It was the summer Serena turned sixteen when everything changed. Sixteen was the magical
number at Miss Beeton's Boarding School for Young Ladies. At sixteen, you were allowed to
go into town on Friday nights and the weekends with your friends. You no longer needed a
chaperone.

It was the night of Serena's sixteenth birthday when she went to town with her friends for
the first time. Once they had finished their Friday classes, the four had rushed back to
their rooms to dress.

Giddy with excitement, Serena's fingers trembled as she clipped her long golden hair back.
She smoothed her short blue skirt and twirled around in front of her best friend.

"How do I look Molly?" Serena asked.

"Breath taking Serena!" Molly giggled. "Come on! Let's get going!"

The four girls entered a small cafe laughing. They each had several bags and they were
tired from all the shopping and excitement. They collapsed into a booth and set their bags
down.

"Oh wow Serena! I can't wait to see the guys at the next dance! That dress is going to be
a smashing hit!" Katherine exclaimed.

"I hope so!" Serena smiled. "Your sure it wasn't to short?"

"Oh Serena! What an innocent!" Shannon laughed. "It looked lovely."

"May I take your order?" A deep voice asked. The four girls looked up to see the most
gorgeous creature ever created standing at their table. He was tall, with a a well
muscled body. He wore a white t-shirt that seemed to hug his biceps. His dark blue
eyes peered out from under the deepest black hair.

"Yes, I'll have a strawberry milkshake, please." Serena ordered, the first to recover. She
smiled at him before turning to her friends. "Do you three want anything?"

"I'll have a chocolate milkshake." Molly told him.

"Iced tea please." Katherine managed to get out.

"Coke..." Shannon told him, still staring at him.

"All right. I'll be right back." The waiter told them.

"Yes, hurry!" Shannon called after pulling herself together.

"My God he's hot!" Katherine exclaimed.

"He's not my type though." Molly sighed.

"What do you mean, Molly?" Shannon asked.

"He seems too... I dunno... Bad." Molly shrugged. "He was wearing a tight white t-shirt
and black jeans. Toss in a leather jacket and he's the boy my mom warned me about."

"I know. That's what makes him so perfect." Shannon sighed dreamily.

"You three are all silly. He's way older than us and probably already has a girlfriend."
Serena told them.

"Nope, I'm single." He said, setting a strawberry milkshake in front of Serena. Serena
blushed and looked down.

"Thank you." She whispered. He laughed and set the other three drinks down.

"Can I get you anything else?" He asked.

"No thanks." Molly told him. He turned and left the four girls to their conversation.

"Serena! I think he likes you!" Shannon squealed as softly as possible.

"I don't think so." Serena sipped her milkshake.

"Oh Serena!" Katherine sighed. "He likes you."

"Well Katherine, Molly, we had better finish our drinks quick so that handsome young man
can have some quality time with Serena." Shannon told them, with a twinkle in her eye.

"What are you up to Shannon?" Serena asked, as the other three quickly finished their
drinks. "You want to leave?"

"Yes, Sere. We're leaving, but you are staying. We'll see you back at school later, and
you have to tell us everything!" Katherine exclaimed.

"Good luck Serena." Molly squeazed her hand before the three scooped up all their bags
and Serena's. They left the cafe and burst out giggling as they headed back towards their
school.

"Your friends seem to have abandoned you." Serena looked up to see the waiter smiling at
her.

"Yeah, they had to go." Serena replied.

"May I join you then? I'm on my break."

"Sure." Serena smiled.

"My name's Darien." He told her as he slipped into the booth across from her.

"I'm Serena." She offered her hand. Darien took her small hand into his and shook it.

"Do you go to school around here? I haven't seen you before." Darien commented.

"Yes, I go to a boarding school." Serena told him. "We aren't allowed to leave on our own
until we turn sixteen."

"So it's your birthday?" He asked her.

"Yes." She smiled shyly and looked at her milkshake. Darien smiled.

"What's your curfew?" Darien asked her suddenly.

"My curfew?" She repeated. "Eleven o'clock."

"Perfect. I get off at ten. Would you like to do something after? To celebrate your
birthday." He asked her. Serena was a little surprised, but she nodded her head.

"Great. I'll see you later then, Serena." Darien smiled as he stood up. "I have to get
back to work."

"Okay." Serena smiled at him and Darien headed towards another table to take more orders.
She took the opportunity to watch him as he worked. He seemed to have a cold demeanor
when dealing with the female customers. They seemed to fawn over him just the same.
Serena thought very little of it. She mostly sat there sipping her milkshake and
wondering what Darien had in mind for afterwards.

"Are you ready?" A voice asked near Serena's ear. She jumped and turned to see a nearly
laughing Darien.

"What's so funny?" She asked, stepping out of the booth.

"You." Darien took her hand and led her to the back of the store.

"Where are we going?" Serena asked, not pulling her hand from his.

"I need to grab a few things before we go." Darien told her and led her into the employees
lounge. Darien released her hand and went to his locker. He quickly turned the combination
lock and opened his locker. Serena watched wordlessly as he stuck his pen and paper in, but
she burst out laughing when he pulled out a leather jacket.

"What?" He asked this time.

"Oh..." Serena gasped out between laughs. "Molly said you would have a leather jacket!"

Darien raised an eyebrow at Serena as he put his jacket on.

"Did she?" Serena nodded. Darien reached back into his locker and pulled out two
helmets. He tossed one to Serena, who caught it deftly, but looked up at him confused.

"Put it on." He told her. Serena did so.

"I look foolish." She said as she flipped the front mask down.

"No, you look lovely. Come on." Darien put his helmet on and took Serena's hand. He led
her out the back doorway to where a motorcycle was parked.

"What do you think?" Darien asked proudly.

"I.. It.." Serena was speechless. He didn't expect her to ride that, did he?

"Here, get on." Darien helped her onto the back of the bike before climbing on in front of
her. "Hold on tight."

Serena threw her arms around his waist and clung to him as he pulled out from behind the
cafe. He sped out onto the road and drove fast. As his speed increased, Serena's arms
tightened around him.

Finally he slowed and turned into what looked like an abandoned beach. Darien climbed off
his bike and helped Serena off before he took off his helmet. Serena was shaking like a
leaf. It wasn't until then that Darien noticed just how delicate she was.

"Are you all right Serena?" He asked as he took her helmet off and cupped her face between
his hands.

"Yes.. I'm okay..." She told him, her voice trembling as well.

"Oh I'm sorry Serena!" Darien pulled her against him and hugged her tightly to calm her
down.

"It's all right, Darien. I'm all right." Serena told him, but she made no effort to get out
of his arms.

"Let's go sit." With one arm still around her, he led Serena to the edge of the sea. They
sat down and, impulsively, Serena took off her socks and shoes. She tossed them higher up
on the beach and dipped her toes into the water. Laughing, she splashed her feet into the
water. Darien laughed as well, and took off his shoes and socks. He got up and tossed
his jacket up with their shoes and socks. Darien bent down and scopped Serena up. She
screamed in surprise, especially when Darien ran out into the salty water.

"Don't put me down! Oh Darien don't!" Serena cried, clinging to him with all her might.
Darien just laughed and lowered her enough that her feet touched the water. Serena
shrieked.

"It' cold!"

"Is it?" Darien asked her. "Are you sure? I can put you further in..."

Darien leaned over and immersed her legs upto her knees.

"Darien!" Serena shouted, but her laughed rang out louder.

"Yes?" He asked.

"Put me down!" She told him. Without another word, Darien set her on her feet in the middle
of the ocean. Serena squealed.

"I didn't mean here! It's freezing!" Serena exclaimed. Darien wrapped his arms around her.

"Maybe I can warm you up a bit..." His voice trailed off as his lips met hers. Serena's
arms snaked up his chest and around his neck as Darien's arms held her tightly at the waist.
Small waves lapped at their legs, but neither noticed as they continued to kiss.
