Okinomiyaki cart was stolen by Genma when her father made a deal with him, saying he could have the
cart in return for marrying Ranma to Ukyo. Some promise. Genma ran off without Ukyo, and she's been
trying to find Ranma ever since. Practicing her oko(i?)nomiyaki skills by the seaside day after day, her
skills with the Giant-Oversized-Combat-Kick-Ass-Battle-Spatula (GOCKABS) are quite impressive.
She succeeded in finding Ranma, and set up shop in Nerima, somewhere near the school, where is
business is good after school, and Ranma's always getting free treats.
In school, she assumes a boy's outfit, flattening her chest with bandage wraps, and tying her hair up so
it won't hang down long. Her combat equipment include things to cook Okinomiyaki with, like extra
sticky dough, or oversized combat spatulas, and she's quite skilled with this. Even the smaller spatulas
become lethal projectiles in her hands, and she put all these to good use in her first fight with Ranma,
before he found out Ukyo was a girl. (He assumed Ukyo was similarly cursed and tried pouring hot
water on her.) This was because after Ranma and his father split with their cart, Ukyo was ridiculed by
all her friends, and therefore, finally ended up denying her sex and acting like a guy, in torment. Of
course, all it takes are a few praises about her cuteness to snap her back...
Quite an important a character in Ranma, but makes many appearances, and despite her love for Ranma,
shows those inconspicuous signs of ending up with Ryoga. She's always trying to get Ryoga and Akane
together so she can have Ranma to herself, although her plans aren't always successful. Her struggle to
be a successful Okinomiyaki chef and a perfect bride for Ranma can work for or against her, and
occasionally
they work the way she wants.
So, next time you eat Okinomiyaki, think of Ukyo, eh?
