The Memory of Wings
The Geneaology of a Star

The Memory of Wings Volume 1
Rin is a 13-year old middle school student infatuated with his sometime tutor and elder neighbor Sarashina. When Sarashina tells him that she may have to leave Rin, he then cuts class in order to go after her, with his classmate Lemon not far behind. Things later take an odd turn when an old woman confronts Rin and hands him a pouch, containing a small sphere of power, one that determines the identity of one awakened to the powers of the Aquarian Age.

Even stranger is when the train suddenly takes Rin back a century--1900 AD. As the story unfolds, the truth of the hidden three-way war between the three factions Darklore, WIZ-DOM, and Arayashiki are revealed to Rin, and the importance of the sphere of power becomes apparent, as it awakens the different representatives of this factional battle. However, things are about to take a new turn with the arrival of the first Eraser. And even as Rin proceeds to awaken members of Arayashiki and Darklore, Lemon's jealousy builds, a feeling the Erasers are only to happy to exploit.

The Memory of Wings Volume 2
Things take a turn for the worse as Lemon is taken in and Awakened by the Erasers. Rin and Sarashina attempt to save Lemon, but fail. Some of the Erasers' plans come to light in the darkness, leaving all to ponder the impact it will have in the generations to come. In the process, the truth about Sarashina's past comes to fore, and this brings her  to doubt her cause--should she seek to protect all those she has come to know and love in this world, or should she return to who and what she really is...an Eraser?

The final battle decides the truth, and the futures of Rin, Sarashina, and Lemon lie in the balance. Not only is 1900 the turn of the century, but it is the first shot in the Aquarian Age. Lives and histories are affected, and the origin of the Evolutionary Generation Organization is revealed at last!

The Geneaology of a Star One-Shot
Taking place long after the events in "The Memory of Wings" and "Sign For Evolution". The older Sarashina has finally died, and at her funeral two old flames are reunited. After so long, a grown-up Rin once again meets with Lemon. But things are not be joyous, as another dark cloud begins to cast its spell on the Aquarian Age. Three holy weapons exist, which hold the key to making one the most powerful Mindbreaker of them all. Two have already been taken, and the third is passed on into Rin's safekeeping. But is he strong enough to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands? Rin may have to deal with one of the most devious Mindbreakers of them all, and even with Lemon and a number of other factions available to help him, can he win?
CHARACTERS:
MINDBREAKERS
Rin (Family Name Pending)
Rin first appears in "The Memory of Wings" as a 13-year old boy whom, at first, seems drawn into the Aquarian Age by sheer chance. Later, however, it becomes clear that he plays a pivotal role in the story, as a mindbreaker, albeit a young one. With the power of a small stone, Rin awakens the abilities hidden by various members of the three factions, and unknowingly paves the way for the future.

Rin is a stereotypical 13-year old at the outset, hotheaded, working on pure impulse and always running off half-cocked. (In other words, your stereotypical shounen manga boy hero) It isn't until later when his friend Lemon becomes involved that he realizes the true gravity of the situation.

Years later, Rin is once again the hero in the manga "Geneaology of a Star". Rin returns at age 17, matured somewhat. Still hotheaded, he nonetheless carries more responsibility and maturity in the latter series. He is also still haunted by the memory of Sarashina, which may be the reason for his current less than enthusiastic outlook on life. Could his childhood relationship with Lemon be the element to finally snap him out of it?

Rin could quite possibly be one of the most powerful Mindbreakers in the Aquarian Age. In the "Geneaology" manga, he comes into posession of a powerful sword (a crafted Masamune, no less). He later gives it up, but finds the power to defeat another Mindbreaker later on. He can focus the energies of different faction membersinto himself, though his method of combat is primarily the use of a Bokken (wooden kendo stick) or sword.

ARAYASHIKI
(Name Unknown) (Wolf-Spirit Mistress)
The first girl whom Rin encounters and "Awakens" in his encounters in "The Memory of Wings". She starts off as a waitress in a restaurant Rin, Sarashina, and Lemon enter (and apparently not by chance). She is a fairly emotional girl, prone to extreme outbursts of emotion (if she's not crying her heart out, she's probably being quite overenthusiastic about her duties). Her ability is to control ghost foxes or Inugami.

WIZ-DOM
Lemon Yamamoto (Magical Girl)
At 13, Lemon is introduced in the manga as one of Rin's classmates and childhood friend. Her penchant of mischief is only matched by how attached she is to Rin, and how jealous she gets (everytime Rin is with a girl she can be anywhere from humorously suspicious to angsty jealousy). It's in this series that she becomes awakened to being a member of Wiz-Dom by the Erasers. Personality-wise, she is quite similar to her TV persona, but admittedly with far less malice and just a bit more depth.
Like Rin, Lemon in "Geneaology of a Star" has matured somewhat; this series takes place at least a year after the events of the TV series "Sign For Evolution". However, she's still quite fond of mischief.

The abilities Lemon shows in the Manga are more varied that the ice attacks seen in the TV series. In her first awakened phase, she is capable of calling down lightning and flight. She is also capable of a binding spell, which she uses to contain the Eraser--no easy task in itself. Given her performance in the manga and the TV series, it's quite possible that Lemon has far more magical tricks up her sleeve which we have not yet seen.

In both the TV and Manga series, she uses a wand for focus, but as seen in "Geneaology", it's not really essential, as she can still transform and ride a flagpole (!) to Rin's aid.

Yui Konnou (Witch Librarian)
The ubiquitous Librarian and Lemon's partner appears in "Geneaology of a Star". Her 'normal' character design in the manga appears slightly different from the TV series design. She plays a relatively minor role in the manga as well, though the conenction between her and Lemon is touched upon. (She also gets Kudos for a "Green Hornet" inspired Wiz-dom hideout set up in their Library.)

DARKLORE
Maria (Vampire Princess)
Goth, mysterious, and adorable, Maria at first glance seems like a sweet, almost dolled-up young girl of the aristocracy. However, thet's a mere front for her true identity as the Darklore Princess (Later Queen) of Vampires. It's only good timing and luck that Rin narrowly missed becoming another bite to eat.

Maria initially plays the role of sweet, almost doll-like child to the hilt, but soon reveals her true nature to Rin. After Rin saves her, she becomes his link to the Darklore faction. Maria's real personality is quite sassy, and occasionally sarcastic in tone.

A vampire, Maria's abilities include the control of spirit bats, and physical attacks that include claws and high agility. Also of note is that she is virtually immortal; Maria hasn't aged a day in the hundred years between "Wings" and "Geneaology".

E.G.O.
Sarashina (?)
Sarashina is Rin's tutor and his crush. She is also secretly from the past, observing the events of the future in order to determine her own destiny in the Aquarian Age. At first glance, she seems to be linked to the Arayashiki. In fact, there seem to be many members of that faction who know of her in the manga. But in reality, Sarashina is descended from the Erasers, and it is because of this she has insecurities about her purpose. Unknowingly however, it is because of Rin that she thus realizes her true calling--as the founder of the Evolutionary Girls Organization (Later Evolutionary Generation Organization).

Naoya Itsuki from Juvenile Orion is Sarashina's descendant. If you check the bottom panel of the page where Naoya explains his history, you can see Sarashina's silhouette.

ERASER
(Name Unknown) (Eraser?)
The one Eraser seen in the series has a strong link with Sarashina, and gives us some insights on the power they have over lesser beings. Lemon's Wiz-Dom nature was first awakened by the Erasers, and the first hints at the scope of the mysterious aliens is revealed.
