The series that started it all...

This series begins with the fall of an alien spaceship in 1999. The ship crashed in a southern Pacific island.

First codenamed ASS (Alien Star Ship), the ship forced the Earth to make an all country alliance. This was because the technology found on board was centuries ahead in comparison with Earth's cutting edge technology. The fear of an alien invasion made world's superpowers unite to research the ship and gather resources. This was an effort without presedence, and by the year 2009, the ship was completed, but not tested...

The ship was named SDF-1 (Super Dimensional Fortress - 1), and on the day of its maiden flight alien forces appeared...

Some technology rescued from the ship helped to build some fighter plane designs, namely the VF1-S and some ground battle units, like the Gladiator or the Monster Destroid.

Earth's forces confronted the aliens. However, the SDF-1 was not tested and its crew was inexperienced. Captain Gloval was in command and ordered a fold to avoid being captured. A miscalculation sent the ship away from its intended target: the dark side of the moon.

The ship landed on Pluto and its fold navigation system was missing. Macross island had also been accidentally transported. Its population was rescued and its resources salvaged. A city was built inside the ship. The trip home was long since it was made using conventional fusion-powered rockets. During the flight home, additional research could be made, new Valkyrie designs were built. Also, new fighter pilots were recruited and trained.

The aliens are the Zentraedi, a giant race of human-resemblance beings. Their mission was to exterminate a race called the patrollers. When they found the patroller ship on Earth, they proceeded according to their orders. However, they have a prime command that is not to interfere with micronian life. When they found out micronian life was invloved, the conlicting orders split the Zentraedi into two groups: one wished to destroy the SDF-1, and the other wanted avoid any contact with micronian life.

During the SDF-1's flight home both sides struggled to cotrol the other. Regretably,when the SDF-1 returned home the side that wanted to destroy the SDF-1 won. And since some zentraedi became curious of human culture, they thought that human contact was deadly. Dolza, the Zentraedi commander, ordered an all out attack against the Earth.

The Earth wasn't prepared for such firepower. Gral. Hayase promoted the construction of a cannon during the reconstruction of the SDF-1. Five were built up to this time. They were in:

1. Alaska UN Base
2. Australian Autonomous Region
3. Victoria Autonomous Region (Africa)
4. Brazilian Autonomous Region
5. Lunar North Polar region, near the SDF-2 construction site (Apollo Lunar Base)

Based on thermonuclear explosive nuclear reaction, the cannon also fired with the aid of the Earth's own gravitational field. They measure 1 km from the surface to the center of the Earth and are hidden underground.

Only two survived the Zentraedi attack, the one on Alaska Base and the one on the moon. Only the Alaskan cannon fired. The lunar cannon didn't fire to not give away location of the SDF-2. The SDF-2 was at 75% completion and if the SDF-1 didn't survive the attack it would be Earth's last hope.

The firing reduced the Zentraedi Fleet, but couldn't wipe it out. The alaskan base was destroyed and Misa Hayase is the only known survivor.

The SDF-1 attepts a counterstrike with a song transmission in all frequencies. In theory, the Zentraedi wouldn't know how to react to culture since they hadn't seen one.

The SDF-1 annihilates Dolza and its fleet. This is the end of the Zentraedi-Human interstellar War with more than 5,000,000,000 Human and Zentraedi casualties.
