Darien sighed as he sat in his office. He hated his life. Life
without her.

"Mr.Shield?" A voice asked. Darien turned and saw his
new receptionist standing at his door. Your next
appointment is here and you weren't answering…."

He nodded and stood up, straightening his tie. He could
tell this woman was falling for him fast. He decided he
would have to do something about it.

"Send him in."

"Her, actually." The receptionist said, as a petite blonde
walked into his office. He almost fainted as he saw who it
was.

"Hello." She said as she walked forward and offered him
her hand. "I'm sorry Mr.Wilson couldn't make it today.
I'm Selene Moon."

Darien shook her hand and tried hard not to stare at her.

"Darien Shields." He told her. She laughed and Darien was
sure there were a thousand angels singing.

"I know." She smiled.

"Please." he gestured to a chair. "Have a seat."

"Thank you." She said sitting in the chair directly across
from his desk. Darien resumed his seat and faced her.

"What can I do for you?" he asked.

"Mr. Wilson wanted another grant." She almost seemed to
sigh. "The investigation isn't going very well, but we have
another lead in Tokyo."

Darien smiled as the hope crept into her voice.

"What do you know about the investigation?" He asked her.

"Honestly?" She asked. He nodded.

"Not much. I was only put on the case recently. If things
go well in Tokyo, maybe Mr.Wilson will see fit to give me
a raise. Oh!" She looked embarrassed, as if she shouldn't
have said that. Darien laughed.

"I'll give you another million if they put you in charge of
the case." Darien offered.

"But I don't know anything about it! Mr.Wilson has been
in charge for so long and…"

"And hasn't gotten anywhere with it." Darien interrupted
her. 'You've already solved it.' he added silently.

"Well, I'll review the case tonight and decide if I think I
can find her for you, sir. I can call you tomorrow and let
you know." She suggested, standing up.

'No! Don't leave!' Darien had to restrain himself from
grabbing her and taking her away forever. "Listen, why
don't I pick you up for dinner tonight and we can review
the case together?"

"I.. Uh… Okay." she said smiling. "I guess I'll see you
tonight then."

They shook hands and Darien followed her out of his
office.

"I'll see you tonight!" He called after her as she was getting
on the elevator.

"Bye." She mouthed and waved to him.

As far as Darien was concerned, he could die a happy man.

~~

That night at dinner, Darien took her to her favourite
restaurant. Lightening. He had already made reservations
at her favourite table. He suggested her favourite dish.
Ordered her favourite wine and had her favourite music
played.

"How is it, Mr.Shield, that you know so much about me?"
She asked. He laughed and took a sip of his wine.

"That's my little secret." he told her. She smiled and
brought her wine class to her lips.

"So how long have you been in charge of Silver
Millennium Enterprises?" Selene asked.

"A long time." he said, not really wanting to answer
questions that would lead to his age. At least not yet.

"You seem to young to be have established such a scary
reputation." She looked at him. "And too nice."

He smiled at her. She didn't know just how happy those
words made him.

"Thanks. Would you care to dance?" He asked her,
gesturing to the dance floor.

"Sure." He got up and helped her out of her seat before
leading her to the dance floor. The couples seemed to
separate as the two waltzed around.

"You dance very well and the people seem to know you. Do
you entertain here often?" she asked him.

"No. I own the place. I bought it a while ago." he told
her. 'Because you loved it so much in your past life.' he
added silently.

"Oh. It's lovely." she said. He laughed.

"They don't know I own the place. I bought it to keep it
in business." He explained. Her smile widened and the light
in her eyes brightened.

"That's nice." The two silently waltzed around for a while.
Then the music changed. It slowed and Darien pulled Selene
close to him. She gently rested her head on his shoulder
and sighed contentedly. Darien felt like he was in heaven.

'I don't think this situation can possibly get better.' he
thought to himself. Just then Selene looked up at him.
As their eyes met, he was sure she could tell.

"I love you." he whispered. She looked shocked.

"You don't even know me." she replied, before pulling away.
Darien caught her wrist and pulled her back.

"Forget it." he said. "It's just the wine talking."

It hurt him to say that to her, but he couldn't risk losing
her. Not again. That hurt even more.

"I don't want to dance anymore." She told him, so he led her
off the dance floor and back to their table.

Silently they sat and finished their meals. Darien paid the
check and led her to his car.

"I'm sorry." he told her. She nodded her head before staring
out the window. She didn't look at him, so he started his car
and began to drive. As he drove towards her house, she turned
and studied his profile.

'He's gorgeous.' She thought to herself. 'Why did he tell me he
loved me and why does this all feel so right?'

Darien sighed as he felt her eyes on his face and gently reached
his hand over and caressed her cheek. She averted her eyes and
stared at her hands, gently folded in her lap.

"Selene, do you ever dream that you are someone, or some where
else?" he asked her. Her head jerked up and she stared at him.

"Why?" she asked suspiciously.

"Just curious." he replied quickly. She stared forward for a
while not saying anything. Finally she spoke.

"Sometimes." She said looking back up at him.
"Sometimes I dream that I am a Princess of a far away place. I
have a prince whom I love dearly, and he loves me." She sighed
contentedly. He looked at her again and smiled.

"Another time, I dream about being a peasant girl and a wonderful
knight in shining armor carries me away."

Darien sighed remembering that time. She had been so loving and
trusting. It had taken him a while to convince her that he really
did love her, but once he had… Heaven was the only word he could
use to describe it.

"Another time, I'm a warrior and he travels with me. I always
dream about him, but I don't know who he is…" She shut her eyes
gently, and Darien looked at her. Her pale lashes made soft
golden crescents on her cheeks. Darien decided not to say anything
until he pulled up in front of her apartment.

"Selene, love, we're here." he said, gently brushing her hair away
from her face.

"Oh! I must have fallen asleep. I'm sorry." she said, blushing gently.

"It's okay." he said as he got out and opened her door. He helped her
out.

"You know, we never reviewed the case. Mr.Wilson wants to know
your final decision tomorrow." She told him. "We
can go up to my apartment and do that now if you'd like."

"Sure." Darien replied. He wasn't about to give up the opportunity
to spend more time with her. Darien locked his car doors and Selene
led him up to her apartment.

"Sorry about the mess." She said as she unlocked the front door.

"Don't worry about it." He smiled at her.

"You can have a seat." She said, gesturing to the couch. "I just
need to get the case file." Selene went into her kitchen and grabbed
the gray folder off the table.

"Okay." She sat down next to him and opened up the folder.

"Do you want to know something?" he asked her. She looked up at him.

"What?"

"About the case. Do you want to know something about the case that I
didn't tell the others?"

"If you want to tell me." She said.

"I love her. I love her more than life itself, which is rather ironic if
you think about it." He gave a bitter laugh before standing up and moving
towards her window. Selene looked at him puzzled and he decided to
elaborate.

"When I'm with her I can't think straight and I say and do things I don't
mean to say or plan to say. I tell her things in ways I had never meant
to. She'll understand, I tell myself. She's supposed to. She doesn't
though, because she doesn't remember. This time I haven't even been able
to find her and I wonder if they are trying to tell me something." He
stopped abruptly and looked at her. Her eyes were sad and she got up.

"Mr.Shields, I.."

"Darien. Call me Darien." He interrupted her.

"Darien, I.." She was standing in front of him, surrounded in pale
silvery moonlight and Darien couldn't resist. He kissed her, full on
the lips. Selene stiffened as he pulled her close, but slowly melted
into the kiss and against him. Her arms crept up his chest and behind
his head. Her fingers intertwined with his hair. Darien couldn't stop.
He needed her so much. Too much. Finally Selene pulled away.

"This is wrong. You love someone else." She whispered to him.

"Do I?" he asked her. "I think you know more about this case then you
are letting on. I think you know everything about it and I think you are
scared because you know who I'm looking for."

Selene turned away from her before answering.

"You're right. I do know." She clenched her fist at her chest.. "You
are looking for me. I came to you because I wanted to know why. Why me?"

She turned to him, expecting an answer, so he gave her one.

"In all those dreams you have, the man is me. I'm your knight in
shining armor, I'm your prince charming, I'm your traveling bodyguard.
In all those lives, I'm the one you love. I'm the one constant thing in
every life you live. Because I make myself always constant, always there
for you. Do you know why? I love you! I love you so much. My love
never dies. It only grows stronger with each day I grow older without
you. Then you come into my life and I love you even more with each day
you are there. And my life is eternal." He paused as she recoiled. He
knew why. His face had changed. His eyes had darkened and his teeth had
lengthened and turned sharp. He turned away from her.

Suddenly, memories began flooding Selene's mind. She saw images of lives
long past. She saw that in each one, he was with her. He did love her.
He had been telling her the truth.

Slowly, Selene moved towards him and laid her hand on his shoulder. She
gently pushed him so that he would face her. He moved easily under her
touch. She took his face into her hands and kissed him in the watery
moonbeams. Darien kissed her back. With all the ferocity of his love.
She matched his passion. Darien was shocked and he pulled away.

"I remember." she whispered, still holding his face close to hers. "I
remember everything. I love you Darien."

Without another word, Darien kissed her again. He knew he was in for
another lifetime of heaven.
