Philippine History
There are many excellent books that delve into the history of the 7000+ islands known as the Republic of the Philippines (Islands). It is through many of these books that the Web Author became facinated with the land, language,
people and fertile past of this country.
In addition to many books on the topic, the Internet, itself, is an excellent source of information. At times, some of these sites even offer 'late breaking' news stories that add to the history of these lands.
Rather than re-create an electronic source on Philippine history, we offer, what we believe, are a rich variety of links to the best sites containing historically significant information about the Philippines, its origins and significant events.
Before exploring these links, may we recommend that you read three documents included on this site --
- An abbreviated look at Philippine History
These pages are simply a timeline, in narrative format, of accepted events in Philippine History. Although its accuracy is not 100% assured, the dates and events have been repeatedly found in multiple sources, thus their addition to the
paper.
This is a good start for those who what to find out about the general history of the Philippines in a short time.
- Interpreting history - a realistic view
Any history is a collective work, and as such, needs to be read and studied with this fact in mind. Before delving into any history, one should keep an open mind and always question the validity of its source. This paper discusses the
concept of history as a continuing study. It attempts to demonstrate how history, although viable, can be mis-represented or mis-interpreted.
- Site Selection Background
Each site listed here has been selected based on a specific criteria. This paper explains the criteria and requests information on any other sites that you believe should be included on this list.
