This is the first game for both teams in the Final Four. Team Kainan tries to extend its 16 years winning streak to 17 while team Shohoku makes its first ever appearance in the Final Four.

The game begins in a tense and exciting manner. Right after the jump ball, Rukawa's dunk is blocked by Maki. The ball then eventually goes into Takasago's hand but his shot is blocked by Akagi. It is a close game until team Kainan makes a substiution and replaces Jin with Miyamasu to guard Sakuragi. Sakuragi looks down on Miyamaso and loses his concentration for the game. On the other hand, the excellent 3-point shot from Miyamaso allows team Kainan to lead 15 points when Akagi twists his ankle. At this time, Rukawa picks up the scoring role for the team and scores 25 points to tie the game in the first half.

In the second half, Akagi returns and scores a rebound immediately. This allows team Shohoku to take the first lead in the game. However, Maki proves himself to be the no.1 player in Kanagawa and answers back with 8 points in a row. Together with the terrific 3-point shot from Jin, team Kainan leads by 10 points with 10 minutes left. Then, Anzai makes a tactic change and uses Sakuragi to guard Jin and others to guard Maki. This change is a successful one and team Shohoku cuts the deficit to only 4 point with 1 minute left. With 0:19 left, Sakuragi is able to dunk and get a foul from Maki to cut the lead to 2 point. Sakuragi miss the free throw but Akagi is able to get the rebound and gives it to Mitsui. Mitsui tries to win the game with a 3-point attempt but misses. However, Sakuragi gets the rebound with 6 second left. Then, he tries to pass the ball to Akagi. Indeed, he gives it to Takasago and the game ends in this dramatic way
