As I ran from the phone booth outside of Darien's apartment, tears blinded my view. To add to that, it had
started to rain. As each bolt of thunder crashed and
each flash of lightening flashed, I screamed. I ran past my
house, straight to Raye's temple. I needed her now.

When I arrived at the Hikawa Shrine, I opened the door and
saw Raye, Chad and Grampa talking. I gently knocked and
called Raye's name. She looked up in surprise and seemed
slightly angry.

"Not now, Seren... Oh my God! What's wrong?" She
asked jumping up and running to me. She took my hand
and led my inside. She wrapped a towel around me and
again asked me what was wrong. All I could respond was

"Darien..."

"Darien? What about Darien? Serena please! Tell me" I heard the desperation creep into her voice.

"He dumped me..." I choked out.

She gasped.

"Oh Serena!" Then she hugged me. She just held me to
her, gently rocking me, and whispered soothing words. No
one would have guessed that I would go to Raye not that
she would be so understanding, but I did and she was. She
suggested that I spend the night there. I told her my parents
didn't know where I was. She told me not to worry, she'd
take care of everything. She left me alone for a few minutes
while she went to call my parents. When she came back, he
smiled.

"It's alright with them." She said. She had brought come
tea, muffins and dry clothes. I quickly changed into the dry
clothes and drank the hot tea. That night, I was very
thankful I was with her. She held me and rocked me as I
cried myself to sleep, whispering.

"Serena, you're not alone, you're not alone."

Shortly after she thought I had fallen asleep, she whispered more.

"You're not the first to fall asleep crying over a heart
broken by Darien. No, you're not alone. I know, because
I've done it so often before...."

She was quiet after that. She never knew I had heard her
say that. I never let on, because I knew how ashamed she'd
be if she knew I knew her secret. But ever since that day,
I've been more sensitive to her and loved her even more.
We are the best of friends and always will be. I don't know
if I can ever repay her for her love and generosity, but I
shall try, even if it takes me a life time.

You are not Alone: Raye's Story

~~~
It was raining hard.  I was talking to Grampa and Chad
when I heard someone knock and call my name.  I looked
up surprised.  When I saw it was Serena, I got angry.
"Not now Seren...."  I stopped when I saw her more fully.  She was soaking wet, tears streaming down her face.  She looked as though someone had just told her the world was
going to end tomorrow and there was nothing even she
could do about it.  I jumped up.
"Oh my God!  What's wrong?"  I took her hand and pulled
her inside, closing the door after her.  I wrapped a towel
around her and again asked her what was wrong.  She only
whispered
"Darien."
"What about Darien?  Serena please!"  I tried not to let the
desperation creep into my voice.  Finally, she replied.
"He dumped me."  I gasped.
"Oh Serena!"  She mist have felt awful.  She loved him so
much...  I hugged her and rocked her whispering soothing
words.  I was surprised that she had come to me and not
Amy.  She must have thought I'd be more understanding,
but why?  I'm never anything but mean to her.  Well, what
ever it was that convinced her to come here, Thank you!
"Maybe you should stay here tonight."  I suggested.
"My parents don't know where I am."  She replied.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of it."
I left the room to call her parents and get something hot for
her to drink.  It didn't take long to convince them to let her
stay.  I got some tea, muffins and some of my clothes for
her to wear.  When I got back, I told her her parents had
said ok.
I gave her the clothes and tea.  She quickly changed and
drank the tea.
That night I held her, rocking her to sleep whispering.
"Serena, you're not alone, you're not alone."  Once she had
cried herself to sleep, I whispered some more.
"You're not the first to fall asleep over a heart broken by
Darien.  No, you're not alone.  I know, because I have done
it before."
I often wonder if she had heard me, because ever since that
night she's been more sensitive and loving.  We became the
very best of friends and sometimes, I get the feeling that
she's trying to repay me for something.  I hope she's not
because she's given me her love and friendship and for that,
I will forever more be in her debt.
