I couldn’t figure it out. Mamoru obviously didn’t love me anymore. He’d made it
pretty clear on that fateful day in the park, five years ago. So why did it feel
so wrong to be wearing an engagement ring and to be planning my wedding to Motoki?
I asked myself. I never let on to anyone that I still cared about Mamoru. I couldn’t.
Rei would yell at me, telling me how baka* I was to still love him after so long.
Ami wouldn’t understand because there’s no ‘logical explanation’. Minako thinks it’s
wonderful I’m with Motoki. She’d be so mad if I broke it off with him. Mako… She
would probably understand. Why don’t I trust her enough to tell her? I do trust her,
but she might tell the others. Usagi! Forget him! Tomorrow you’re marrying another
man so forget Mamoru! I can’t , I realized. Oh! Why did I let my parents convince me
to spend my last night a single women at home? I should be in my own apartment, not
in my old room, so full of memories of Mamoru. Crying softly I changed into my pajamas.
Just as I had lay down on my bed Luna walked in. I smiled at her.

‘You need your sleep, Usagi-chan. After all, you’re getting married tomorrow.’ Luna
scolded as she curled up at the foot of my bed and fell fast asleep.

‘Maybe not, Luna, maybe not.’ I murmured as I began to enter a deep sleep.

Knock, knock, knock.

‘Who is it?’ I asked, hoping it was my friends and not my mother.

‘Me, honey’ my mother replied.

‘Oh, come in Mom,’ I replied. She walked into my room just as I was putting the
finishing touches on my dress.

‘Oh honey, you look beautiful!’ she sighed. ‘I can’t believe my little girl is growing up.’

‘Mom, could you do me a favor?’ I asked.

‘Sure, darling. What is it?’

‘Could you go get Mako-chan for me? And try not to let the other’s see, OK? I had
decided earlier in the morning that I would tell her that I still loved Mamoru,
and ask her for her help out of the wedding.

‘Sure thing, Usagi-chan’ my mother replied, as she rushed off to do my bidding.

A few minutes later I heard a gentle knock at my door.

‘Usagi-chan? It’s me. May I come in?’ Makoto asked. I walked over to the door and opened it.

‘Did the other’s see you come?’ I asked, stepping aside to let her in.

‘Yeah, your mom said you wanted to talk to me. What’s up?’ she asked, concerned.

‘Mako-chan, what I desperately need your help,’ I began. She began to look even more worried.

‘Mako-chan, what I’m about to tell you might be hard to believe, and you can’t tell the
others, but,’ I paused to calm myself. ‘I can’t go through with my wedding to Motoki
because I still love Mamoru.’ I glanced up at her expecting her to be surprised. She wasn’t.

‘I know, Usagi-chan. We all know. We were down their just now discussing what we were going
to say when we objected to the marriage.’ I looked up at her in surprise.

‘You were going to object to the wedding?’

‘Yep,’ she seemed so calm about it. ‘Do you want me to call the others?’

‘Yes, please. What were you going to say?’ I asked.

‘Ohm the usual. How you had another who was your true love, yadda yadda ya’ Makoto pulled
out her senshi* communicator and hit the everyone button. Seconds later, the other three
senshi were at my door.

‘Usagi-chan! What’s wrong?’ cried Rei, very worried.

‘I hear you were planning on objecting to my wedding’ I accused. The other’s looked down
sheepishly. Rei raised her head to object.

‘Thank you’ I said. The snapped their heads up in surprise.

‘Usagi….?’ Minako asked.

‘You are all right. I don’t love Motoki, but I do love Mamoru.’

‘Then we need to find a way out of the wedding’ concluded Ami.

‘Yes,’ agreed Makoto.

‘But only if..’ I began.

‘Only if what, Usagi-chan?’ Rei asked.

‘Only if Mamoru still loves me. I don’t want to hurt Motoki if it’s not necessary.’ I
whispered. Rei knelt down before me on my bed and gripped my shoulder’s, forcing me to
look at her.

‘There’s only one way to find out.’ She said. ‘Ami, go and get Mamoru. Don’t even mention
Usagi-s name. Get him quickly, and if possible, don’t let anyone else see.’

‘Right!’ Ami agreed.

‘Usagi-chan, ask him. No matter how hard you find it. Look him in the eyes and ask him, OK?’

‘Yes Rei-chan’

‘You’ll be OK,’ comforted Makoto.

‘You’re strong, a fighter and a survivor’ said Minako, gently hugging me.

‘We’ll wait outside. Good luck, Usagi-chan’ Rei whispered as she gently kissed my cheek
and embraced me. She left the room after the others.

‘Well,’ began Rei. ‘We had better go tell Motoki the weddings off.’

‘WHAT!!!!!!’ exclaimed Minako. ‘What if the impossible has occurred and Mamoru doesn’t
love Usagi-chan?’

‘He does. He told me. That’s why I suggested we object to the wedding in the first place.
Mamoru told me he couldn’t bare to watch Usagi-chan marry another man. After that, I began
watching Usagi-chan for signs to see if she still loved Mamoru. I found none, so I asked
the great fire, because I suspected that she might still love him. Neither one knows of
the other’s love, nut the fire said they’d be together in the end.’ Finished Rei.

‘WE wait for Ami to come back and make sure M ‘What is so important, Ami-chan? Why did
you bring me here?’ Mamoru asked.

‘Mamoru, your destiny lies through that door’ she replied, motioning to Usagi’s door.

‘What?’ he asked.

‘Go’ Minako said. He nodded and gently knocked on Usagi’s door.

~~

I kept getting more and more nervous. Just remember, I thought to myself, you’re a
fighter and a survivor, just like Minako-chan said. I turned as I heard a gentle knock
at the door.

‘Come in.’ I called. Slowly the door opened revealing Mamoru dressed in a
(drum roll please) TUXEDO!!!!!!!!!!

‘Usagi-chan’ he said.

‘Mamoru-san, please come in’ I replied.

‘Usagi-chan, you look beautiful’

‘Thank you,’ I said, turning to my window. I saw Motoki outside and the scouts slowly
approaching him. Wait a minute! I told them to wait. Is this a sign? Do they already
know if he loves me? They must if they’re breaking up the wedding but…. Motoki turned
to the scouts and greeted them warmly, blissfully unaware of the news they had for him.
I turned back to Mamoru, unable to watch as they told him his beloved, his would-be-wife,
didn’t love him.

‘Mamoru, I have an important question for you,’ I began. I slowly walked over to him.

‘Mamoru,’ I said again. ‘ Do you love me?’

Mamoru looked at me. We were silent for what seemed like an eternity. Then slowly Mamoru
reached his hand to my face and said

‘Yes Usagi-chan, Usako, I love you now, as I did then and as I always will,’ and we
kissed to the sound of Motoki’s anguished cries.
