blue energy field.
EGGMAN
Hyper Metal Sonic! Now all that is left to do is to copy all the Life Data.
Then you will awaken in perfect form!
With Eggman's last words, Metal Sonic's eyes start glowing red.
TITLE: Journey To EggmanLand
Wide shot of the clouds. OJISAN the owl is flying in some sort of
mini-plane toward a floating island with mountains and a lake, where
SONIC's headquarters is.
Sonic is relaxing on the beach in his beach-chair, with sunglasses on and
a stereo beside him. TAILS comes running out of the headquarters, holding a
surfboard.
TAILS
Sonic! Sonic, I finished it! Isn't it cool? A jet propelled surfboard!
You want to try it out?
SONIC
I'll pass.
TAILS
(runs off toward the lake with his board)
Then I'll try!
SONIC
Ah, Tails... he's still just a kid.
Sonic turns on the stereo and enjoys the music.
Tails puts the surfboard into the water and starts it up. The board zooms
away with him, splashing a huge wave of water onto Sonic. Tails does some
stunts on the board while it zooms past, splashing Sonic with water a
second time.
TAILS
Sonic c'mon! You don't even need to know how to swim!
SONIC
Just be careful not to crash into something.
Sonic lies back in his beach chair. Suddenly a loud "BOOM" is heard.
TAILS
(screaming in the distance)
Aaaahhh!!!
Sonic looks out at the lake, but sees only the trail of water from Tails'
surfboard.
SONIC
Oh, guess he's just playing around.
Again Sonic lies back in his chair and tries to relax.
TAILS
(screaming in the distance)
Sonic, help! Sonic, can you hear me? Sonic, help!!
Sonic tries to ignore the screaming, until he goes into a spin in his chair
because he can't stand it anymore.
SONIC
Aah, shut up, Tails!
Tails comes into view, and we see that Ojisan's plane flies close behind,
ready to collide with him. Tails jumps off at the last moment. The
plane collides with Sonic's beach chair, then flies upward, trailing
smoke.
Tails hovers overhead, but can't see Sonic.
TAILS
(worried)
Sonic... are you all right, Sonic?
The clouds of sand settle, and we see that Sonic is unharmed.
SONIC
I'm fine but... what's that?
Ojisan flies by in his burning plane.
OJISAN
(waving from the cockpit)
Mr. Sonic! How are you?
SONIC
What does Ojisan want here?
TAILS
Sonic, hurry and do something!
SONIC
Since you can fly, why don't you do it instead?
TAILS
(shouting)
Sonic you MORON!
Tails flies after Ojisan.
TAILS
I can do it by myself! Ojisan! Ojisan!
OJISAN
Oh, Tails! Long time no see. I have a message.
TAILS
Ojisan, your plane is burning!
OJISAN
(looks at the burning engine)
Oh! I didn't notice...
TAILS
Hold on, I'll do something!
Tails tries to grab hold, but a sudden explosion in the plane's engine
sends him tumbling backwards in the air.
TAILS
That won't stop me!
Tails speeds after the plane and finally lands on its left wing, tilting
it back into a horizontal position.
OJISAN
Oh, Tails. Well done!
TAILS
I just practiced that on my surfboard.
OJISAN
That's an achievement.
TAILS
Ojisan... look AHEAD!
OJISAN
Huh? Hold on...
Ojisan adjusts his glasses, and sees that his plane is heading directly for
the cliffs.
OJISAN
Aaahaaahh!!!
TAILS
(screaming)
SOONICC!!!
Sonic hears the scream and comes to the rescue at top speed. Just as the
plane hits the cliffs, Sonic manages to pull Tails and Ojisan out.
TAILS
Thank you, Sonic.
A little away from the smoking remains of the plane. Ojisan is in shock,
keeping a position as if he would still sit in his plane and hold the
control stick.
OJISAN
Aah... aah... ah...
SONIC
Ojisan! Ojisan...
Sonic picks up a crab that walks by and changes its course toward Ojisan.
The crab tweaks Ojisan in the foot. Ojisan jumps up with a scream, and
finally snaps out of it.
SONIC
Ojisan, why don't you stop riding planes?
OJISAN
(while facing a blue flower that is about Sonic's height)
What are you talking about, Mr. Sonic? When I was young I used to win
the World Speed Race. Ha ha ha!
TAILS:
(speaking from behind Ojisan)
Ojisan, you said you had a message.
Ojisan realizes that he is looking in the wrong direction and quickly zips
to the other side, again facing one of the blue flowers.
OJISAN
Yes, the President wants you... um... umm... umm....
SONIC
To come to South Island?
OJISAN
Yes! That's it! You must hurry!
SONIC
For something like that, why didn't you use the phone?
OJISAN
(embarrassed)
Uh... yeah.
Sonic and Tails board their bi-plane, getting ready for takeoff.
SONIC
Ojisan, you watch the house, okay?
OJISAN
(while waving goodbye in the opposite direction)
I will.
SONIC
No, he won't.
(to Tails)
Let's go Tails.
TAILS
Okay, Sonic.
Tails starts the plane, and both fly off.
OJISAN
Have a safe journey.
Wide shot of a set of floating islands that are connected by bridges, with
high-tech cities built on them. On a separate island is the PRESIDENT's
palace.
SONIC
President, what's so important?
EGGMAN
(turning around in the president's chair)
He he he, its been a long time Sonic and Tails.
TAILS
Dr. Eggman!
EGGMAN
I'm here to ask a favor.
Two laser rifles are being aimed at Sonic and Tails from behind, but before
the rifles start firing the heroes have already moved out of the way, and
destroy the robots that hold the rifles in an instant.
SONIC
What favor is that?
Sonic goes into a Spin Dash and is about to attack Eggman.
PRESIDENT
No, Sonic stop!
We see the president and Sera, held captive by Eggman's ROBOTS.
SONIC
That's no fair play, Eggman.
EGGMAN
He he he!
TAILS
Eggman, taking the President and Sera hostage, I'll bet you're trying to
take over the capital!
EGGMAN
You think I would do something so shallow?
ROBOTS
We do!
EGGMAN
Listen Sonic, this is for the sake of your world.
SONIC
No way!
Eggman walks over to Sera.
EGGMAN
You mean you don't care about Sera?
SERA
Daddy... help!
PRESIDENT
Sera! Sonic, please listen what Eggman has to say.
SONIC
(bored)
I have no choice. So talk, Eggman.
EGGMAN:
Very well.
Eggman produces a small ball-shaped hologram of Sonic's world.
EGGMAN
This planet consists of two worlds. The one you live on is called the
"Earth of the Sky"...
SONIC
(interrupting)
Everyone knows that!
EGGMAN
(to Sonic)
Shut up, I'm telling!
(continues)
Now, underneath this world lies the "Earth of Darkness". This is where I
built my high-tech city called EggmanLand. But one day an enemy named
Dark-Eggman appeared and conquered my city with his troops. Then he took
my Egg-Generator, a powerful energy producer, and set it on self-destruct.
It will explode at sunset if you don't stop it... huh?
Eggman glances over to his audience, and notices that everyone, including
his robot troops, have fallen asleep.
EGGMAN
Ah, it won't be my fault when THIS happens.
Eggman pulls out a needle and sticks it into the ball-shaped hologram,
producing a loud "BANG".
PRESIDENT
So how can we help you, Eggman?
EGGMAN
There's only one person on this planet fast enough to reach EggmanLand in
time to turn off the Egg-Generator... (points to Sonic)
SONIC
No. YOU built that machine. So why me?
PRESIDENT
Sonic! Sonic, you are the only one that can save South Island... no, the
world!
SERA
Daddy is right. Please. Do it for me, Sonic.
SONIC
Fine! But 99 percent of what Eggman says is a lie.
TAILS
But what if this is the 1 percent?
SERA
Sonic...
PRESIDENT
Sonic...
SONIC
Oh, all right.
TAILS
(proud)
Sonic!
EGGMAN
Here Tails, take this.
Eggman attaches a device to Tails' wrist.
TAILS
What's that?
Tails pushes a button on the device. It pops open, showing a radar display
and control panels.
EGGMAN
A navigator! It will show you the fastest way to EggmanLand.
TAILS
Thanks, Eggman...
SONIC
Let's go, Tails.
TAILS
(nods)
Sonic and Tails fly to the entrance of the "Earth of Darkness" in their
bi-plane. Sonic is standing on top of the plane's wings.
SONIC
Can we really trust that device? It's probably a bomb or something.
TAILS
We have no choice. The only person who knows the way to EggmanLand is Eggman.
I wonder if Sera and the president are okay.
Meanwhile Sera and Eggman play a video game (some hind of wrestling game
starring Eggman and Sera). After a short fight Eggman wins.
SERA
No, no, no! You always win! I want to try again.
EGGMAN
Now will you stop it? We've done this a hundred times.
SERA
You want to give up?
EGGMAN
One more time.
Short intermission showing Sonic and Tails, still on their way.
Again Eggman wins against Sera.
SERA
No, no, no! That's it... I give up! I wanna go on a ride.
EGGMAN
Too bad.
SERA
(screaming)
NO, NO, NO! I WANNA GO ON A RIDE!
A huge robot crashes through the floor. The cockpit opens, showing various
kinds of controls.
PRESIDENT
What the...?
SERA
Yahoo, that's great, Eggman!
Sera jumps into the cockpit and starts meddling with the controls.
SERA
I get to drive!
Eggman jumps after Sera and tries to pull her away from the controls.
EGGMAN
No, wait! Sera, don't push that button...
The cockpit closes.
PRESIDENT
SERA!!
Sonic and Tails fly through a huge cloud, and suddenly see a giant vortex
in the sky.
SONIC
Is this the entrance to the "Earth of Darkness"?
TAILS
The air current is strong... hold on tight, Sonic.
The plane dives into the vortex, and Sonic has a hard time keeping his
grip on the plane's wings.
TAILS
Almost there... hold on!
The plane comes out of the vortex, but is already too close to the ground
and crash-lands. Sonic crawls out of the wreckage.
SONIC
Tails... Tails, are you okay?
Tails crawls out behind Sonic.
TAILS
I'm fine. But I'm worried about the Tornado. (his plane)
Both look around in astonishment.
SONIC
So this is the "Earth of Darkness".
TAILS
EggmanLand seems to lie straight ahead.
SONIC
What are we waiting for?
Sonic and Tails race toward EggmanLand, but their course is crowded with
obstacles of all kind, and they have a hard time to fight their way through.
SONIC
Isn't this weird. I'll bet Eggman sent us this way on purpose.
TAILS
Well, there seems to be a shortcut. There is a Warp Zone ahead.
SONIC
Let's go then!
Both disappear in the Warp, and re-appear totally exhausted in a strange
city that looks like a post-war New York, complete with car wrecks and
One Way traffic signs, void of anything living.
SONIC
Where are we?
TAILS
Hmmm... we came out of the Warp... this must be an ancient city.
SONIC
An ancient city. I never heard there were such things down here.
TAILS
EggmanLand should be close by. Lets go someplace high.
SONIC
Okay.
Sonic zips up to the spire of the highest skyscraper around, from where they
see that the city has been sunk halfway into the ocean.
SONIC
Wow... the city is sinking!
TAILS
Sonic, maybe the Egg-Generator is causing it. It shouldn't be too far away.
SONIC
Let's go.
Suddenly a lightning flashes, and Tails clings to his friend worriedly.
TAILS
Iiiiie!! I hate lightning!
Sonic and Tails race through the city.
SONIC
So, we just keep going straight?
TAILS
That's what the device says.
A laser blast hits the ground right in front of Sonic and Tails, stopping
them in their tracks. DARK-EGGMAN, a gigantic robot, appears in front of
them.
DARK-EGGMAN
He he he he he...
TAILS
You must be Dark-Eggman!
DARK-EGGMAN
That's me. You deserve praise for making it this far... to your grave!
SONIC
(self-confident)
We don't have time to play with you. Move aside.
DARK-EGGMAN
Not a chance!
Dark-Eggman starts shooting, but Sonic and Tails are too fast for his aim.
DARK-EGGMAN
Hold still!
Sonic does a Spin Attack at Dark-Eggman's head, but only hurts his shin.
SONIC
OW!!
DARK-EGGMAN
I'm made of pure steel.
Tails lands on Dark-Eggman's face and grabs hold. Dark-Eggman tries to
smash the fox, but Tails is faster and Dark-Eggman only hits himself.
Both Sonic and Tails laugh until Dark-Eggman starts shooting again.
Finally they hide behind an old bus.
DARK-EGGMAN
Come out. Whereever you are, I'll find you.
SONIC
We don't have time for this. Which way to EggmanLand?
TAILS
This way. Past the highway.
SONIC
Let's go, Tails.
TAILS
Okay, Sonic.
Before they leave, Sonic and Tails decide to taunt Dark-Eggman and make
fun of him.
SONIC
Hey slowpoke!
DARK-EGGMAN
What?!
SONIC
You can't catch us! Maybe we can play later-- ulp!
Dark-Eggman unfolds a set of giant wings and activates his turbo booster.
SONIC and TAILS
Oh noo...!
Both start running along the highway, with Dark-Eggman flying close behind.
SONIC
Eggman never told us Dark-Eggman could fly!
Dark-Eggman tries to grab Tails out of the air and misses only by a few
inches.
TAILS
Sonic!!
SONIC
Tails, grab on to me!
Tails grabs Sonic's hand. Both speed off, but Dark-Eggman launches missiles
that destroy the bridge on which Sonic is running. Only at the last moment
Sonic is able to stop his fast pace before falling into the gap.
SONIC
Whew! That was a close one.
When Sonic and Tails look up, they see that Dark-Eggman is looming right
above them, with his gun raised.
DARK-EGGMAN
Go and drown!
Dark-Eggman blasts away the last piece of the road on which Sonic and Tails
are, and both fall into the gap.
SONIC and TAILS
Aaaah! Help! We can't swim! Aaah! Blub blub blub...
As the Point of View moves downward, we see that Sonic and Tails are holding
onto a metal girder below the bridge, from where they faked their drowning.
DARK-EGGMAN
(in the distance)
I guess that takes care of them.
TAILS
(smiling)
It worked!
SONIC
Lets go!
An explosion is heard, and Tails again clings to Sonic.
TAILS
Iiiiie!!
SONIC
Not again...
Sonic and Tails sneak away from the bridge and along the harbor, but
suddenly Dark-Eggman appears behind them.
DARK-EGGMAN
I'm not all THAT stupid.
TAILS
Aiiieee!!
DARK-EGGMAN
Take this!
Dark-Eggman starts shooting again, this time with some kind of glue. Sonic
and Tails make a run for it.
SONIC
What is this stuff?
Tails gets hit and is glued to a metal fence.
TAILS
Sonic!!
SONIC
(looking back)
Tails!
DARK-EGGMAN
Now all I have to do is take care of YOU...
Dark-Eggman fires missiles at Sonic, and the hedgehog has to flee. The
following explosion is noticed by KNUCKLES, who was digging in the ground
outside the city.
DARK-EGGMAN
(to Tails)
He he he he... now I will finally kill you.
TAILS
Those missiles won't stop Sonic, he will save me. Look!
Sonic zooms toward Dark-Eggman, riding on one of the missiles.
SONIC
Take this Dark-Eggman!
DARK-EGGMAN
Ee!
Dark-Eggman turns around and tries to get away, but the missile hits him
straight in the back. Sonic gets hit by the pressure wave, and when
the smoke clears he has stepped in a puddle of the glue.
TAILS
Sonic!
SONIC
Oh no!
Dark-Eggman comes into view again, damaged but still functional.
DARK-EGGMAN
Even if you have the fastest feet, when you can't run you are just an
ordinary hedgehog.
As the robot walks forward, the cemented ground cracks, and several pieces
(including the one Sonic is glued to) sink downward, while the resulting
holes fill with water from the nearby ocean.
TAILS
Sonic! I'm coming!
Tails pulls on his sticky restraints, but can't get free. Dark-Eggman aims
at Sonic, but before he can fire Knuckles hits the robot with such force
that it falls backwards.
TAILS
Knuckles!
Knuckles frees Tails from the glue.
KNUCKLES
Hurry and help Sonic!
Tails tries to hover, but notices that there is still some of the glue in
his tails, holding them together.
TAILS
My tails are stuck! I can't fly!
Tails sees a piece of metal falling down from the Dark-Eggman robot. He
grabs it and uses it as a surfboard to zip over the water toward Sonic.
TAILS
Sonic, hold on!
DARK-EGGMAN
(fighting Knuckles)
Who is the new one?
Sonic is already covered by water up to his nose. Tails tries to pull him
out, but the hedgehog's feet are still held by the glue.
TAILS
(pulling with all his might)
Sonic, hold on!!
Knuckles dodges Dark-Eggman's fire, until he too accidentally steps into a
puddle of the glue.
KNUCKLES
Shit!
Dark-Eggman tries to shoot Knuckles, but is out of ammo.
DARK-EGGMAN
No more ammo? Lucky pest.
Dark-Eggman grabs Knuckles with one of his metal hands and lifts him up.
DARK-EGGMAN
Time to die.
With one mighty heave, Tails frees Sonic from the glue. Sonic immediately
goes into a Spin Attack and cuts off the robotic hand that holds Knuckles.
SONIC
Thanks, Knuckles.
KNUCKLES
Same here.
DARK-EGGMAN
No! Oh well...
SONIC
Don't try to leave now, Dark-Eggman!
DARK-EGGMAN
We will meet again, ha ha ha ha!
KNUCKLES
Grab on, Sonic!
Knuckles glides through the air after Dark-Eggman, pulling Sonic along with
him. Sonic spin-dashes through the flying robot, causing it to explode and
fall into the ocean. Sera and Eggman stick their heads out of the destroyed
robot.
EGGMAN
I'll get revenge! In EggmanLand there is an even more powerful enemy waiting
for you...
Sera gives Eggman a good hit on the head with a metal pole.
SERA
Dark-Eggman... hmph... YOU are Dark-Eggman! Don't you dare to hurt my
Sonic!
SONIC
You've been a big help, Knuckles.
KNUCKLES
I was just around accidentally. Well, we've been together for a long
time, so you can pay me back when there's an opportunity.
TAILS
You mean you will continue searching for treasures?
KNUCKLES
Yes, that's my destiny.
At this moment, the clouds part and the sun becomes visible, right over the
horizon. The friends realize that there isn't much time left to turn off
the Egg-Generator.
TAILS
We must hurry!
KNUCKLES
Why that?
Suddenly the ground shakes and the lights go on in all the buildings. On
a huge complex in the distance they create a giant face of Dr. Eggman.
TAILS
That must be EggmanLand!
SONIC
Wow! See you later, Knuckles.
TAILS
Good bye!
Sonic and Tails head for the generator complex, but soon Knuckles catches
up with them.
TAILS
Oh, Knuckles!
KNUCKLES
I'm worried about you two. I'll beat you there.
TAILS
(snickers)
Knuckles flies ahead.
KNUCKLES
C'mon! It'll explode if we don't hurry.
SONIC
Wait up, Knuckles!
