This is the text from a book by, Murat Halstead, war correspondent and historian of the the Philippines (1898). It discusses the period right after the take over of the Philippines by the Americans, from the Spanish.

Another great link regarding the work of Murat Halstead, concerns the actual Specification of Grievances of the Filipinos to both Spain and the United States on the Treaty of Paris. It discusses points to the refusal of both Spain and the US to honor the freedom of the Philippines as declared in 1898 by General Aguinaldo at his home in Cavite. The reference address is:
