This is a movie dating back to 1984, and the animation was totally revamped in this edition. If you are a Macross fan, you must see this fine piece of animation...

This story doesn't take place on the normal Macross Universe. You cannot fit the events that happen here in the original Series. They are just plain contradictory. In my opinion this story's better, but it's up to you.
When it was launched back then, there was no official position as to what universe owned the story, but now, it belongs to ours as a movie!
In Macross 7, you can see persons in the cartoon seeing the movie... They made a movie to remember the great battle that happened during the original series.
The plot basically remains the same with a few twists. The main problem is still Minmei-Misa-Hikaru.
The designs have been changed, specially all the battlecruisers. The SDF-1 has space stations docked instead of battleships
You can still get this movie en Laser Disc and VHS format in its original form in Japan.
There was also a version translated in English called the Clash of the Bionoids. But this version was not made with the original ROBOTECH translating cast. So... you are out of luck.
