Introduction:

More than just sidekicks, anime animals are companions and confidantes to their human (and alien) friends; they embody the brighter side of anime: sometimes noble and bright, oftentimes just plain silly and fun.

Within the adventures that they are an integral part of, they impart wisdom and guidance, acting as mentors to their human counterparts or as comic relief for the audience.

Gathered here are many of anime's adored animal friends, some who may be well-known to you, and others you may have yet to meet.

Here at The Anime Animal Preserve, we are dedicated to providing a safe home for all anime animals, shapechangers, monsters, and robots--all are welcome here. Inquiries into adoptions must be made to the animals themselves, as most of them can talk, and they may have a conflicting opinion regarding the matter!

If you know of any anime animals who deserve a caring home here at the Preserve, please contact us via email; new additions are welcome--please include links for verification of images, names, and information detailing the show they are a cast member of.

• July 18, 1997 ~ The kitten from Dirty Pair was identified as young Muhgi by Erik Shultz.
• July 19, 1997 ~ The cabbit Ken-ohki from Tenchi Muyo, is now at the Preserve.
• July 30, 1997 ~ Iggy from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, is now at the Preserve (at the suggestion of Jay Fubler Harvey).
• August 3, 1997 ~ The werewolf Riiya from Akazukin Chacha, is now at the Preserve.
• March 13, 1998 ~ The penguin Pen Pen from Neon Genesis Evangelion is now at the Preserve--a glaring error of ours!--brought to our attention by Akio Nagatomi.
• March 13, 1998 ~ The lion Kimba from Kimba the White Lion (Jungle Emperor), is now at the Preserve, at the request and kind reminder of Nicky Guthrie.
• March 13, 1998 ~ The mouse Topo Gigio from Topo Gigio, is now at the Preserve.
• March 13, 1998 ~ The ferret Japoro from Shamanic Princess, is now at the Preserve. Note: Creatures such as Japoro--who happens to be a ferret--will not be placed in an individual species category until there are at least more than two of such kind at the Preserve.
• March 13, 1998 ~ The stray dog Herb from Nurse Angel Ririka, is now at the Preserve.
• March 18, 1998 ~ The cat Michael from What's Michael?, is now at the Preserve.
• March 18, 1998 ~ The raven Obo from Hamelin The Violin Player, is now at the Preserve.
• March 18, 1998 ~ The dog Buihatch from Cyber Formula, is now at the Preserve.
• March 18, 1998 ~ Gipple from Mahojin Guru Guru, is now at the Preserve.
• March 18, 1998 ~ The dog Hikari from Magic Knight Rayearth, is now at the Preserve.
• March 18, 1998 ~ Niruru from Taruruuto-kun, is now at the Preserve.
• March 18, 1998 ~ The dog Shiro from Crayon Shin-chan, is now at the Preserve.
• March 18, 1998 ~ Puu from Yuu Yuu Hakusho, is now at the Preserve.
• May 22, 1998 ~ Chim Chim from Speed Racer, is now at the Preserve.
