Bacardi on the Rocks
Anya Amasova's drink of choice. (TSWLM)
Baccarat
Card game favoured around the world by scheming villains and secret agents. Also known as chemin de fer. (TB, OHMSS, FYEO, GE)
Backgammon
Board game played by Kamal Khan - to ensure he wins, he always has a pair of loaded dice to hand. (OP)
Back Projection
A favourite special effect in James Bond films, despite the fact that these days it fools absolutely no-one. It is this effect that, for example, saw Bond flying through green skies in both FYEO and OP, as well as dangling over the green waters beneath the Golden Gate Bridge in AVTAK! By GE, digital compositing technology had come along, so hopefully the days of fuzzy green backgrounds are gone forever.
Baines
MI6 agent killed on the island of San Monique in a voodoo ritual which culminats in him being bitten by a poisonous snake. Bond was a friend of Baines as they shared the same bootmaker. (LALD)
Baguette
What Q eats for lunch. (GE)
Balloon, Hot Air
Silent, if not especially subtle, mode of transport used by Q to bring Bond to the Monsoon Palace as Octopussy's girls stormed it. The huge Union Jack on the side of the balloon was a slight giveaway as to who was in the basket! TV cameras mounted on the rigging can transmit pictures to Bond's watch, which lead him to Octopussy. Q also takes out one of Kamal Khan's guards by landing on him, though this was probably an accident. (OP)
Balloon, Weather
A big red helium balloon that Bond releases from Blofeld's oil rig as a signal for American forces to attack. (DAF)
Bambi
Donna Garrett)
One of the two acrobatic guards of Willard Whyte while he is held prisoner at his summer house. Bambi's speciality is crushing interlopers between her powerful thighs. Together with Thumper, she treats Bond to a painful display of girl power before trying to drown him in the swimming pool. In the water, though, Bond's extra height lets him turn the tables and give Whyte's 'bunnies' a ducking. (DAF)
Bananas, Heroin-Flavoured
Fruit sold by Amarez to finance his revolutionary activities. (GF)
Banco de Isthmus
The largest bank in Isthmus City, used (and conveniently owned) by Sanchez as a centre for money laundering. The money is then exchanged with the US Federal Reserve, giving Sanchez's empire legitimate credit. (LTK)
Bank of England
The central bank of Great Britain, and the country's repository for gold bullion. Alec Trevelyan planned to raid the bank by computer, before wiping out all evidence of the crime with a blast from the Goldeneye satellite. (GF, GE)
Barrelhead Bar
A sleazy waterfront watering hole in Bimini, where Bond first meets Pam Bouvier. Soon afterwards, Dario's arrival prompts a huge barfight involving guns, pool cues, whiskey bottles, chairs and large stuffed fish. The manager is probably not pleased at having a huge hole blasted in the wall of his bar so that Bond and Pam can escape, never mind the other damage. (LTK)
Bartlett, Ruby
(Angela Scoular)
A patient at Piz Gloria, from Morecombe in England. She is there ostensibly to be treated for an allergy to chicken; though she doesn't know it, she is part of Blofeld's plan to blackmail the world's governments with agricultural sterility. She invites Bond (posing as Sir Hilary Bray) to her room by writing its number in lipstick on his thigh, under his kilt - when Bond's expression prompts Irma Bunt to ask how he feels, his reply is "Just a slight stiffness coming on". It is after paying a discreet visit to Ruby that Bond first learns about Blofeld's brainwashing procedure, when he hears a hypnosis tape played in her room. (OHMSS)
Base 1
Radio callsign for Tiger Tanaka's operations HQ while Bond is flying above the island of Matsu in Little Nellie. (YOLT)
Bathosub
A small one-man submersible that Blofeld intended to be his emergency escape route from his oil rig. Things go badly wrong for him when Bond takes control of the crane meant to lower it into the water, then uses the bathosub as a demolition ball to destroy the control centre. (DAF)
Bauxite
Mineral mined at Crab Key, the mine acting as a cover for Dr No's real activities. (DN)
BA 128
Jaws's British Airways flight to Rio de Janiero, boarding at gate seven. (MR)
Beach Buggy
Normally associated with Californian surfers, Locque and his men put these vehicles to more deadly use by attacking Bond and Lisl Von Schlaff on the beach by her house. Bond also narrowly misses crashing head-on into one as he chases May Day through Paris. (FYEO, AVTAK)
Beatles, The
Popular beat combo of the 1960s, whom Bond dislikes. (GF)
Bechmann, Dr
(Cyril Shaps)
A scientist who co-developed Stromberg's submarine tracking system with Professor Markovitz. Neither man lives to enjoy the ten million dollars Stromberg has promised them, as he blows up their helicopter by remote control after they leave Atlantis. (TSWLM)
Bed of Nails
A resting place of an Indian fakir, used - after the occupant had vacated his bed - to impale one of Kamal Khan's men. (OP)
Bedroom Assassin
(David Toguri)
A SPECTRE agent who infiltrates Tanaka's ninja training school and attempts to kill Bond by dripping poison down a thread and onto his lips as he sleeps. However, it is Aki who takes the poison - her desperate attempts to breathe wake up Bond, who spots the assassin lurking in the roof beams overhead and blows him away with a shot from his Walther. (YOLT)
Belly Dancers
Bond has encountered several of these on his travels, though only one has directly concerned his mission. That hasn't stopped him from enjoying the experiences. (FRWL, TMWTGG)
Bell, Mrs
(Ruth Kempf)
A middle-aged lady who expected a flying lesson from Mr Bleeker, but ends up with a more intense ground-based experience with Bond, during which the wings of her plane are torn off! (LALD)
Belt, Leather
A trouser-supporting device, size 34, which after Q got to work on it could also support the weight of a grown man - it fires a 75 foot rappelling cord from the buckle. Bond uses it to escape from the military archives in St Petersburg. (GE)
Beluga Caviare
One of Bond's favourite expensive delicacies, best enjoyed with a Dom Perignon '55, or as a post-fight snack. (TB, OHMSS)
Benson, Captain
(George Baker)
A senior naval officer present at Bond's briefing at Faslaine on the HMS Ranger crisis. (TSWLM)
Bentley
Make of British luxury car, a more sporty companion to Rolls-Royce. Bond used one as part of his equipment, until it was replaced by an Aston Martin DB5. This Bentley, a green 4.5 litre, was fitted with a very early carphone. (FRWL, GF)
Benz, Commisar
(Peter Bayliss)
One of Kovlovski's agents in Turkey. He spots Tatiana Romanova boarding a train with Bond after they steal the Lektor and boards it, but is prevented from acting when Kerim Bey takes him prisoner. However, both he and Benz are then killed by Red Grant. (FRWL)
Beretta .25
Bond's favoured sidearm until it is (forcibly) replaced by the Walther PPK on M's orders. The Beretta is dismissed by the MI6 armourer, Major Boothroyd, as being suitable for a "lady's handbag". (DN)
Berlin Wall, The
The pre-unification symbol of the East-West divide in Europe, separating West and East Berlin. (OP)
Berngarden
A town in the Austrian Alps where the paths of Bond and Sergei Varzov cross, with fatal consequences for the latter. Bond's purchase of a lighter in the town led to Anya Amasova discovering that it was 007 who was responsible for the death of her lover. (TSWLM)
Bey, Kerim
(Pedro Armendariz)
Head of Station T in Istanbul, and one-time circus strongman, Bey is MI6's top man in the Near East. He is also as much of a charmer and womaniser as Bond himself. He has a unique method of ensuring the loyalty of all his most trusted operatives - they are all members of his large family!
Bey takes a shot in his right arm when Krilencu and his Bulgar killers attack the gypsy encampment where he and Bond are staying. Nevertheless, he still later kills Krilencu (using Bond's shoulder as a rest for his rifle) and helps Bond to steal the Lektor coding machine by detonating a bomb under the Russian consulate. He gets Bond and Tatiana Romanova to what he thinks is safety on a train, but while guarding KGB agent Benz, he is killed by Red Grant, who arranges things to make it appear that the two men killed each other. (FRWL)
Bible
The holy book of Christianity. A large leather-bound copy (with a hollowed-out centre) is used by Mrs Whistler to smuggle diamonds. (DAF)
Big Ben
Frequently misidentified symbol of Britain (Big Ben is a bell, not the actual clock). To signal that the government had agreed to SPECTRE's demands, Big Ben was made to ring seven times at six o'clock one evening. (TB)
Big Giant Heads
A popular piece of fancy dress at the carnival in Rio de Janiero. Jaws uses a crudely-made giant clown's head as a disguise while he follows Bond and Manuela. (MR)
Big, Mr
(Yaphet Kotto)
A feared black American gangster, whom Strutter describes as having the 'black concession' on every major field of organised crime. He at first seems to have a connection with Dr Kananga, Prime Minister of San Monique - it transpires that he is Dr Kananga, wearing an odd-looking latex mask and afro wig! (LALD)
Bill
An employee of Ocean Exotica, who doesn't know any Latin. (LTK)
Billy Bob
Sheriff Pepper's brother-in-law, a Louisiana state park ranger who owns the fastest boat on the river. Unfortunately, Adam clubs him down and steals it. (LALD)
Binocu-glasses

A card game beloved of Bond. He always wins - unless he's deliberately trying to lose. (LTK)
Blackjack Flight Bravo X-Ray
Codename for the Vulcan bomber commandeered by Angelo. (TB)
Blayden
An English stately home, used as a safe house for MI6. Koskov is taken here after his 'defection', but Necros easily fights his way into the building disguised as a milkman. (TLD)
Bleauchamp Institute For Allergy Research
An apparently altruistic organisation based at Piz Gloria, on the summit of a Swiss mountain. It is actually where Blofeld is developing his crop sterility viruses. (OHMSS)
Bleeker Flying School, The
An eponymously-titled flying school based at a small airport outside New Orleans. One of its pupils is Mrs Bell. (LALD)
Bleeker, Mr
Propriator of the above. Bleeker is an experienced flying instructor and a war veteran, and less than happy about British agents demolishing his planes, something he makes clear to Felix Leiter. (LALD)
Blofeld, Ernst Stavro
(?, Anthony Dawson & Eric Pohlmann [voice], Donald Pleasance, Telly Savalas, Charles Gray, ?)
The head of SPECTRE and the villain who has caused the most trouble for Bond over the years. He has repeatedly undergone plastic surgery to change his appearance (DAF), the only distinguishing features that remain constant being his SPECTRE ring, his ever-present white cat and his penchant for 'Chairman Mao' suits.
Most of the time, Blofeld controls SPECTRE from a distance via his underlings (numbered to show their rank in the organisation), rewarding failure or treachery with death. After his first meeting with James Bond, in Japan, he takes a more active role in SPECTRE's operations, getting personally involved with the organisation's blackmail plots.
His first operation, two years after the failed attempt to start a war between America and the Soviet Union by hijacking their spacecraft, is to blackmail the governments of the world by threatening to introduce a genetically engineered virus into the nations' agricultures, causing sterility in crops and animals. The price for not releasing the virus was a pardon for his past crimes, and the title of Count de Bleauchamps - he has gone as far as to have his earlobes surgically removed to make his bid for the title more believable. For some reason he fails to recognise Bond despite his only disguise being a pair of glasses! However, a slip on Bond's part gives the game away. After Bond escapesd, Blofeld reveals a talent for skiing by leading the pursuit. When Draco's men storm Piz Gloria to rescue the captured Tracy and destroy the virus, Blofeld tries to escape using the resort's bobsleigh run. In the ensuing fight with Bond, Blofeld comes to an abrupt stop when he hits a low branch. Unfortunately for Bond he survives and, now in a neck brace, tries to gun down Bond just after his wedding. Instead, the shots hit Tracy.
Fearing assassination by Bond in revenge for the killing of Tracy, Blofeld uses several doubles to attract Bond's fire while he works on his next plan. He takes advantage of the fact that millionaire Willard Whyte is a known recluse to kidnap him and take his place, using a voice-altering device to make it seem that Whyte is still in control. With Whyte's resources at his command, Blofeld organised diamond theft on a massive scale to build a laser satellite that can destroy any target on Earth, with the intention of selling nuclear supremacy to the highest bidder. When Bond locates the real Willard Whyte, Blofeld makes his escape in drag and goes to an oil rig off Baja California, where the satellite transmitter is located. Bond works out the villain's location and goes there to sabotage the plan, sending a signal to the waiting US Marines to attack the rig. Blofeld tries to escape in his bathosub, but Bond has taken control of the crane and uses the sub to demolish the control centre for the satellite.
What happened to Blofeld after the rig was destroyed is unclear, but it is some time before he returned (in a wheelchair and sporting a neck brace) to menace Bond. He takes remote control of a helicopter Bond is riding in, and after some hair-raising aerobatics prepares to crash the chopper. Bond regains control though, and scoops up Blofeld and his wheelchair on one of the helicopter's landing skids before dumping him down a factory chimney - a rather ignominious end!
Blofeld seems to be heavily involved in the development of the Virus Omega in OHMSS, but by his next appearance he claims that science was not his strong point. He hates martial music.
NB: The reason Blofeld and SPECTRE never returned (at least in name) after DAF was due to a legal problem with Kevin McClory, producer of Thunderball and Never Say Never Again, who claimed he had exclusive rights to use Blofeld and SPECTRE in movies. Rather than go through the hassle of a court case, Eon simply (and cheekily) killed the villain off without ever mentioning him by name! (FRWL, TB, YOLT, OHMSS, DAF, FYEO)
Blofeld's Doubles
(Charles Gray, Max Latimer)
Aware that his killing of Tracy would make him Bond's number one target, Blofeld attempts to decoy 007's attentions by using plastic surgery on a number of SPECTRE agents, to turn them into his doubles. As well as facial reconstruction, the doubles also made use of an electronic 'voice box' to alter their voices. Bond kills the first by drowning him in a mud bath before surgery was started, and the second met a similar fate shortly afterwards. After this volunteers were understandably scarce, leaving Blofeld with only one doppelganger. Bond meets both in the penthouse of the Whyte House in Las Vegas - uncertain which was which, he kicks Blofeld's white cat to see which of the two it runs to, and kills him. However, Blofeld had thought ahead - the double killed by Bond had his own cat! (DAF)
Blonde Beauty
(Irka Bochenko)
A Drax employee who works at Venini Glass. She is also the woman who leads Bond to Drax's secret headquarters in the Brazilian rainforest, with the intention of luring him into a trap. (MR)
Blue
The horse that Moneypenny bets on at Ascot, which comes in second behind Zorin's steroid-injected nag Pegasus. (AVTAK)
Blue Grass Field
An airport in Kentucky, near Goldfinger's stud farm, which is the base of operations for Pussy Galore's Flying Circus. (GF)
Blue Movie
Recorded by SPECTRE agents from behind a two-way mirror, this 8mm film held a record of Bond's sexual exploits with Tatiana Romanova for the purposes of embarrassing MI6. Even Bond was impressed by it, though he still made sure to dispose of the evidence in Venice harbour. (FRWL)
Blue Ringed Octopus
Octopussy's 'pet', a member of the genus aparaclino, which lives in a tank in her floating palace. This kind of octopus produces a venom which is fatal in seconds, and as a tattoo is the symbol of an old secret order of female bandits and smugglers. Bond uses the creature to kill one of Gobinda's hired killers, smashing him head-first into the octopus's tank, where it attaches itself to his face. (OP)
Blunderbuss
A large, horn-barrelled shotgun used by Gobinda to try and kill Bond after beating his master at backgammon. (OP)
BMT 214A
Registration of Bond's now-classic Aston Martin DB5, which appears to be his own personal transport rather than an MI6 vehicle. It is still equipped with some definitely non-standard equipment, though, such as a colour fax. (GE, TND)
BMT 216A
Registration of Bond's 'company' Aston Martin DB5. (GF, TB)
BMW Z3
Bond's car for his assignment to locate the Goldeneye, a blue convertible which has been fitted out by Q Branch with Stinger missiles, all-points radar, a braking parachute and "all the usual refinements", to quote Q. Bond makes little use of any of these features, though he does warn Jack Wade not to push any of the buttons. (GE)
BOAC
Acronym for British Overseas Airways Corporation. (DN)
Boardroom
The large chamber where Drax holds his board meetings at his base in Brazil, and also, once the table and chairs retract, the blast pit for Moonraker 5. Bond and Holly Goodhead are left as prisoners here, Drax planning to incinerate them as his shuttle takes off. Bond escapes by using the explosive in his watch to blast open an air vent. (MR)
Bobsleigh
A vehicle used by Blofeld to escape the destruction of Piz Gloria; Bond pursued him in a second bob until it is destroyed by a hand grenade, after which he leaps onto Blofeld's bobsleigh for a final battle. (OHMSS)
Body Armour
One of Brad Whitaker's items of merchandise, which he routinely wears even in his own villa. The armour can withstand a hit from Bond's PPK even at close range, Whitaker dismissing Bond's weapon as a 'popgun'. (TLD)
Boeing 707
Passenger airliner used to ferry Bond to Jamaica (Pan American) and Istanbul (Pan American again). (DN, FRWL)
Boeing 747
Large jet airliner used to take Bond to New York (Pan American) (LALD). A specially-modified 747 is used to carry a Moonraker space shuttle to Britain - it is destroyed when Drax's agents hijack the shuttle in mid-flight (MR).
Boeing 767
A modern wide-bodied airliner used by British Airways to take Bond to St Petersburg. (GE)
Bolas
A traditional South American weapon consisting of three balls attached by rope, used to bring down fleeing targets. Q modifies one so that the balls explod on impact. After a successul demonstration on a dummy of a dictator, Q wants the final product ready for Army Day. Octopussy also uses a non-explosive bolas to take out one of Kamal Khan's palace guards silently. (MR, OP)
Bollinger
Champagne ordered by Bond at his San Monique hotel. Holly Goodhead has some in her hotel room, leading Bond to remark that "If it's the '69, you were expecting me". Jaws also drinks Bollinger, sharing a glass with Dolly when he utters his only line of dialogue. 007 also correctly identifies a '59 at dinner with Aubergine, and has a bottle of '88 in his Aston Martin ready to share with Caroline. (LALD, MR, AVTAK, GE)
Bollinger RD
A very expensive champagne that Bond substitutes for the original selection in Koskov's hamper from Harrods, on the grounds that the brand on the original list was 'questionable'. M does not look happy at this blatant misappropriation of taxpayers' money. Bond also orders a full case of it in Isthmus City, though on this occasion he is making use of drug money he has taken from Sanchez. (TLD, LTK)
Bombe, La
One of the courses in the meal Wint and Kidd bring to Bond and Tiffany in their liner suite. This large dessert genuinely lives up to its name - it contains an explosive device! (DAF)
Bonaparte, Napoleon
French dictator crushed by British forces at the battle of Waterloo. Brad Whitaker has a dummy of Napoleon - with Whitaker's face - in his museum. (TLD)
Bond, James
(Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan)
Our hero, and the coolest man in the world, even (just) when he's being played by Timothy Dalton.
Bond is an orphan, his parents having been killed in a climbing accident, but he overcame this tragedy and went on to Cambridge, where he earned a First in Oriental Languages (which apprently didn't include written Mandarin Chinese in the syllabus). After graduation, he joined the Royal Navy, where he rose to the rank of Commander aboard HMS Ark Royal. From there, he was recruited by MI6, reaching the rank of 00 agent and obtaining his licence to kill, and went on to save the world on a number of occasions. He has married twice; once as part of a cover for a mission, and once for love (members of the royal family attended the wedding - Bond is descended from nobility), though his wife, Tracy, was killed soon after the wedding by Blofeld - it is still a sensitive issue, even years later.
Bond is highly skilled; as well as speaking several languages (including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Greek, Czech, Afghan, Russian and Egyptian), he can also mimic voices so well you'd think he was being dubbed. His scientific skills include lepidoptery, marine, plant and molecular biology, deep-sea diving, space technology (apart from spacesuit air conditioners), nuclear devices and electronics, though computer technology seems to be something he's not that clued-up on.
Bond is unbeatable with a gun, even his comparatively low-powered Walther PPK. He is also a karate expert, and there doesn't appear to be a vehicle he can't drive, short of a space shuttle. He's equally unstoppable in bed - there are very few women who have been able to resist 007's charms, and the ones that do are almost invariably villains, and certainly doomed. Bond doesn't care much for redheads, though - he considers them bad-tempered.
His favourite drink is a vodka martini, shaken not stirred, though he is more than willing to drink expensive champagne and fine wines. He is, if anything, something of a wine bore, humiliating M on more than one occasion with his superior knowledge of the subject. When it comes to food Bond is rather a gourmet, though he does draw the line at stuffed sheep heads, and is himself an excellent cook. He doesn't appear partial to pomegranites, though.
Bond was at one time a heavy smoker, rarely being seen without a snout in his mouth, though he gradually cut down over the years (switching to cigars for a time) and eventually giving up altogether, deciding that it was a "filthy habit".
Other Bond trivia: he can withstand a force of 13G (most people pass out at 8G), once went on an assignment with M in Tokyo (though later he claimed he hadn't visited Japan before), knows a good tailor in Hong Kong and a good restaurant in Karachi, can waterski barefoot, is able to drink a full bottle of red wine (or any other amount of alcohol) without showing any effects of drunkenness, can tell a human from an animal heart at a glance and has a size 34 waist. He was even once presented with the Order of Lenin by General Gogol, as thanks for saving Silicon Valley, the source of all the Soviet Union's best microchip designs.
Put simply, he's the man. And he's British! (DN, FRWL, GF, TB, YOLT, OHMSS, DAF, LALD, TMWTGG, TSWLM, MR, FYEO, OP, AVTAK, TLD, LTK, GE, TND)

Bonita
(Nadja Regin)
A dancer at El Scorpio who is a brief dalliance of Bond's in Latin America after he destroys Amarez's cache of explosives. She doesn't alert him to the presence of an attacker, but pays the price when Bond spots the assailant reflected in her eyes and spins her round so she receives the cosh meant for Bond! (GF)
Bonsall
An HMS Ranger crewman, the last of the unlucky four picked to follow their first officer on a doomed mission aboard the Liparus. (TSWLM)
Boonit Job
One of Draco's criminal operations in November 1964, in which MI6 cost Draco three of his best operatives. He doesn't seem to hold this against M when he meets him at Bond's wedding. (OHMSS)
Boothroyd, Major Geoffrey
(Peter Burton, Desmond Llewelyn)
Initially the MI6 armourer, and the man who gives Bond his first Walther PPK, Boothroyd was promoted to head of Q Branch and adopted the codename of Q, which, apart from one exception, has been how has been referred to ever since. (DN, FRWL, TSWLM)

Bourbon and Water
The drink Bond orders when he enters the Fillet Of Soul restaurant in Harlem. (LALD)
Boussadi
A buyer at Sotheby's. (OP)
Bouvier, Pam
(Carey Lowell)
A former US Army pilot, who went freelance after leaving the service and ended up in Latin America, where she carried out contract work for the CIA and the Contras. She is also a DEA informant, providing information about the activities of Franz Sanchez, until her cover is blown after Felix Leiter's files are stolen. She meets up with Bond at the Barrelhead Bar in Bimini, and after a disagreement about just who saved who's life, they join forces. In Isthmus City, Pam pretends to be Bond's 'executive secretary', a role which causes her no small annoyance as she wants to know why Bond can't be her secretary! Although Bond orders her to leave, she stays to help him, for which Bond is ultimately thankful as without her plane he could never have caught up to Sanchez. She dislikes vodka martinis, however they are mixed. (LTK)
Bouvois, Colonel Jacques
(Rose Alba, Bob Simmons)
SPECTRE Number 6, who tries to avoid Bond's mission to 'remove' him (Bouvoir had killed two of Bond's fellow agents) by faking his own death. However, he got too clever when he appears at the funeral as his own widow, and Bond notices some non-feminine behaviour from 'her' - namely not waiting for a man to open the car door. After a fight at his house, Bouvois is killed by Bond after all, ending up with his head in a fireplace.
NB: Bouvois is spelt 'Boitier' in the credits, but the name is pronounced as above in the film itself. (TB)
Brad
A guard at the Tectronics plant, who fails to capture Bond. (DAF)
Brainwashing
A form of hypnosis used by Blofeld to 'program' the girls at Piz Gloria in to doing his bidding, without even being aware of it. A combination of sounds, lights and special audio tapes is used to produce the effect. (OHMSS)
Brandt, Helga
(Karin Dor)
Mr Osato's confidential secretary and private pilot, and also SPECTRE's Number 11. After letting Bond have his way with her, she then tries to kill him by trapping him in a light aircraft heading for the ground at high speed as she parachutes to safety. The attempt fails, and Blofeld expresses his displeasure (possibly as much for costing him an aircraft as for failing to kill Bond) by dumping her into his pool of piranha fish. (YOLT)
Brandy, Corsican
Draco's favourite beverage. (OHMSS)
Brandy, Hennessy
Given the choice, the five-star variety of this brandy is what Bond would like to see provided by Saint Bernard dogs on mountain rescue duty. (OHMSS)

Brausch
Make of silencer for the Walther PPK. Notable for only causing a small reduction in muzzle velocity. (DN)
Bray, Sir Hilary
(George Baker)
A doctor of Scottish descent at the College of Arms in London, Bray is the Sable Bezelist, whose job it is to establish people's hereditary links to noble families across Europe. Blofeld's lawyer wants him to do this for his client, which will require Bray meeting with Blofeld in person; Bond assumes his place in order to track down the villain.
Bray's hobbies include old churches and brass rubbings; while Bond is impersonating him, he plans to indulge himself in both in Brittany. His own coat of arms includes four bezants - gold balls. (OHMSS)
Bridal Suite
1: The hotel room that Bond takes in Istambul after finding that his first room is bugged - not realising that the bridal suite is equipped with a two-way mirror (FRWL).

British Railways
A now-defunct company whose trains mysteriously appear on the route of the Orient Express between Istanbul and Trieste! (FRWL)

British United Air Freight
Sister company to the above. (GF)
Broom
A gadget knocked up by Q in a hurry, containing a radio hidden in the handle and an aerial concealed in the bristles, so that he can tell Pam Bouvier when Bond leaves Sanchez's villa. Ironically, considering all the stick he's given Bond over the years for mistreating Q Branch equipment, Q then casually chucks the device away once he's finished with it! (LTK)
Bruge, Lt Francois
One of the two crew members intended to demonstrate the Tiger helicopter, who was murdered by Xenia Onatopp just before the flight. (GE)
BSA
A marque of British motorbike. One of their machines is modified to fire rockets from tubes in its front fairing; this unique piece of customisation is employed to deadly effect by Fiona Volpe when she blows away Count Lippe. (TB)
BT F 608
Registration of the Alfa Romeo stolen by Bond from a woman in West Germany. Well, she should have got off the phone when he asked. (OP)
BT 36-72
Registration of General Orlov's Mercedes, commandeered by Bond and, after the shredding of its tyres, turned into a makeshift railway vehicle. (OP)
Bug Detector
Bond uses numerous types of this device in his missions. They are usually disguised inside more common objects; covers have included a tape measure (FRWL), a black box hidden in Bond's shaving kit (LALD) and a Philips electric razor (AVTAK).
Building 23
The base of operations for Valentin Zukovsky, a St Petersburg nightclub in an industrial zone. (GE)
Bulgarian
(Hasan Ceylan)
An agent working in support of the KGB in Istanbul. All of Station T's operatives are familiar with him, making him a rather ineffective tail, especially as his beret, glasses and moustache mean he is visible from a mile away. He is killed by Red Grant when he tries to take the building plans Tatiana Romanova has left in a mosque for Bond. (FRWL)
Bulgarian Driver
An accomplice of the above, who has the misfortune to be one of Red Grant's first victims on his mission to kill Bond. The body i dumped outside the Russian consulate to provoke them into taking retaliatory action against Kerim Bey. (FRWL)
Bulldozer
A large earth-mover which Kamran Shah conveniently finds just outside the Russian airbase in Afghanistan, using it to demolish the electric fence around the base and let his mujahadeen troops enter. (TLD)
Bulletproof Vest
Q Branch had these long before they came into regular use with police and military forces around the world - even the earliest versions can stop a machine gun bullet from a few feet, though this still doesn't satisfy Q fully. Pam Bouvier later makes use of a commercially available model. (GF, LTK)
Bullfighting
A sport laid on for the entertainment of guests at Draco's birthday party. (OHMSS)
Bullion Boulevard
A road that leads past Fort Knox. (GF)
Bungalow 12
The hotel rooms where Bond and 'Mrs Bond' - Rosie Carver - stayed on San Monique. (LALD)
Bunky
(Paul Brooke)
A friend of Contessa Lisl, who isn't terribly lucky at baccarat - at least when Bond's also playing. (FYEO)
Bunt, Irma
(Ilse Steppat)
The personal secretary to Count Bleauchamp, alias Blofeld. As well as keeping a stern watch over the girls at Piz Gloria, Bunt seems to be in charge of security, leading the search for Bond after his escape to the village of Murren below. She is also one of the few of Blofeld's people to survive the destruction of Piz Gloria, getting her revenge on Bond by trying to gun him down after his wedding. She misses 007 - but hits his new wife. (OHMSS)
Busch
A brand of beer served at the Barrelhead Bar in Bimini. (LTK)
Bush
Felix Leiter's partner in Kentucky when he was keeping an eye on Bond at Goldfinger's stud farm. (GF)
Bus, Red
Symbol of London that must by law appear in any exterior scene in the city, just to point out to potentially unsure viewers that the action is, in fact, taking place in Merrie Olde England. (OP, LTK, GE)
Butcher, Professor Joe
(Wayne Newton)
A cheesy televangelist, extolling the virues of 'cone power' from the Oliupatec Meditation Institute outside Isthmus City. The whole operation is actually a cover for the sale of Sanchez's drugs, though Butcher's twinkling charms actually help it turn a genuine profit. Butcher likes to initiate new female recruits into the ways of cone power personally, in his soundproofed chambers, though Pam Bouvier's visit leaves him rather disappointed. He is last seen giving it sopme high knees down the road as the Institute explodes behind him. (LTK)
Butterflies
Or papillon, if you prefer. The Fabulous Dominique uses them in her act in the Eiffel Tower, as does May Day - though her black-and-yellow striped lepidoptera are rather more deadly. (AVTAK)

A sonic weapon used to kill MI6 operative Dawes at a United Nations assembly; it is connected to the headphones providing his translation and delivers a high-frequency sound that causes instant death. (LALD)
