CHARACTER INFORMATION:
By day, Darien is just a normal college student. But when duty calls, Darien helps fight evil as the romantic Tuxedo Mask.
Darien himself is at best a minor character, until Serena finds out that he is Tuxedo Mask. Tuxedo Mask is an ally to the Sailor Scouts, but he has his own interests to worry about. Darien is an independant college boy (that explains the age difference), for whom some of the Sailor Scouts eventually get crushes upon, especially Sailor Moon.
At first, the relationship between Darien and Serena was quite unpleasing, especially for Serena (in reference to her given nickname). Its only when Serena discovers that Darien is Tuxedo Mask, and likewise that Darien discovers that Serena is Sailor Moon, that the relationship takes a total U-turn.
Prince Darien originates from Earth. He was to marry Princess Serena. However, evil forces arose from the Earth to lay claim on the universe. In an attempt to defend his bride-to-be's kingdom, he perished. His soul was sent into the future, to accompany the one who would rise again as Princess Serena.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Darian (Prince of the Earth) is destined to be with Serena (Princess of the Moon), although he somtimes doubts it.
Darian's parents died in a car accident when he was little.
Rini is the daughter of Princess Serena and of Prince Darien in the future Tokyo, called Crystal Tokyo.
His name as a prince is originally Endymion; this is taken from mythology, where Selene loved Endymion. It was different from his regular name, Mamoru. Changing both to Darian not only re- moves the reference, but causes two problems: First, when he's under the control of the Negaverse, Serena asks him to remember the name Darian--but he's calling himself Prince Darian at the time! Second, Rini knows that her parents in the 30th century are Serena and Darian and manages not to figure out that the Serena and Darian of the 20th century are the same people (because the names weren't _really_ the same in the original).
In Sailor Moon R (episodes 43 - 53 (49 - 59)) the Moonlight Knight appears. The silver crystal tried to seal the memory of Prince Darian who regenerated after episode 40 (46). But his feelings for trying to protect Princess Serena were too strong. So the silver crystal separated those feelings from Prince Darian and created the Moonlight Knight. In episode 53 (59), when Darian no longer has the energy to keep the Moonlight Knight and himself going, the Moonlight Knight re-joins with Darian, and Darian gets his memory back.
Moonlight Knight uses a sword, but Tuxedo Mask doesn't have a sword, he uses his cane as a weapon instead. Prince Darian also seems to use a sword as his weapon, he had a sword when he was protecting Princess Serena from the Negaverse during the attack on the moon.
Darian is already wearing the tuxedo when he transforms into Tuxedo Mask, he just throws his hat and then catches it. The Moonlight Knight is always the Moonlight Knight, no transformation is needed.
