Antai walked with me to the temple after school. Misao
and Migaru both went to Mugen Gakuen, but Antai and I
went to Juuban High School. I wasn't sure where Usagi
went.
"Are you alright Rei-chan?" Antai asked as we walked.
I glanced at her, and smiled slightly.
"Yeah, I guess." I replied. "Things are just so different
now..."
"Tell me about it!" Antai laughed. "I never thought
my cool hang out would be a temple."
"I never thought my temple would become a cool hang out."
I replied, with a smile.
We walked up the stairs, talking about the various
teachers and classes at school. Not suprising me in
the least, Ami was in all the advanced classes at the
school, and bored senseless in them.
"Hey you two!" Misao called as we walked towards
the building. She was sitting with Migaru waiting
for us.
"Have you seen Usagi or Mamoru?" Antai asked.
"Nope." Migaru chirped.
"Here we are." I turned to see Usagi and Mamoru standing
at the top of the stairs. Usagi was in front of Mamoru,
and his arms were tied in front of her.
"Hey you two." Migaru greeted.
"Hi, Usagi-chan, Mamoru-san." Misao smiled.
"How are you?" Antai asked.
"We're fine." Usagi smiled.
"Let's go into the Fire room, shall we?" I asked. The
others nodded and I led them into the thin walled room.
"I did a reading." I told them once everyone had settled
into a spot. "What we're facing... It's like nothing
we've ever seen before. It's coming at us, even as we
speak, but from all directions! It's coming from above
us, from below us, from everywhere!"
"What do you mean?" Mamoru asked.
"I don't really now how to explain it." I paused. "Have
you even been caught in a snow storm? It gets to a point
where you don't know which way is up and which way is done?"
"Yes..." Mamoru nodded.
"The enemy is going to hit as hard, as fast, and as
faceless." I replied. "As far as I can tell, there is
no way to beat them."
The others fell silent, staring at me in shock. I tried
to calm myself through breathing techniques, but it was
futile. The knowledge that we wouldn't be able to stop
a villain so powerful scared me.
"What are we going to do?" Migaru asked quietly.
"There's nothing..." I began.
"There is." Usagi interrupted. "We wouldn't have been
woken unless there was something we could do."
I looked up at Usagi, and slowly nodded.
"She's right." Antai spoke quietly. "There had to be
something we can do."
"But what?" Migaru asked.
"And how?" Misao added.
"What kind of attack is it going to be?" Mamoru asked.
"What do you mean 'kind'?" Misao asked.
"Physical, psychic, emotional, mental." Antai replied.
"I didn't notice anything different." I replied. "As far
as I can tell, it will be like any other youma we've
ever faced."
"Then maybe we should train?" Usagi suggested, looking
up at the other senshi. "We've been inactive for over
a thousand years now. We need to work out again."
"She's right." Misao nodded.
I was slightly surprised. Usagi had something...
different in this life. A calm maturity, almost...
I wasn't quite sure, but I knew I liked it, and
I knew it would serve her well.
"Definately." I glanced around. "When?"
"No time like the present." Antai stood up, holding
her pen. "Mercury Crystal Power Make-up!"
Blue light flooded the temple grounds. Soon
Sailormercury stood where Antai once had.
"It feels good to be back!" She smiled. Misao
needed no further encouragement.
"Jupiter Crystal Power Make-up!"
Taking her cue, Migaru stood and called out
her own transformation phrase.
"Venus Crystal Power Make-up!"
I too held up my pen and shouted my phrase. Once
we had all finished, Usagi and Mamoru continued
to stand there. I watched as Usagi pulled out her
brooch, and felt an intense pain as she said the
three words that would seal her fate.
"Moon Eternal Make-up!"
I shut my eyes against the nearly blinding light,
and felt angry that Sailormoon existed once more.
Hadn't she done enough? Hadn't she sacrificed
enough yet? I screamed mentally at any deity that
could hear me. Hadn't she suffered enough?
"Alright, you four try to catch me." Sailormoon
smiled. "I get Tuxedo Kamen on my side."
"Alright. We'll give you a 60 second head start."
Sailorvenus replied.
"Okay!" Sailormoon cried as she took off running,
Tuxedo Kamen at her heels. The two darted off into
the cherry trees, soon disappearing from view.
"I think that's long enough." Sailorjupiter said,
anxious to start.
"It's only been 45 seconds." Sailormercury replied.
"Who cares?" Sailorvenus asked with a giggle as she
took off after the two. Sailorjupiter, Sailormecury
and I were right behind her.
"Divide and conquer." I said quietly. The three knew
my tactic and quicky took off in the right directions.
I smiled with anticipation and continued to run as
quietly as I could through the forest.
I caught a glimpse of a blue skirt up head and I
dashed in closer.
"Mars Flame Sniper!" I called, launching the arrow.
A shriek pierced the air.
"Mars!" Sailormercury snapped at me.
"I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed, barely keeping the
laughter in. Somehow, Sailormoon had managed
to lead us in circles, confusing us. I was
impressed, but now that I was onto her plan, I
knew I could get her.
Several hours later, I dragged myself out of the forest
and onto the back porch of the temple. Battered
and bruised, I hurt everywhere.
"That was fun." Sailormoon said, sitting down
next to me.
"Of course you thought so." Sailorjupiter
snorted, nursing a bruised arm. "You weren't
the one who had your butt kicked."
"As I recall, neither were you." Sailormoon
giggled as she remembered the way Sailorjupiter
had accidentally kicked Sailorvenus.
"Funny." Sailorvenus sighed.
"We'd all better get home and soak." Sailormercury
powered down. "We're all going to be sore tomorrow."
"What are you talking about?" I asked. "I'm
sore now!"
"We'd better get going, Usako." Mamoru gently
placed hand on Sailormoon's waist, pulling her
closer. Sailormoon smiled, and powered down as
she snuggled against Mamoru.
"If you don't mind my asking, how did you two
meet?" I asked, curious if their meeting this time
was anything like their meeting last time.
"Well.." Usagi looked up at Mamoru and giggled.
"Mamo-chan used to live next door to me, so we've
known each other for a long time. When I was
twelve, he moved out and I didn't see him for
two years."
"One day, I ran into a gorgeous blonde and asked her
out. Little did I know, it was the same girl I'd
known forever!" Mamoru picked up the tale.
"He took me out to dinner and we had a marvelous
time.." Usagi sighed happily at the memory.
"Things just kinda took off from there." Mamoru
kissed her cheek tenderly. "This is the girl
I'm going to marry."
"Mamo-chan..." Usagi blushed and buried her face
in his chest.
"We'd better get going now. Usako's parents
are going to wonder where she is." Mamoru spoke
softly, his face near Usagi's ear. She giggled,
then sighed.
"I guess so... We'll see you all tomorrow? Same
time same place?" Usagi asked.
"Is everyone free?" I asked.
"Sure." Antai was still cradling her injured arm.
Misao nodded, and Migaru groaned.
"I don't want to be..." Then she smiled. "But I
am!"
"Great! I'll see you then!" Usagi bounced away
in Mamoru's arms. The two walked down the temple
stairs, as we watched them.
"They seem so happy..." Antai commented before
turning her attention elsewhere.
I stared at the space they had just occupied,
Antai's comment affecting me more than I wanted
it too. It cut deep down, because I knew their
happiness was hanging in the balance. And I
knew there was little I could do to save it.
