Martian Successor Nadesico

Earth’s mighty space fleets have been destroyed in cataclysmic battle with extraterrestrial invaders. The marauding enemy is now free to ravage humanity’s space colonies on the Moon and Mars; it now stands ready to strike at the Earth itself. The only hope left to the Earth’s citizens is a single battle-ship armed with large guns and huge robots. This ship was built by the independent arms manufacturer Nergal, who became so disgusted with the military’s incompetence that they assembled they’re own unorthodox crew rather than allow the military to have the NADESICO. With a pilot who claims to be a cook and a general’s daughter in command, the new starship is the most formidable fighting vehicle ever conceived. Before even getting into space though the crew must first contend with they’re own species as they try to fight off the military’s attempt to take over the NADESICO.

Like your typical space sci-fi comedy, there's plenty of mecha action involving big energy blasts and trans-dimensional travels in Nadesico. With a bridge full of anime babes, from a first glance it seems like a silly and unoriginal attempt at comedy. However as the plot unfolds, there is a truly intricate and complicated story with a very entangled web of back-stories that connects the conflicts together into epic proportions. There are plenty of subtle inline themes within the episodes that provoke the mind of the thoughtful audience while give the comedic bunch a laugh of their life. The cunning satire really runs well in Nadesico when there's an anime series within it. Gekiganger III, an anime TV series all by itself, is a part of Nadesico and the interaction of this show with the people of Nadesico is truly amusing.

I personally rate this series highly and look forward to seeing the entire series as A.D.V. films releases them to the U.S. This is definatly a MUST SEE in my book.
