"Move in with you?" Serena repeated, dumbfounded.
"Yes, move in with me. Serena, I love you. I want to spend every waking
moment with you, as I have been, and more. I want to spend the rest of my life
with you. I want..." Darien began.
"Is this a marriage proposal, or an offer to move in with you? Look Darien,
I'm not sure." Serena stood up from the couch the two had been sitting together on
and began pacing the apartment.
"What's not to be sure about?" He asked, getting up and standing behind her,
his hands resting gently on her shoulders.
"My parents would flip. They don't even know about you, about us. I
can't just suddenly move in with a guy they've never met."
"So introduce me to them." Darien replied. Serena froze. Her parents knew
about her engagement to David, so how could she introduce them to Darien?
'But it's over with David!' She told herself.
'Do they know that? Does David know that?'
Sighing, Serena turned to face Darien. She lovingly stroked his cheek
before speaking.
"Give me a few days to talk things over with them, okay?" She asked.
"Anything, Serena." Darien smiled. Serena smiled back, before resting her
head on his chest.

"David, we need to talk." Serena held the receiver tightly, her voice
shaking.
"What is it Serena?" David asked.
"Not over the phone, not like this. In person." She told him. Serena could
hear David sigh before relenting.
"Alright. Meet me at our bench in the park, near the lake. Twenty minutes?"
He asked.
"Thanks." Serena hung up the phone. Taking a deep breath, she checked her
appearance once more before heading out the door. She climbed in her car and reached
the park in record time. The walk towards the bench would have been pleasant on any
other day. The sun was slowly beginning to set, casting a golden hue over the blue water.
"Hello Sere." David greeted. He stood up from the bench he had been seated on.
"Hi David. This shouldn't take long." Serena clutched the velvet box in her
pocket.
	"What is it?" David asked.
"It's over, David." Serena blurted out.
"What's over? The scam with Darien?" He asked.
"No, us David. We're over." Serena held the box out on the flat of her
palm. David stared at is for a moment before looking up at Serena.
"What do you mean?" He asked. "Has Darien...?"
"No! This has nothing to do with Darien. Look David, after meeting with
you in Crown... It's over. It's just over..." Serena handed him the ring and turned,
walking away. "I'm sorry David."
Without another word, she continued walking away.

"Darien, I'll move in with you, on one condition." Serena clutched the
receiver tightly for the second time that night, but this time it was in anticipation.
"Anything, just name it." Darien replied, smiling.
"You have to meet my parents..." Serena held her breath as she waited
for Darien to reply.
"When and where?" Darien asked, and Serena let out her breath.
"Saturday night my parents are giving a little dinner party." Serena replied,
leaving out the fact that it was supposed to be an engagement type party for David
and herself.
"Alright. How about I swing by your place, pick you up and we go?" Darien
asked.
"Great!" Serena exclaimed. "I'll see you soon than?"
"Sure thing Serena. I love you..."
"I love you too. Bye Darien..." Serena pushed the receiver button, cutting herself
off from Darien, before releasing it and dialing her parents number. "Mom? I wanted
you to know... It's over between David and me. I met someone else...."

When Saturday night rolled around, Serena was nervously fixing her hair
in front of the hall mirror when the door bell rang. Quickly brushing her bangs out of her
face, she answered the door with a smile.
"Hello Darien." She smiled shyly at him.
"Hi Serena." Darien stepped forward and brushed her lips with his. "Ready?"
"Yeah." Serena grabbed her jacket, which Darien took from her and slipped
over her shoulders.
	"Let's get going."

"Shields, eh?" Serena's father asked. "I think I've heard that name
before..."
"Probably not, Daddy." Serena smiled innocently, squeezing Darien's
hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Mr.Shields." Her mother smiled.
"Darien, please." Darien smiled charmingly at Serena's mother, who
giggled and blushed.
"Do you need any help with dinner mom?" Serena asked.
"Oh, I think I've got everything under control." Her mom replied. "Why
don't you introduce Darien to Sammy?"
"Where is that little rascal?" Serena asked.
"Up in his room." Irene replied.
"Lead the way." Darien smiled at Serena standing up. The two made
their way up the stairs towards Sammy's room.
"Hey you!" Serena exclaimed, throwing open the door to
her brother's room.
	"Serena!" he exclaimed.
"How have you been?" Serena asked, hugging her little brother.
"Fine, great, you?" He asked, excited to see Serena.
"Wonderful. I want you to meet someone." Serena smiled as she
took Darien's hand. "Sammy, this is Darien. Darien, Sammy."
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Sammy shook Darien's hand.
	"You as well." Darien smiled.
"I hate to do this, but I have midterms to study for... Can we talk in
a little bit?" Sammy asked.
"Sure thing." Serena smiled and the two left Sammy to his books.
"This is my old room." Serena pushed the door open to reveal the lavender
room. Rabbits and crescent moons adorned the bedspread and the filmy white
curtains were blowing gently in the breeze from the open window.
"Cute." Darien glanced around and smiled. "You must have had a
nice childhood."
"I supposed." Serena shrugged. "I've never thought about it much.
She flopped down on her back, staring up at the ceiling. "My parents
have always been there for me, albeit they're a bit controlling. Overprotective,
really. They worry too much."
Darien joined her on the bed, leaning on his side so he could watch her.
"What about you, Darien?" She asked, looking up at him. "How was your
childhood?"
"Okay, I guess. I spent most of it in an orphanage just outside of town.
My parents died when I was five." Darien's voice was low and quiet. Serena
gasped.
"Oh! I'm so sorry. Oh Darien…" Serena pulled him down into
an embrace, holding him tightly and softly stroking his hair.
"Serena, Mom said dinn…" Sammy froze where he stood in
the door way. "But hey! If your busy…"
"No! No, not at all." Serena blushed furiously. Darien laughed
and pulled away.
	"We'll be right down."
After dinner, which went surprisingly well considering Serena's
father, the two went off on their merry way.
"Good bye Mr. Shields!" Sammy called after the two.
"Bye Sammy. Bye Mom, Dad." Serena smiled at her parents
and waved.
"Shields.. Shields… Wait! I know where I know that
name! Darien Shields! You're the multimillionaire business tycoon!"
Her father exclaimed.
