Serena stood at the window, watching for Darien. It had started
raining again, and the raindrops hit the window with the gently
pitter patter of a kitten's feet. Serena let the curtain fall
as she turned away. It had been three hours since Darien had
run after Raye. She was beginning to get worried about him.

"Serena? Are you all right?" Nathan asked.

"Hmm? Yeah, sure." Serena replied, smiling slightly. Nathan
continued to watch her as she sank into one of the wing back
chairs in the living room.

"What happened?" Nathan asked, having a pretty good idea.

"What do you think happened, Nathan? You always seem to know..."
Serena let her voice trail off as her gaze gravitated back towards
the window.

"Did Raye walk in on you two?" Nathan asked. Serena nodded
mindlessly. Nathan didn't say anything more. He just
continued to sit there, providing comfort to Serena by being
there. A few minutes later a set of headlights could be seen
pulling up into the driveway.

"Don't tell him I was worried." Serena said suddenly. "Don't
let him know I was sitting here waiting for him."

Nathan nodded at the urgency in Serena's voice. With a smile
of gratitude, she raced up the stairs to her wing of the house.
She went into her art room and put a new canvas in the frame.
Serena quickly poured some paints on the palette and began to
paint a new picture. Listening for the footsteps that would
signify Darien approaching, Serena painted the view from the
window she had been standing at for the past three hours. She
painted the trees that lined the end of the expansive lawn, and
she added the tips of black fence that peeked out from behind
the trees. She painted the long gray driveway that wove its way
towards the house. In the center of the midnight green lawn, she
painted a lone figure, drenched, whose only distinguishable
features, were his indigo eyes.

Serena had become so involved in the painting, that she forgot
about listening for Darien. She hadn't noticed when he had
opened the door and stood there, watching her.

Serena stood staring at the painting, with her paint brush still
in her hand. She seemed to be staring at the piercing blue eyes
of the figure. Darien understood the picture, for there was
no mistaking those eyes. They were his eyes. The figure was him.

It was the way Serena wanted him. On the outside of her life,
looking in. He brought storms of emotion to her life and she
wanted him to be nothing but an observer of her existence. He
understood, but he could not, would not, accept it.

Darien strode towards her with the intent of showing her the
calm after the storm. He wanted her to see what life could be
like, what the love could, and would, feel like.

Serena finally noticed Darien as he took the palette and
paintbrush from her, and set them aside. She also noticed
that he was drenched from the rain.

"Darien..." She whispered. He reached for her, but Serena moved
away. She picked up the paintbrush and carefully stepped to the
back of the room. She began washing the paint out as she spoke to
him.

"Did you find Raye?" She asked. Darien watched her carefully.

"Yes."

"Is she all right?" Serena continued to focus on cleaning the brush.

"Yes." Darien replied.

"That's good." Serena said softly. She never looked up from the
task of washing the paint away. Darien continued to watch her until
he was sure the paintbrush was clean. Still, Serena insisted on staying
as far from him as possible.

Finally, Darien decided to stop it.

'This is crazy!' He though. 'I love her!'

Darien strode towards her again. Roughly, he shut the water off and
grabbed the paintbrush from Serena's now trembling hand. He threw
the brush across the room and turned her to face him. Serena looked
up at him, her eyes showing the fear she felt. Darien's stormy eyes
met hers ruthlessly. Serena tried to look away, tried to avoid the
raw emotion in his eyes, but Darien caught her chin in his hand and
forced her to look at him.

"Serena..." His voice was husky as he said her name. He leaned
forward and kissed her with all the passion he felt for her.
Serena's eyes widened, before shutting tightly and giving in to
the kiss.
