Sweet and Sour Meatballs

I use a small ice cream scoop to make meatballs.
It is also useful for equally dividing cookie dough,
muffin batter (medium scoop), and such.

4 Servings

1 lb. ... ground beef
3 oz. ... bamboo shoots, chopped
1 ... egg
1 teaspoon ... salt
1 teaspoon ... soy sauce
2 teaspoons ... sake or dry sherry
3 tablespoons ... potato starch or corn starch
3 tablespoons ... water

1 tablespoon ... ketchup
3 tablespoons ... sugar
4 tablespoons ... rice or white vinegar
1 teaspoon ... salt
6 tablespoons ... water
1 tablespoon ... potato or corn starch, dissolved in 2
tablespoons of water

1. In a large bowl, place first 9 ingredients and mix well.

2. In a large skillet, over medium heat, in hot oil, cook meat
balls, a few at a time, turning occasionally, until cooked
through. Set aside.

3. In a medium saucepan, over high heat, cook ketchup,
sugar, vinegar, salt and 6 tablespoons of water until boild,
stir in potato starch and water mixture.

4. When the sauce is thickened, add meatballs.
