Darien was in his study under the pretense of working. Really, he
was analysing is feelings for Serena. At least he was trying to.
'Do you think you are in love with her?' He asked himself. 'Do you
think you would have a chance if you were?'
The question upset himself more than he wanted to admit.
'Mari certainly thought you were, and Nathan does as well. Also,
there's the fact that you can't stand the mere thought of anything
bad happening to her. Look how much you lost control when she got
sick!' Darien began tapping his pen on the desk. 'Then there is
the fact that she is the most gorgeous creature you have ever
seen.'
Sighing Darien set his pen down and began fiddling with some papers.
'Last night she looked amazing in that shirt... Hey! That was my shirt!
She still has that...?' Darien smiled at the thought. 'She's really
changed recently. She smiles moe and laughs! Oh her laughter is
amazing...'
Darien had a goofy smile stretched across his face.
'I wonder what she really thinks of me though. Do I stand
a chance with her? Could I actually tell her how I feel?
Why is love so confusing?' Darien was ready to scream when
he heard someone knocking on his door. "Enter."
"Darien? Thanks for letting me have my friends over last night."
Serena smiled.
"No problem." Darien told her, returning the smile.
"What are you doing?" Serena asked, sitting on the edge of his desk.
"Uhh.. Nothing really." Darien replied. Serena laughed.
"Then why are you cooped up in here?" She asked.
"Just thinking."
"And you can't think outside? The weather is absolutely gorgeous!"
Serena exclaimed, jumping off his desk. "Come on! Go get your swimming
trunks on and come out side with me, okay?"
"All right." Darien stood up laughing. "I'll meet you outside in a few minutes,
okay?"
"Okay. If you don't come out, I'll hunt you down!" Serena threatened, her
eyes sparkling brightly. Darien laughed.
"I'll be there!" Darien promised, before going up the stairs to change. He
came outside and found Serena waiting for him.
"I brought some towels and sunscreen." Darien held up a bottle.
"Great!" Serena said. She slipped her sun dress off to reveal a black bikini.
She unclipped her hair so that it fell free. Darien dropped the towels and
sunscreen.
"Is something wrong?" Serena asked.
"Nothing..." Darien choked out.
"Okay." Serena shrugged and picked up the sunscreen. She quickly put it on her
arms and legs.
"Darien? Do think you could get my back?" Serena asked, handing him the
sunscreen. Darien nodded numbly and took the sunscreen. Serena sat down
on the lounge chair. Darien squirted it onto his hand and, with trembling
hands, began to rub it on Serena's back.
"Thanks." She smiled when he was finished. "Here. I'll do yours now."
Darien pulled off his shirt and turned around to let Serena put the sunscreen
on him. Serena squirted the sunscreen right onto his back and laughed when
Darien squirmed. She began to massage the cream into his shoulders and back.
When she had finished, Serena stood up.
"What were you thinking about, earlier?" Serena asked.
"Hmmm? Oh! Nothing in particular." Darien shrugged. He stood up and went to
the edge of the pool. Just as he was about to dive in, Serena pushed him. He
fell into the pool with a huge splash. Serena laughed as she stood near the edge
of the pool. Darien came up sputtering and brushed his hair back.
"You looked so funny!" Serena exclaimed.
"Did I?" Darien asked. Suddenly he reached out and grabbed Serena's ankle,
pulling her into the pool as well. A shocked Serena surfaced and splashed
a wave of water at Darien, starting a water fight. Darien splashed water back
at Serena, who ducked under the surface of the water. She swam away from him and came
up, closer to the wall in the deep end.
"Think you can get away?" Darien asked. He dove under the water and swam at her legs.
Serena tried to side step him, but Darien anticipated which way she was going to go
and he grabbed her legs. Serena screamed and fell forward, landing on Darien. Darien
rolled over and Serena fell into the pool. Serena came up ready to get revenge.
"You infuriate me!" Serena cried as she dove at an unexpecting Darien. Automatically,
Darien's arms went around her, but the water threw him off balance. Darien and
Serena fell into the deep end together. They came up laughing, with Darien's arms
still around Serena.
"There goes all our hard work putting on sunscreen." Serena gasped out between
laughter.
"It's okay. I don't mind putting it on again." Darien told her. Serena looked into
his eyes and froze. She realized exactly how tightly he was holding her. Darien
gazed into Serena's eyes and found himself drowning in two pools of emotion. Serena
felt like she was staring into the endless night sky. They continued to stand there,
in each others arms, until a bolt of lightening flashed across the sky.
