Kokuyou was very wild in the past(I won't say what), not only rebellious but also likes to do as one please. However, after meeting and falling in love with Hisui, Kokuyou changed a lot. Now Kokuyou eats food which humans eat(rice, fish, vegetables, etc.) instead of souls after being persuaded by Hisui to give up the old ways.
