Usagi smiled happily. It had been a year since she had returned to
Tokyo and everything was back to normal. Although she missed
Rachel, and her life as a ballerina, Usagi was happy just being
with Mamoru. They had worked everything out, and now were happily
engaged.

Gazing at her engagement ring, Usagi began daydreaming about the
wedding. Although they hadn't begun serious wedding plans, they
had discussed what they wanted and set a tentative date. Usagi
knew exactly what the dress she wanted looked like. Every last
detail was planned in her head.

"Usagi-chan! Telephone!" Ikuko called up the stairs. Usagi
reached over and picked up the phone.

"Hello!"

"Hi, Usagi? It's Rachel."

"Oh my gosh! Rachel!" Usagi squealed in delight. Rachel laughed.

"I'm at the airport right now, and had a devil of the time trying
to look your phone number up in the phone book."

"Oh! I'll come meet you right now, okay?" Usagi asked.

"If you don't mind I'd really appre..." Rachel began.

"Mind?" Usagi interrupted. "Not at all! Oh, I'll be there as
soon as possible. Look for a red car. See you soon!"

"Thanks! Bye."

Usagi hung up the phone and picked it up again. She quickly
dialed another telephone number and waited patiently.

"Hello?"

"Mamo-chan?" Usagi smiled at the sound of his voice.

"Usako..."

"Are you busy?" She asked.

"Nope, not at all."

"Great! Rachel's at the airport. Do you think we can go
pick her up?" Usagi asked.

"Sure, Usako. I'll be right there to get you, alright?" Mamoru
asked.

"K, thanks! Bye!"

"See you."

Usagi had noticed that since her disappearance, Mamoru never
told her good bye anymore. He always said 'see you' or 'I'll
see you soon'. It made Usagi smile, knowing that Mamoru loved
her that much.

Mamoru knew how much Rachel meant to Usagi. They were really
close. It was Rachel who was there for Usagi, when even he
wasn't.

Thinking about it brought tears to Mamoru's eyes, so he
pushed the thoughts away. He drove quickly to Usagi's house,
where she was waiting for him outside her house.

"Mamo-chan!" Usagi greeted happily as she slipped into his car.
Mamoru leaned over and kissed her softly on the lips.

"Mmm... What a nice greeting." Usagi smiled dreamily. "I
think Rachel's waiting, though."

Laughing gently, Mamoru pulled his car away from the curb and
headed towards the airport.

Usagi gazed at Mamoru as he drove. She took in his stormy blue
eyes, his deep black hair, his strong jawline... Whenever Mamoru
glanced at her, she saw the pure love that he held for her, in his
eyes. It was enough to frighten her, that she could mean so much
to one being, except that she felt the same way about him.

'Soulmates.' Usagi's mind reminded her. 'Two parts of the same
being.'

A smile played across her lips at the thought that no matter where,
no matter when, they would be together.

When they reached the airport, Rachel was standing outside, waiting
for her friend. Usagi opened the passenger door and stepped out.

"Rachel!" Usagi hugged her friend tightly. "It's been so long!"

"A year, Serena." Rachel replied, hugging her friend.

"Here, let's put these in the trunk." Usagi helped Rachel pile her
luggage in the trunk before the got back into Mamoru's car.

"Rach, you remember Chiba Mamoru, don't you? Mamo-chan, you know
Rachel."

"It's a pleasure seeing you again." Mamoru smiled as he pulled away
from the airport.

"And you as well." Rachel replied politely.

"Where are you staying, while you're here, visiting?" Mamoru
inquired.

"Oh.. Uhmm.. Well..." Rachel laughed. "Not sure yet."

"Your welcome to stay at my house!" Usagi exclaimed.

"Usako... Your not going to be at your house for the next week
or so." Mamoru gently reminded her.

"Oh yeah..." Usagi's face fell."

"But Rachel's welcome to come with you." Mamoru smiled as Usagi's
face lit up.

"You can stay with Mamo-chan and I. It's settled then." Usagi
didn't even look at Rachel. "Let's get her home and settled in!"

Once they reached Mamoru's apartment, and brought all of
Rachel's things up, the two girls sat down to a nice cup of
tea and gossip. Mamoru, knowing his girlfriend as well as he did,
remembered his promise to lend a book to Motoki.

"It's so great that your here. Is there a reason?" Usagi asked,
worry suddenly clouding her eyes. "Is Madame Duvo okay?"

"She's fine, although she misses you. We all do, Usagi." Rachel's
eyes became watery. "But you have a life here. One you belong to."

"I never meant to hurt anyone, Rachel. I didn't mean to abandon..."
Tears flowed freely down Usagi's cheeks.

"No! Usagi don't even think that!" Rachel exclaimed. "You never
abandoned anyone ever!"

"But I did..." Usagi whispered. "I abandoned Mamo-chan, and the
others... I had no right, no matter how I felt. I should always
have been there for them, like they were for me..."

Usagi was sobbing now, with one of Mamoru's throw pillows clutched
tightly against herself.

"I never should have... No matter what he..." Usagi buried her
face in her hands.

"Usagi... It wasn't your fault. Nothing was! It was all a
misunderstanding. How long had you and Mamoru *really* known
each other before the whole incident?" Rachel asked. Usagi
had filled her in on everything through letters. The two had
kept in touch, and knew most of what was going on in the other's
life.

"Not long..." Usagi whispered.

"So how was he to know that you would understand, that be damn
the dreams you would want to be with him?" Rachel asked. "You
two both changed since the Silver Millennium, but a few things
will never change. One, Mamoru would rather die than see you
hurt, and two you don't give a damn about anything but staying
with Mamoru. He knows your wishes, your truest wishes, but he
can't break his own code of honor, and that's never to let you
be hurt."

"It hurt me more to hear the words "I don't love you anymore" then
it would have to die." Usagi told her.

"I know that, Usagi, but he couldn't risk that. He just couldn't
risk losing you. Your everything he's got..."

"I know Rachel... He's everything to me..." Usagi wiped away
the tears and smiled.

"I see he finally asked you." Rachel gestured to the ring, and Usagi's
smile widened.

"Yes.." She gazed loving at the diamond ring, and everything it
represented.

"Well, I'm happy for you both. Have you set a date?" Rachel asked.

"Sorta of, maybe." Usagi replied. "Mamoru wants to get married in the
Spring because it reminds him of me, but I want to get married in
the Autumn, because I remember Mamoru once telling me he wants to
get married under a canopy of coloured trees."

"Which have you settled on?" Rachel asked.

"Autumn." Usagi laughed. "It's closer."

When Mamoru had returned, Usagi and Rachel had finished cleaning up
from their tea. Rachel had been impressed with Usagi's new domestic
skills. She could cook and clean flawlessly now.

"Due to Mamoru's private lessons." Usagi had confided, giggling.

Mamoru had entered the apartment silently, and stood in
the doorway watching his wife-to-be. Rachel assumed it
was stealth picked up from being Tuxedo Kamen. Usagi
seemed completely oblivious to the fact that he was
standing so close to her, until she spoke quietly.

"Are you going to stand there all day, Mamo-chan?" Her
voice was soft, and happy.

"Usako..." Was Mamoru's reply. He embraced her from
behind, molding her body against his. Tactfully, Rachel
disappeared from the room, leaving the two lovebirds
alone.

She went out onto the balcony to think. She had been
hoping to lure Usagi back into the World of Ballet, but
only if she seemed unhappy. Rachel was sure she had never
seen Usagi happier.

"There's nothing I can do here." Rachel whispered, a single
tear joining her voice, both being carried away on the wind.

Rachel turned back inside and smiled at Usagi and Mamoru, who
had curled up together on the couch. Mamoru was whispering
something to Usagi, and a faint blush stained her cheeks.

"I love you, Mamo-chan." She whispered.

Rachel knew for sure, at that exact moment, that Usagi would
never need anyone or anything aside from Mamoru, and Mamoru
would never dare leave her again. Not for a second. Usagi's
dancing past, was truly in the past.
