Darien pulled up in front of his house with Serena in the passenger seat.
She was gazing out the window and didn't seem to notice that the car had
stopped.

"We're here." Darien told her gently. Serena nodded her head slightly, but just
sat there. The doctors had warned him that the grief would probably make her
listless for a while. It was best that he let her be until she was ready to talk.

Sighing, Darien climbed out of the car and went around to her side. He opened the
passenger door and reached across to unbuckle her seat belt. He carefully untangled
it from her and helped her out of the car. He shut the door and led Serena inside.
She didn't say a word as he opened the door and brought her inside.

The pair were greeted by a maid who had been hired to help Serena. She had a
background as a nurse and was close enough to Serena's age that she wouldn't
have trouble relating.

"Hello. I'm Janine." She smiled.

"I'm Darien, and this is Serena." Darien still had an arm supporting Serena.

"Ah yes." Janine nodded.

"Serena, do you want to take a nap?" Darien asked her. Serena shrugged her shoulders.

"I think it would be best." Janine said.

"As do I. Come on, Serena. I'll take you to your rooms." Darien led Serena up the
staircase to a set of rooms near his own. He wanted to be close to her in case she
needed him.

"Here you go, Serena." Darien let go of her. Serena stood in the middle of her room
and suddenly burst out crying again. Immediately Darien was holding her again. He
wrapped his arms around her tightly while she cried. Darien picked her up and set her
gently on the bed, still holding her. Darien gently rocked her while she cried in his
arms. After a while, ths sobs subsided, and Darien looked down to see that she was
sleeping. He carefully laid her down on the bed and left the room. Janine followed
him.

"Sir? I don't mean to sound...rude or anything, but I think that as long as you are here,
you aren't going to need me. You seem to have already built up a trust with her, and
the time it would take me to do that... Well, it might only take her longer to heal."
Janine explained.

"You don't think you can help her?" Darien asked.

"No Sir. I don't thin I can."

"I appreciate your honesty. I'll take to Jed about giving you a bonus, but you are no
longer required here." Darien told her. Janine smiled.

"Best of luck to you both." She said before turning and leaving. Darien sighed and went
to his rooms. He lay down on the couch and put his arm across his eyes. He was
exhausted from the long hours he spent at the hospital. Slowly he drifted off to sleep.

Darien woke up to the screaming. Immediately he knew it was Serena. He jumped up and ran
down the hall to her suite. He threw open her door and raced to her side.

"Serena, Serena... Wake up!" Darien gently shook her as he called to her. Serena's eyes
flew open.

"Darien!" She gasped as he pulled her into his arms. "Oh Darien! It was awful! I felt
the car flipping... We rolled over and over and over..."

Again, Serena was sobbing in his arms. The grief racked her body, and she was trembling.

"I heard them screaming, Darien. Screaming and screaming. My mom was calling my name..."

"Oh Serena..." Darien couldn't think of anything to say to her to make her feel better.
There was nothing he could do. He felt so powerless.

Serena continued to cry as he held her.

"The car hit a tree... There was smoke everywhere... And it was cold, Darien. So cold..."
