after the holocaust of
World War III. The motorcycle gang of "healthy,
juvenile delinquents" race
through the city led by Kaneda.
An unusual looking boy suddenly appears in
front of them and

paranormal powers. As a
result, Tetsuo is institutionalized in a
military hospital. During his
hospitalization, the military Colonel

hidden power and transfer him into a
laboratory to perform "power
awakening experiments".
Due to the excessive psionic awakening experiments,
Tetsuo acquires
unlimited power and loses all self-control.
Now, it's up to a small band of heroic individuals to save the
earth from total anihilation.
Jonathann: OK, Yari and I saw Akira, often labeled as the must see anime film for beginers. In fact, it's Akira's popularity with new anime fans that made us want to review it so badly. So... what did you think Yari?
Yari: I did NOT enjoy this movie.
Jonathan: Yeah. I'd seen this before, and hated it. Watching it again was almost physically painful. To a limited extent I can understand the appeal of movies like Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll, films which put style over substance, but Akira takes this to an extreme...and the style just isn't there.
Yari: I felt that the music was unremarkable. It certainly wasn't enough to make this movie worth watching.
Jonathan: I agree. Was this worth watching? I'd say no!
Yari: Yes, but don't expect very much.
Jonathan: If you're new to anime, and you want to check out the genre, you'd be best advised to stay away from Akira. It's rather unforetunate that this is the one anime film every video store seems to carry.
Jonathan-*--1!!!! Stay away!!!
