Serena woke up with an awful headache. Moaning, she tried to sit up, but
her head started pounding, so she fell back onto her pillow. She turned her
head enough to look at her clock and saw that she had to be at school in forty
five minutes.

'Forget school.' She decided. 'There is no way I'm going to get through
a day feeling like this. Ames will bring my work over.'

Sighing, Serena rolled over and went back to sleep.

Darien glanced at his watch. Serena was usually ready to go by now. He set his
coffee down and went upstairs to her room. He knocked gently, but got not reply,
so he opened the door and peered in.

There lay Serena, asleep among the fluffy white blankets and pillows, with the
white gauze of the canopy bed surrounding her. Her golden hair pooled beneath
her head, almost like a halo.

Slowly, Darien made his way towards the edge of her bed to see if she was awake.
He carefully leaned over her bed and saw that her eyes were shut and she was
deeply asleep. He was about to wake her when he noticed that her skin was paler
than usual. He lifted his hand to touch her forehead and found that she was burning
up. Darien flipped.

"Nathan! Serena's sick! Bring the car around!" Darien called from the door way of
Serena's room before picking her up carefully.

"Wha..?" Serena asked as she started to wake up.

"Hush, Serena, your sick." Darien told her as he carried her out of her room.

"I can wal.." She started to say before falling unconscious.

"Nathan hurry! She's unconscious!" Darien ran down the stairs with the
petite girl in his arms. He ran through the door Nathan held open and
carefully set her in the passenger seat of the jaguar Nathan had brought
to the font of the house. Then he raced around the car.

"I'll call you from the hospital!" Darien told Nathan as it got into the
car. Nathan nodded as Darien drove away.

Darien parked his car in a no parking zone, got out and raced around to
lift Serena out. He slamed the door, locked the car and carefully ran
into the hospital.

"What happened to her?" A doctor asked as she saw Darien carrying the still
unconscious girl.

"I don't know. She had a fever when I found her and..." Darien's voice
trailed off as the doctor called for a gurney.

"We'll take care of her. Go to the front desk and fill out the forms they
give you." The doctor told him. Darien nodded and went to the front desk.

"Excuse me, can you page Doctor Furuhata for me please." Darien asked. The
nurse nodded and picked up the phone. A few minutes later, Andrew came
down.

"What is it? Darien! What are you doing here?" Andrew asked.

"Serena... She's sick. I don't know what's wrong with her. Andrew, can
you find out for me?" Darien asked his long time friend.

"I'll see what I can do." Andrew pulled some sheets out from behind the
desk. "Have you filled these out?"

"No."

"Here, you have to do that then."

Andrew handed Darien the papers and directed him to the waiting room chairs.
Darien sat down and began to fill out the forms, while Andrew went to see
what had happened to Serena.

A few minutes later, Andrew came back to find Darien pacing nervously.

"Gee, Dare, you look like an impatient father." Andrew joked.

"This is no time for joking! What's wrong with her?" Darien asked, standing
in front of Andrew.

"It's nothing too serious. She has influenza." Andrew told him. Darien
sighed with relief and sank into one of the chairs. "They are giving her
some anti-biotics and letting her rest."

"I was so worried..." Darien pulled his cellphone out from his jacket pocket
and called home. "Nathan, it's me. She's okay. Influenza. Yeah. Bye."

Darien hung up the phone and looked up at Andrew.

"When will I be able to take her home?"

"Probably tomorrow. I think they want to keep her over night under
observation." Andrew explained.

"She only has a cold though!" Darien exclaimed.

"Yeah, but her symptoms are unusually strong. She's under Doctor Anderson's
care. She's one of the best in pediatrics."

"Can I see her now?" Darien asked.

"Sure." Andrew led Darien to Serena's room. Serena was lying on the narrow
hospital bed in a pale hospital gown. There was a tube coming out of her
arm and she looked really pale.

"Don't stay too long, Dare. She needs to rest." Andrew said quietly, before
shutting the door.

"How are you feeling?" Darien asked softly as he sat in the chair next to
her bed.

"Okay." Serena said weakly.

"That's good."

"I'm sorry for being such a pain, Darien. I'll try to be nicer now." Serena
said softly before yawning.

"Hey, don't worry about it." Darien told her. Serena smiled a bit before
drifting off to sleep. Darien remained at her side for a while longer,
just watching her sleepf peacefully.
