Charles F. Kettering once stated "Modern Psychology teaches that experience is not merely the best teacher, but the only possible teacher...". This statement sums up why he decided to join with Edward Deeds and become an inventor. They worked together to invent several things in Deeds Barn.

One of these fantastic inventions was the electric cash register. Kettering did this while working for the National Cash Register Company (NCR) in Dayton, Ohio. Edward Deeds and Kettering worked in Deeds Barn on an important invention that revolutionized the automobile industry. The electric auto ignition and self-starter were these revolutionary inventions. These inventions first appeared in the 1912 Cadillac.
