Brief Background

    
Although 糂紈地  Andy Lau Tak-Wah is now a very famous actor and singer 
around Asia, he was born to a poor family in rural town Taipo in New 
Territories, Hong Kong.  For two years, 10-year old Andy had to wake up early 
at 3 am to make eight trips everyday to fetch water for his family.  It was 
not until 1980 that Andy sign up for TVB's 10th Acting Academy and became an 
actor.  He also started his singing career in 1985.
    






Hobbies

    One of Andy's hobbies is collecting antique jeans from the '50s and '60s.  
He has more than 30 pairs.  He likes them because back then the emphasis was more 
on comfort than aesthetics.  He also collects antique watches because they have 
intricate designs, character, and history.  His most expensive watch he bought was 
in China over 10 years ago for $8,000 HK dollars.  The watch is said to be worth 
more than $200,000 HK dollars.  In addition, Andy likes listening to everything 
from country music to jazz.  However, his collection of 10 Elvis CDs is his most 
treasured possession since he envies Elvis' talent, image, and the era he lived in.  
Furthermore, Andy is also a big fan of the Japan manga, "Ultraman."  He has a 
collection of Ultraman items.
    





Love Life
    
Andy dated Taiwanese actress 玕猋 (Yu Ke-Xin) for a few years.  However, they
broke up in 1986 due to work committments.  It is the only love relationship
Andy openly admitted to.  He said he would not openly admit his relationships
anymore because there is a lot pressure from the media.  There has been
rumors that he secretly married Malaysian Χ腞闳 (Zhu Li-Qian) in Vancouver in 
1993.  However, Andy denied it.  Other stars that Andy had been rumored 
in the past were Cherie Chung, Rosamund Kwan, Michelle Reis, and a 
Japanese singer.
    





What He Would Be If Could Live Life Again...
    
In an interview, Andy stated he would like to be a very succesful 
athlete.  It doesn't matter which sport it is.  He states that he plays many 
sports and games but does not excel in any of them.  If he was an athlete, it would 
allow him to spend more time making sure he is in good physical shape since staying
healthy is his priority these days.
