The Sovremenny Class Destroyer is the front line Russian Destroyer. It's main roles are anti-ship, anti-aircraft and limited anti-sub and coastal bombardments. To do those jobs, each ship is equipped with 8 anti-ship missiles, 48 surface -to-air missiles, anti-sub torpedos and various gun systems.

This destroyer was designed in the late 70's to early 80's in former Soviet Union. It's aim is to act as the surface attack and air-defence destroyer in the Soviet fleet, it also responsible for aiding Soviet cruiser escorting the Soviet carrier battle group.

Countering the new American threat: Aegis naval battle system, the Sovremenny class destroyer is equipped 8 seperate launch tube SS-N-22 "Moskit" SSM. Even though most equipment are not the best up-to-date technology, China had placed an order of 2 Sovremenny class destroyer, due to it's outstanding anti-ship ability. Being able to penatrate the Aegis' defence and almost impossible to intercept, it is ideal for the PLAN (Chinese Navy)to knock down American carrier, cruiser, Japanese "Kongo" Aegis destroyer/cruiser and potentical Taiwanese purchase of "Arleigh Burke" class destroyer.
