Usagi sat stiff backed as the four senshi circled the couch.
Mamoru sat across from her.
"Where were you?"
"America."
"How long have you been there?"
"Since I left here." Usagi replied.
"Why did you leave?" Minako asked. She was leading the interrogation in her
sloppy I've-watched-too-many-cop-drama's style. Usagi would have found it
terribly funny, if it hadn't been her they were interrogating.
"I left, because of him." Usagi said, pointing at Mamoru. "I left because
I wanted to stop all this fighting. I left because..."
Before Usagi could finish her sentence, a beep sounded through out the room.
"Youma attack." Ami said, pulling out her mini super computer. "North Central
Park."
"What are we going to do? We can't leave her here." Makoto asked.
"I'll watch her." Mamoru offered. "You guys can deal with it without me."
"We haven't fought a youma since Usagi left!" Rei exclaimed.
"Its okay, Rei-chan. I used to handle them by myself all the time in England."
Minako said confidently before the four left Mamoru's apartment.
Sighing, Usagi glanced around the apartment. It hadn't changed much, maybe a
bit messier, but nothing drastic. Mamoru, on the other hand, had changed a lot.
His eyes now held an unspeakable sadness, and he was thinner than he used to be.
"Your looking well, Usako." Mamoru said softly.
"Thank you." She said. "Ballet keeps me in shape."
"I see."
Silence filled the apartment and Usagi kept avoiding Mamoru's eyes. Finally,
she stood up and looked at the picture lining the cabinet behind the couch.
They were all pictures of her.
'Strange,' Usagi thought. 'For a guy who doesn't love me...'
"Why did you do it, Usako? Why did you leave?" Mamoru asked, his voice
full of hurt.
"Because of you, Mamoru-san!" Usagi whirled around to face him. "Because
you told me you didn't love me anymore! Because when I asked if it was
because of those nightmares I had been having, and I knew you had been having,
you said no! You said it had nothing to do with that! Do you think I could
live here, so close to you, but so far away? Knowing that I might walk
into the arcade one day and see you with another girl? Do you think I could
live and function that way?"
Sometime during her tirade, Mamoru had stood up and walked closer to her. Usagi
slowly backed away from him, but he followed her. Suddenly Usagi found herself
backed up against a wall, with Mamoru so close he was almost touching her.
"What's wrong Usako?" Mamoru asked her. "Are you afraid?"
"I want to know why you are calling me Usako. I want to know why you have
pictures of me all over, yet say you don't love me." Usagi said, ignoring his
question.
"Don't you understand?" Mamoru asked her. "Maybe you are just too afraid to
realize the truth."
"I am a fighter for truth. I am never afraid of it." Usagi spoke defiantly.
Mamoru laughed softly.
"I told you anything and everything I could think of so that you would stay
away. I knew I could never stay away from you, but if you avoided me... It
didn't matter what I said, so long as you were safe, Usako. I was afraid for
you." Mamoru spoke slowly. "I didn't think you would go as far as leaving, but
as soon as the jet took off, I knew. I felt it, and I felt the fear and nightmares
leaving. It wasn't then that I regretted my words. That came the second they
left my mouth. I regretted telling you that I didn't love you as I stood
there, saying it to you."
"You didn't trust in our love." Usagi stated quietly.
"No, but I do now! I love you Usako!"
"You didn't trust in our love, so how do you expect me to trust in you?"
Usagi asked, slipping away from Mamoru. Mamoru turned and watched her
as she crossed his apartment and went out onto the balcony. He followed
her.
"I don't expect you to trust me right away."
"Or ever?" Usagi asked.
"Usako, please!"
"Please? Please what? Please forgive you for ruining my life? What?" Usagi asked.
"I can't take this anymore. First you hate me, then you love me, then you
try to kill me, then you die for me, then you forget everything, then love,
then hate and now back to love? When are you going to start hating me again?
How am I supposed to have faith in you anymore?"
"Usako, don't think like that! I do love you!" Mamoru exclaimed.
"Now you do, but what about tomorrow?" Usagi asked before turning and going back inside.
"And the day after tomorrow, Mamoru? What then?"
Usagi fled his apartment in tears. She did not need to hear that he loved her. That
he had always loved her. She couldn't handle it.
With her vision blurred, Usagi ran, knowing Mamoru was right behind her. Wiping
her eyes with the back of her hand, Usagi ran to the park. Unknowingly, Usagi ran
into the middle of the youma fight. She looked up in time to see the youma standing
in front of her with a nasty grin on it's face.
Before she could move, she heard the senshi simultaneously launch their attacks at the youma, who ducked. She saw the colourful blasts heading her way, but was trapped like a
deer in headlights. They hit her, and she felt their true power coursing through her.
Usagi's limp body fell to the ground with a loud thud.
"Usako!"
"Usagi!" The senshi screamed her name. Sailormars turned to the youma and threw a fierce fire ball at it, moondusting it instantly. Mamoru fell to his knees next to
Usagi and scooped her up into his embrace.
"Usako, Usako... I love you so much.. You are going to be fine... Just fine.." he
whispered to her. "Just hang on..."
"Mamo-chan..." Usagi said weakly. "I... I do love you... I always have... I have
faith..."
Her voice trailed off as her head fell to the side.
"Usako!"
