"It's lovely Darien." Serena whispered as she gazed up at the
moonlit sky.
"Yes." Darien replied softly. He was holding her tightly as
they stood on the balcony of their apartment.
When Serena had gotten home from school, Darien had had a
candle lit dinner waiting for her, and now they were just enjoying
each other's company.
"Dinner was wonderful, Darien. Thank you."
"Your welcome, Princess." He smiled.
"How was work today?" She asked.
"Fine." Darien replied evasively.
"Only fine?" Serena asked.
"How was school?" He asked, avoiding her question.
"Boring." Serena sighed. "It's not very interesting
anymore. I can't seem to focus on anything but y..." Serena
caught herself in time. "Your work." She tried to cover,
blushing furiously. She was glad it was so dark out.
"Commerce isn't that interesting, Serena. Honest."
Darien laughed.
"I dunno." Serena shrugged. "So what are your plans for
this weekend?" She asked.
"What would you like to do?" He asked in response.
"I dunno. Maybe see Mina and Andrew?" She suggested.
"Alright. I'll give them a call tomorrow."
As if on cue, the telephone inside rang. Sighing, Darien
released Serena.
"I'll be right back." He whispered before retreating
inside to answer it.
"Hello?" He snapped.
"Did you do it yet?" Andrew asked.
"Not yet, and I would be asking, but I'm busy on the
phone!" Mamoru exclaimed.
"Sorry. Go ask and let me know what she says!" Andrew
demanded before hanging up the phone. Shaking his head, Darien
headed back out to Serena.
"Who was it?" She asked.
"Wrong number." Darien replied.
"Oh."
"Serena?" Darien asked after a few minutes.
"Yeah?"
"I want to ask you something." Darien paused. "If you don't
want to answer right away, that's okay."
"Sure Darien. What is it?" Serena turned in his arms and
faced him.
"Serena..." Darien took a deep breath. "I know we
haven't known each other a long time, but I feel as though I've
known you forever... I love you, and I want to spend the rest of
my life with you. Serena, will you marry me?"
For the second time in her life, Serena was presented with
a gorgeous engagement ring. The beautifully cut diamond was mounted
on a simple gold band. She was speechless as she gazed at Darien,
down on one knee in front of herm offering the ring to her.
"Darien... I..." She whispered.
"Serena, I understand it..."
"Yes!" She interrupted him. "Yes! A thousand times yes!"
Darien stood up and slipped the ring onto her finger
before wrapping his arms around her.
"Serena..." He whispered gently before catching her lips
with his.

"No way Serena! Oh that is so romantic!" Mina squealed.
"I know! I was so excited." Serena smiled.
"And the wedding is in less than a week!" Amy added.
"Oh pshaw, Ames. Let's enjoy the time Serena has left
as a single woman." Mina laughed.
"True, not that I'll mind being married." Serena giggled.
"We have to get to the final fitting for your dress in
twenty minutes." Amy told them. "We'll have to hurry!"
Chattering away, the three women headed towards the bridal
shop. Serena had introduced Amy and Mina just days before, and
they had hit if off as quickly as Serena and Mina. Amy was her
Maid of Honour, along with Lita and Raye as brides maids.
"This is going to be the biggest wedding ever! I want to
see the guest list when we get back." Mina told Serena as they
stepped into the store.
"Uhmm... List?" Serena asked. "There aren't that many
people coming, Mina. Mostly my family."
"What?! You should have invited everyone who is anyone."
"This is an intimate occasion, and only calls for those
you are closest with." Amy stated.
"But this is Darien Shields we are talking about! Everyone
knows him and everyone will want to be part of this!" Mina
exclaimed.
"Darien and I talked about this already. We decided
only to invite the people who mean most to us." Serena spoke
calmly. Mina sighed.
"Alright, fine. I guess we'll just have to throw
you two a huge bash when you get back from your honeymoon."
"Where is he taking you, anyway?" Amy asked.
"Hawaii." Serena giggled. "Then we're touring Europe."
"Sounds dreamy." Amy sighed. "I'd love to tour Europe."
"Then we will, someday, Ames. We will." Serena promised.
"Like I could afford it, or afford to leave my clinic that
long if I had the money." Amy scoffed.
"Where there's a will, there's a chance." Mina stated
firmly.
"A way, Mina, where there's a will, there's a way."
Serena corrected, but her friend was already off ordering the
store clerks about.

The day dawned beautifully. Birds were chirping at
Serena's window, and the sun shone brightly over the green lawns.
"Wake up, sleepy head." Her mother said softly.
"Hmm?" Serena asked, slowly pulling herself from her
dreams.
"Come on, wake up! My little girl is all grown up and
getting married today." Irene smiled at her baby.
"Morning Mom."
"Are you ready to get going?" Irene asked.
"Sure. Just let me *yawn* shower and stuff, k?" Serena
asked. She had spent her last night a single woman in her own
home, because it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding,
and Serena didn't trust Darien not to look at her.
"Okay, breakfast will be ready when you come down." Irene
paused at the door to smile at her daughter once before before
leaving.
Serena lazily rose from her bed and stretched before
heading to the bathroom. She took her time in the hot steamy
water before stepping out and into a fluffy white robe. She headed
downstairs with her hair wrapped tightly in a towel.
"Hurry and eat so we can get you to the church and dressed
in that gorgeous dress of yours." Irene ordered.
"Alright Mom." Serena agreed before devouring her
breakfast.
***
The organ music flooded the large church as Ken escorted
his daughter down the aisle. Serena was dressed in a long white
dress. The bodice was snug around her delicate waist and the skirt
billowed out around her legs. The filmy veil covered her face,
but Darien could see the brilliant blue of her eyes anyway.
Darien accepted her hand from her father, and the ceremony
was underway.
"If anyone has any reason as to why these two should
not be wed in holy matrimony, speak now, or forever hold your
peace." The minister spoke.
Darien and Serena gazed at each other, so completely caught
up in each other's eyes that neither noticed the doors to the
cathedral fly open, or the man in the suit walking up the aisle.
"I have a reason!" He shouted, shocking everyone present.
"David!" Serena gasped, a gloved hand flying up to
cover mouth.
"Serena, love. Don't go through with this! You know
the only reason you even went to the party was to meet him and
get money from him, for our church. Serena, please! I love you!"
David exclaimed.
Tears welled up in Serena's eyes as she looked up at
Darien. He believed David, Serena could tell from the look
in his eyes. He believed that she only cared about his money.
'But it's true, that's why you went.' That annoying
little voice whispered.
"Darien..." She whispered.
"Is it true?" His voice was dangerously low.
"Darien, I.." She began.
"Is it true?" He repeated. "Did you only want to meet
me for my money?"
"Originally, yes, but..."
Again he interrupted her.
"You only want my money?" He asked softly. "Its yours.
You don't have to marry me for it."
"Darien, I don't want your money! I love you!" She exclaimed,
but he was already on his way out the door.
