Professional Information


I am a doctoral candidate at the Geelong campus of Deakin University, Victoria, Australia. My research is on images of old age in contemporary Japan.

In 1987 I won a Mombusho (Ministry of Education) research scholarship to research cultural aspects of dementia in Japan. I ended up staying to complete a M.A. and started work on the current Ph.D.

I completed my Honours degree at The Flinders University of South Australia in 1986 and worked in community health area as a consultant, policy analyst and researcher before taking up the Japanese scholarship.

I have ongoing interests in health, ageing and Japanese studies.
