"Naru-chan!" Gurio called to his wife. "You have mail!"
Naru walked down the stairs and Gurio handed her a white envelope. Slowly, Naru went back to her room, and sat on her bed. She looked at the white envelope.
The script on the front was gold and Naru didn’t recognize it. She opened the envelope and looked at the letter inside. The paper was white and the writing flowing and beautiful Naru read the letter.
Dear Naru-chan,
There was always so much you never knew, you never could know. Very few could. Everyone kept telling me the time would come when I could tell you everything, as best friends should. I believe that time has come now.
Naru-chan, you are married and I am engaged. You are expecting a child, while I am expecting to expect. You have always lived a normal life. I have not. You will never know how much I envied you of that. Naru-chan, I wish to tell you everything, for the time will come, soon, when everyone shall know everything. You, as my bestfriend, deserve an advance. I would be overjoyed if you would visit me today, at my home, so I may tell you what it is I need to tell you. Please come, Naru-chan.. It would mean the world to me.
Your friend,
Tsukino Usagi
“Usagi-chan, you have kept me out of your life for so long. Thank you, for finally inviting me back!” Naru whispered.
She got up and glanced at her watch. 2:36. Naru quickly changed into the new dress Gurio had bought for her. She walked down the stairs and called to her husband.
“Gurio!” He came running.
“What’s wrong Naru-chan! It is time? Do you need to go to the hospital?” He was frantic. Naru laughed.
“No, I’m fine. I need to go out now. Could you drive me?” She asked.
“Of course!” Gurio declared. He helped her put on her jacket and, together, they went out to the car. Gurio helped his wife into their car and than got in himself. He started the car before speaking to her.
“Where do you need to go?” He asked her.
“Usagi’s house.”
“Why? She deserted you, when we were in school. Usagi barely made our wedding, and she was the brides maid!” Gurio protested.
“Gurio! Don’t be rude. She is my bestfriend.”
“No, those other girls she hangs out with are her best friends. She...”
“Gurio please!” Naru interrupted. Gurio was quiet as he pulled out of the drive way and drove to Usagi’s house. It didn’t take long. Soon Naru was standing on the front porch of Usagi’s house. She rang the door bell. Mamoru answered.
“Naru-san! It’s good to see you. Usagi-chan’s expecting you. Please, come in.” Mamoru opened the door wider and helped her inside.
“Naru-chan!” Usagi squealed in delight. She ran to her friend and threw her arms around her.
“Usako! Be careful.” Mamoru called affectionately.
“I came as soon as I got your letter.” Naru explained. “I hope that’s ok...”
“Of course! Naru-chan, please come in and sit. I have much to tell you.” Together, the three went into Usagi and Mamoru’s living room.
“Mamo-chan,” Usagi began. “Could you go get the cookies I baked?” Naru made a face.
“Usagi-chan, you can’t cook!” She exclaimed. Usagi giggled, than sighed.
“There’s so much about me now, that you don’t know. So much has changed.” Mamoru brought in a plate of cookies. They were chocolate chip, and made perfectly. Naru gasped.
“I take it back!” She said as she bit into one of the cookies. “You can cook!” Usagi smiled.
“Perhaps I should start. Naru-chan, do you remember my cat? Luna?”
“Yes. I loved that cat. She was so beautiful.”
“And still is. It began with her. You see Naru-chan, I am Sailor Moon.” Naru gasped.
“No way!”
“Yes, that’s why Sailor Moon was always there to save you. That’s how I knew about Nephlyte. You know,” Usagi laughed. “I was never a fierce warrior. At the very beginning I was an out right coward. Somehow, whenever you were in danger, I always found courage to save you. I ran into danger that even Luna warned me not to, for you.”
“I always wondered why Sailor Moon was always there for me. I just thought she was the defender of the innocent, and I was a target for the Negaverse. I never knew it was because my best friend was Sailor Moon! That’s why you and I drifted apart.”
“Yes. I couldn’t tell you than because Luna, and the other senshi kept telling me, it wasn’t safe, for you or for us.” Usagi continued her explanation of everything that had happened over the last 2 years. She explained everything. From the very beginning, to the very end. “.....guided the star seeds back, and my Mamo-chan came back to me. All the senshi did.”
“Wow! That sounds so beautiful. Usagi-chan, you’re so brave. In your letter, you said you always envied my life, while I’ve always envied yours. Sailor Moon has the hearts of so many guys around the world. All the senshi do. They’re beautiful, graceful, magical, powerful... Usagi-chan, why did you choose now to tell me?” Naru asked.
“Because soon, I will take my rightful place as ruler of.... well, of the universe. Soon I will become Neo-Queen Serenity, and Mamoru will be King Endymion. Chibi Usa will be Princess Serenity and the senshi will be my royal guard. Soon everyone will know all of this. Besides, I’ve always wanted to tell you. I felt do bad for drifting away from you. It wasn’t fair to you.”
“I was always left in the dark... I’m glad you told me Usagi-chan!” Naru got up and went to Usagi and hugged her.
“I’m very glad.” They two women sat hugging each other until they heard the door bell. Mamoru answered.
“I’m here to collect my wife.” They heard. It was Gurio. Mamoru invited him in.
“Naru-chan!” He called. He went to her.
“Are you ok? I was so worried about you I couldn’t stay away.” He hugged her.
“I’m fine, Gurio-chan. Just fine.” Slowly, with Gurio’s help, Naru got up and left Usagi’s house.
She knew the they could never regain what they had had as children, but they would still be friends. Distant friends. Tears began to well up in Naru’s eyes.
‘Usagi-chan’ she thought. ‘You’re the Princess of the Moon and the Messiah. How could I ever be your best friend? I’m nobody special. I’m nobody at all...’ Naru forgot about Usagi as she felt her fist contraction.
“Gurio...” She said, and without another word he turned the car around and drove to the hospital.
