"Hello! Welcome
to my Dojo of Anything Goes Martial Arts! Meet my daughters later, come,
sit, talk!"
(Me) "Erm....
thanks."
"So, you want
to interview me for a web page you're making? What about?"
(Me) "I heard
you were a crybaby, is it true?"
(Soun gets
angry.... and transforms into a monsterous floating head.)
"WHAT DID
YOU SAY!?"
(Me) "erm...
heh heh..... nothing, nothing at all!...heh...."
(He calms
down.)
"Anything
else?"
(Me) "Then...
what about your family?"
"Oh! I'm proud
of my family of course, and I'm looking forwards to Akane's marriage."
(Akane's voice
from outside) "DAD! Who wants to marry that sexless jerk!"
(Ranma's voice)
"WHAT!? WHAT SEXLESS JERK, TOMBOY!?"
"Boohoohoo....
I wish they'd stop arguing... boohoohoo!!!"
Soun is actually
quite emotinal, probably as a result of his training under Happosai. He
sports a slick
moustache
that makes him look almost like George Lam, but with long hair. He owns
the "Anything Goes
Martial Arts"
Dojo, which will be inherited by Ranma when he marries Akane. By some strange
skill of
his, which
is very amusing, he can change into some gigantic, monstrous floating
head, which never
fails
to convince
Ranma to do anything asked of him. He also dresses up as a samurai
warrior occasionally.
Like Genma,
he's a wimp when it comes to Happosai and prefers to let Ranma deal
with him.
Soun dearly
loved his wife, and after her death, he stayed faithful and keeps burning
incense for her
dear
departed soul,
everyday and especially during certain anniversaries. Once Hinako tried
to get him to
marry
her, but failed.
This kind of faithful husband is hard to find...
He does care
for his three daughters though, and dearly loves them as much. He constantly
worries for
the three
of them, especially Akane, and despite his demeanor of being an emotional
father, he is willing
to become
the brave and courageous father, ready to sacrifice himself to protect
his daughters and
Ranma, so
that his honor can be saved. His honor is his pride, although a little
flexible.
Also, after
Genma and he got rid of Happosai, he got himself and his future daughters
into big trouble, by
making deals
with anyone willing to give him food to marry off his daughters to their
sons. I'm not sure
how many deals
he made, but I'm sure willing to bet he made at least half a dozen deals.
Think french
food.
"Hey! I only
made a few promises!"
(Me) "Yeah,
when "few" means about a half dozen!"
"Erm... true...
but I didn't always promise my daughters!"
(Me) "Well,
I know you love them, so... I won't pursue it anymore."

"Hi, RanMaFan baby. How're things
going?"
(Me) "Oh, hi Nabiki. I just stopped
by to interview you. I'm doing a page for the main cast of Ranma 1/2."
"Before we
start on anything, I want you to pay me first. To make it worth my while."
(Me) "Sigh...
how much do you charge?" (Taking out a wad of cash)
"1000 Yen
initial down payment, 500 yen every additional 1/2 hour thereafter."
(Me) "Here,
your 1000 yen. I'll make it REAL short."
"Start asking."
Nabiki is quite
simply the BEST mercenary in the whole Ranmaverse, and if she were real,
in this
universe as
well. She has the wits and cunning to extort money from any and everyone,
although she
prefers to
earn the money. Although what her definition of earn is, who knows? She
sells photos of
Onna-Ranma
in various states of undress, and Akane during her training sessions to
Kuno, 3 for 1000 yen.
She also rents
Ranma out, especially during the time when Ranma switched fiancees, trading
Akane for
Nabiki. Boy,
did she earn alot that time. But her wits and cunning were put to good
use vs. the Gambling
King once,
and whatever the rest lost, she managed to get back, especially after teaching
them the
"Winning"
Method.
Another plus
is that because she's so desirable to most of the guys in the Ranma world,
she can make alot
of money off the boys who date her,
making them pay for their expenses and all that, milking them dry.
Her closest match came once, but
she still won out by... 10 yen?
But, despite
her mercenary attitude, she can and is quite caring about the welfare of
the household, and
this is most
obviously shown between her concern for Akane and Ranma's engagement. Her
ability to
make up stories
are incredible, and although they appear to be negative at first, her incredible
cunning and
wit come into
play, and the results are always positive. This doesn't mean she'll pass
up a chance to make
money, but
it works.
Despite her
good side, she will never do something unless it benefits her as well,
and if someone else does
profit from
her, she'll dry that person too. She is VERY particular about her cash,
and will not spend any
if possible.
She loves to extort people as well, and no one's wallet is safe with her
around.
(Me) " Er...
ok, that's all I want to know."
"Right, cost
tally : You've interviewed me for 2 hours. That makes.... 2000 yen."
(Me) "Whew,
this was cheaper than I expected."
"Oh, I forgot. It's another 2000 yen for the copyrights to this interview."
(Me) "........"

"Huh? Hello?
Oh, it's you, RanMaFan!"
(Me) "Er...
yes Kasumi. Do you have some spare time?"
"Oh, I'm sorry,
I still have alot to do in the house : Sweep the floor, wash the dishes,
cook lunch....."
(Me) "Then
I won't bother. Sorry."
"Oh my, no
no, I didn't mean that... I can always make some spare time. Come, sit."
(Me) "Thanks."
Kasumi is the
"mother" of the family, taking over her duties since Soun's wife passed
away. Why her?
Well, she's
the oldest, but also because Nabiki's always busy making money and Akane's
a horrible cook.
She's sweet,
and loving, but somewhat ignorant to the happenings around her.(Her head's
in the clouds)
But this doesn't
mean that she's
simple, or easy to fool. I believe she had a boyfriend, as seen in the
Doco
track "Kara".
She occasionally
goes to visit Tofu to bring him things like snacks and such, but everytime
she is spotted
heading towards
Tofu's place, a red alert goes out at his clinic, as Tofu kind of loses
concentration
on everything
he does when she's around. Akane once had a small crush on him, but
dropped it
when she found
out he loved Kasumi.
But, there's
only 1 bad thing about Kasumi. (WHAT!? Kasumi's got a bad point!?) It's
that she only likes
men older
than her. That's it.
She is considered
one of the more sexy girls in Ranma 1/2, and outside of it too. She is
so innocent and
sweet that
anyone, in no matter how foul a mood, will always cheer up after seeing
her face, that
cheerful
smile and innocent
look. Concerning matters of other sorts, she takes everything in hand,
treating even
the most
dangerous and life-threatening situations with a surprisingly fresh approach.
Never
even think
about the
negative possibilities and do your best. This works for her, and nobody's
arguing.
In fact, because
she's SOOO nice and kind, caring and loving, she is ABSOLUTELY invulnerable
to
anyone who
is capable of doing even a little damage. Even (gasp!) Happosai!
"That's it
then, RanMaFan?"
(Me) "Yes,
thank you. Now, I won't bother you anymore. I'll go somewhere else."
"Please, won't
you stay a while..? I was going to make some tea for you. You look tired."
(Me) "Oh,
why not? Arigato, Kasumi-san."

"huff huff
huff... oh... hi, RanMaFan! Jogging too I see! I heard you wanted to ask
me something?"
(Me) "Huff...huff...
yeah.... I want to talk about your life.... for this web page!"
"Go ahead...
ask..."
(Me) "Are
you a tomboy....whoa!"
"What did
you say!????"
(Me) "Let
me rephrase that....."
(A voice like
Kuno's) "Akane! Please be mine..... aieeeeee....." (As Akane and RanMaFan
kick him off.)
Akane is also
a main character in the story, and most certainly as important as Ranma,
because without
her, most
of the stories wouldn't take place. The victim of various kidnappings,
plot twists, and schemes,
Akane's the
main driving force for most of the guys in the comics.
Akane isn't
actually that much of a tomboy, but is VERY hot-tempered, and quick to
explode when called
names, or
else something similar happens that makes her angry. (It doesn't take much.)
Otherwise, she's
quite sweet
as well, and cute.
Which is why every boy in Furinkan and most of the comics want her as
their girlfriend.
Her hobbies
would include training, training, training, and beating up Ranma. Her cooking
is absolutely
inedible, and
anyone eating her cooking would either end up dead or seriously ill. Somehow,
when she's
trying to pay
attention to her cooking, she ends up with the wrong ingredients, yet when
distracted,
makes PERFECTLY
normal food. She's also clumsy in almost all her endeavours, swimming,
sewing,
etc, and is fairly
slow witted. I know it's cruel, but my nickname for her is "hammerhead".
Like a
hammer, she
lands in the water "head" first, and sinks "head" first to the bottom.
However, she has been
known to skate
rather well, and does her physical training lessons quite well.
But enough
on that, I'll look at her abilities. Because of the tragic story of her
mother passing away when
she was still
VERY young, she never got a chance to learnt he finer intricacies of being
a girl, although
she
does have the
basics. Her temper probably stems from the fact that she tries her very
best in her
endeavours,
yet never gets any positive credit for it. She IS enthusiastic to learn
things, like cooking and
new moves,
yet because she is always TOO enthusiastic, she ends up overdoing it, thus
her clumsy
outward appearance.
She originally
sported long hair, when she still had a crush on Dr. Tofu, and was trying
to catch his
attention,
but it was cut short in the 2nd comic book, by one of Ryoga's stray cloth
bandanna shurikens.
In school,
she's always hounded by Tatewake Kuno, which
results in him being hit by either her, Ranma,
or both. Ryoga
also has a crush on her, although he's too
shy to tell her outright. She's also quite caring
for Ranma,
even though she publicly denies this, and does
love him dearly. (Dare you try to make her say this out publicly?)
Like Ranma,
she is clumsy when it comes to expressing her feelings in words too, and
it usually comes
out as an
insult. Instead, she prefers to show her affections for Ranma through her
actions, which seems
more fitting.
As another
meaning to the title, "Ranma 1/2", we could say that Akane provides...
Ranma's 1/2. You
know
as a tomboy, her
behavior is that of a boy.... and that's psychological. Ranma... well....
is girl,
physically.
2 pairs of halves
work together... fiancees, and complementing lives.
"Say, RanMaFan,
why not come to our place to try my new recipe?"
(Me) "Sorry...
gotta go... I got other people to interview......!!!" (Running off.)
"Sigh, no
one wants to try my cooking.....I'll get Ranma to try it!"
(A voice from
the wall beside her) "NO WAY!!!!!!"
"Come back here, you wimp!"
