Character Info

Here are the descriptions of some of the major characters in Cyber Formula (TV) and Cyber Formula Double One.

Cyber Formula Racers

Hayato Kazami

Aged 14 in the TV series, he is one of the youngest drivers in the GPX Cyber Formula history. He is also the youngest driver to become a world champion. He belongs to Sugo Asurada team, the driver of Asurada, a car designed by his father, and coveted by everyone. In Cyber Formula 11, with the help of Clair Fortlan, he becomes the driver of the new machine Super Asurada AKF-11. Due to a serious crash in the 12th CF World GPX with K. L. von Randoll, both of them have to withdraw from the champion and rest for one year. He reenters in the 13th CF World GPX.

Naoki Shinjyo

In the 10th CF World GPX, he and Hayato has a lot of great battles. He has been known as one of the genius drivers in Japan. In earlier years, he competed in F3 races. He likes Miki Johnouchi. He is finally crowned the world champion in the 12th CF World GPX.

Karl Lichter von Randoll

Randoll enters the scene in the middle of the 10th CF World GPX. He is another genius driver of the same age as Hayato. Being attracted to Asuka Sugo, he becomes the rival of Hayato, both in and out of circuit. He has the habit of drinking tea in the middle of a race. He withdraws from the 12th CF World GPX becuase of a bad crash with Hayato. Glayson is his servant.

Knight Shoemach/ Osamu Sugo

Always having sun-glasses on his face, Knight Shoemach discuises himself and races in the 10th and 11th CF World GPX. He withdraws from Union Savior in the 10th championship and reenters in the 11th in the team Aoi Zip Formula. His true identity is Osamu Sugo, Asuka's brother. He has the nickname, Supersonic Knight.

Bleed Kaga

In TV series, Kaga appears as a street racer racing for money in the beginning of the story. Later on, he joins the racing team Aoi Zip Formula to compete. He is a great friend of Hayato Kazami. In Cyber Formula 11, he is an Indy driver, and he acts as the advisor for Hayato.

Jackie Gudelian

Jackie's the pride and joy of the US. He is from Texas, he always carries his version of "The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders" wherever he goes. Gudelian has a "Super License".

Franz Heinel

Gudelian's #1 rival. The two of them are always at each other's throats, when they're racing, and even when they're not (See episode 8). Heinel has a "Super License" in the TV series while in Cyber Formula 11 he is the director of Sturozech Project. Yes! It's Sturozech Project! The team with Jackie Gudelian!

Edelie Bootsvorz

In the TV series, Bootsvorz is a kind of "Cyborg Mercenary". The only reason he's been racing up to now is to get Asurada for his boss, who's the usual shifty-type with shades. Little is known about Bootsvorz, which makes him a perfect enemy. In earlier years, he was a F1 driver. Osamu Sugo was his rival. Bootsvorz had an accident and lost his left eye and left hand. (He has a false left hand now.)

Johji Ohtomo

In TV series, Johji and Hayato met by accident (actually, it was Buihatch's fault), and became friends. Kurumada kanto believes it breaks the laws of competitive sport, but Hayato doesn't care. Johji's helped him out of tough spots more than once. He also doesn't believe that winning a race is the most important thing, but rather, how well you do during the race. Because of a serious crash in the 10th CF world GPX, Johji is unable to race in the 11th CF World GPX. He appears as a reporter.

Akira Hiyoshi

Originally belonging to Sugo Asurada, he is forced to leave the team because Hayato's retina and voice print have been recorded onto Asurada's memory and cannot be overwritten or erased for another driver. So Hiyoshi has to given up his position in the team to Hayato. In CF11, Hiyoshi reenters to the circuit and joins A.G.S.

Pitalia Lope

Being one of the greatest drivers in the earlier CF world GPX, Lope's position has been gradually replaced by the younger generation. In the 11th CF World GPX, he retires from racing and becomes the team advisor of A.G.S.

Other characters

Asuka Sugo

Aged 16, she is the daughter of the owner of Sugo team. She takes care of the food, the cleaning, and track timing and is usually there for moral support. She is a long time friend of Hayato's. Although she is two years older than Hayato and a lot of times acts like an elder sister to him, there seems to be a special relationship between them, very close to engagement (Cyber Formula Zero - OAV). Osamu Sugo is her brother.

Miki Johnouchi

She is the Chief Mechanist of the Sugo team. She makes sure that Asurada is running at optimum condition at all times. At the end of the TV series, Miki gives her hat to Shinjyo and he gives her his helmet in return. They like each other.
Clair Fortlan

She is introduced to Sugo Asurada in the 11th CF World GPX by Osamu Sugo as the new machine designer. She also has the design of Asurada with Hayato's father -- Hiroyuki Kazami.

Kyoko Aoi

She is the owner of Aoi Formula and Aoi Zip Formula. She is very concerned about winning the championship and therefore is very willing to spend a lot of money to attract top drivers to join her team. Shinjyo is her longtime driver, but in the 10th CF World GPX, she buys in Bleed Kaga, and Knight Shoemach in the 11th.

Tetuichiro Kurumada

He is the "acting manager" of the Sugo team. He makes sure everything is as it should be, and is in direct contact with the President of Sugo Corporation. Kurumada kanto is very strict, although he means well. He is the friend of Hayato's father and Asuka's father.

Glayson

Glayson has been Randoll's housekeeper for many years, very loyal to him, and is always at attention. Maybe he knows Randoll even more than his own father knows him.

Ryohei Sumi

Age 15, he is Miki's eager and willing assistant. He gets very emotional whenever something happens to Asurada. He is high-strung, and although shorter than Hayato, is technically older. Ryoohei can sometimes be more trouble than help. He had wanted to be a racer, but his blood is of a special type and is hard to get enough to do transfusion in case of emergency. So he ended up being a mechanist.

Shinsuke Maki

As the Sugo computer machanist, Maki makes sure Asurada's programs are running error-free. He is the only one capable of altering Asurada's passwords to get Hayato out of Asurada's memory, although his attempts failed. He has a pleasant personality, but does not play sports too well.

Makoto Katagiri

Since last half of the 10th C.F.G.P.X., Katagiri has been the chief machanist of Shinjyo's machine. He is Shinjyo's partner as well as a friend.

Hiroyuki Kazami

Hiroyuki Kazami is Hayato Kazami's father. He is also the designer of Asurada. This cyber system of Asurada is coveted by a lot of people and he eventually was killed by Missing Link's Smith.

Kohjiro Sugo

He is the owner of Sugo Asurada team and the father of Asuka. He is also the friend of Hayato's father -- Hiroyuki Kazami and team director Tetuichiro Kurumada.

Buihatch or V8

It's Asuka's pet, a black and white dog, possibly of German Shepard descent. Buihatch, like Ryohei, is also more trouble than he's worth.
