Serena deposited her books in her locker, preparing herself for her last
class of the day.
"Well, if it isn’t little Sere." A cool voice called. Serena looked up
to see a tall girl dressed in black walking towards her. The air of
danger that surrounded her was unmistakable.
"Adrienne!" Serena screamed as she launched herself at the dark haired girl.
Adrienne laughed.
"Gee, Sere..."
"I’ve missed you so much!" Serena cried. "I can’t believe you are back!"
"Well, I am. I got back last night." Adrienne said as Serena turned
back to her locker. Serena pulled out plastic bag.
"That’s so cool!" Serena exclaimed. Her eyes shone happily.
"What class do you have now?" Adrienne asked.
"Drama with the Dreaded One." Serena replied. Adrienne laughed.
"I would love to meet this guy, Sere." Adrienne leaned gracefully against
the row of lockers.
"Well, he’s having a party this Friday. Aurora got me roped into co-
hosting it with him. I guess that means I can invite you, right?"
Serena suggested.
"What time is it?" Adrienne asked.
"7:00, at Darien’s place. You know where that is, don’t you?" Serena
asked as the two headed towards her drama class.
"Who couldn’t?" Adrienne asked sardonically. Serena laughed.
"Aurora and I are going to shop tonight for new clothes. Want to come?"
Serena asked. "I want to catch up, and I’m sure Aurora will too."
"I know! I’ve been in Europe far too long. It’s nice to be back."
Adrienne said, smiling. "I’ll meet you at your locker after this
class, okay?"
"Yeah. Oh, by the way. See that dark haired jer.. I mean guy behind
you? The one with the suit in his hand? That’s Darien." Serena said.
Adrienne turned to glance around.
"Wow Sere!" Adrienne exclaimed. "He’s hot."
Serena shook her head sadly as Darien headed towards them.
"Hey Serena! Are you ready for our presentation today?" Darien asked.
"Oh hi."
"Hello." Adrienne said, offering her hand. "I’m Adrienne Jonson."
"It’s nice to meet you." Darien shook her hand politely before turning
back to Serena. "We should get going. Mr. Poz will be furious if
we’re late."
"Yeah, I’m coming." Serena sighed, as Darien went into the room. "He
is not hot."
"Whatever you say. Why are you working with him if you don’t like
him?" Adrienne asked.
"The teacher paired us, and to make it worse, it’s a love scene!"
Serena exclaimed. "I should get going. I’ll see you later."
"Bye Sere." Adrienne waved and took off down the hall. Serena
followed Darien into the classroom.
"Mr. Poz? Can we go change for our presentation?" Darien asked.
"Sure. Don’t take too long." Mr. Poz replied.
Darien and Serena took off out of the classroom. Serena headed towards
the bathroom to put on her dress. She quickly changed out of her black
flares and white blouse into a dress. The dress she put on was a pale
blue, almost white, empress style dress. There were golden crescent moons
adorning the hem, that was just above her knees. Serena brushed her hair and
left it down. When she stepped out of the bathroom, Darien was waiting for
her, in a tuxedo.
"You look amazing!" Darien exclaimed, offering his arm in a gentlemanly
fashion.
"We should get back. I want to get this over with." Serena headed back
to the room, ignoring his proffered arm. Darien followed her without a
word.
"Are you two ready?" Mr. Poz asked, as Serena re-entered the class.
"Yes Sir." Darien nodded.
"Alright! Create an audience everyone." The class quickly dragged all
the chairs to one end of the classroom and sat down. Serena took a
deep breath, before stepping forward to start the scene.
"Is it true? What I’ve heard, the rumors. Are they true?" Serena
asked, as she clasped her hands in front of her. Darien stepped forward
in his tuxedo, and gently placed his hands on her shoulders.
"What you’ve heard, are just rumors, and nothing more." Darien spoke
to her softly. "Nothing is going to happen, love. Nothing is going to
ruin this for us!"
"Oh Endymion! I just want to throw myself in your arms until this
all goes away!" Serena sobbed as Darien pulled her closer to him. He
wrapped his arms around her tightly and buried his face in her hair.
"Sere! Oh darling Sere! Don’t cry. Nothing will happen to you. I
swear! I’ll protect you."
Darien looked down into her face, a gentle love filling his eyes.
Serena slowly brought her two hands up in front of him.
"I want you to have this. It will remind you of our love." She handed
him her star locket. "Mother told me you have to return to Earth."
"If you want me to stay..." Darien began.
"I do! I do! Stay with me Endymion! It will be safe here." Serena
looked up at him. Her blue eyes shone earnestly.
"But it’s not fair, Endy. I can’t ask you to stay. You have to go
back, and protect your people. They need as much, or more, than I." Darien
reached his hand up to cradle her cheek. "I’m so afraid for you."
"Serenity, what ever happens, I want you to know, you are in my heart
always." Darien told her, his lips only centimeters from hers.
"And you in mine..." Serena whispered as his lips met hers. The applause
was thunderous, especially for a class of twenty two. Serena quickly
broke away from Darien before he could really kiss her. Darien kept
his eyes on her while she faced the class.
"That was excellent. The emotion was just astounding!" Mr. Poz exclaimed.
"Would you care to tell us the background behind your skit?"
"It’s part of the legend of the Princess of the Moon." Serena replied.
"Her one true love is about to go fight the Evil Queen on Earth.
That’s what they think, anyway. What really happens isthe Evil Queen tries
to kill the Moon Princess, and her love, the Prince of Earth, dies
saving her. She ends killing herself because she can’t live without him."
Serena replied.
"What’s your take on the legend, Darien?" Mr. Poz asked.
"I think they both died tragically, but necessarily. He had to
protect his Princess, or die trying. She had to follow him into
death because he was her strength. Her strength lay in love."
Darien ran his hand through his hair.
"Do you agree?" the teacher asked Serena.
"For the most part, yes."
"Does anyone else have any questions or comments?" the teacher asked.
"Yeah, I was wondering where all that emotion, and love, came from.
Possibly hidden feelings you have for each other?" Andrew asked.
Serena looked at her friend. Her blue eyes were as cold as ice.
"An actor knows how to take any emotion, twist it into the one they want
and project it. Hate can easily be changed into love." Serena’s voice
was as icy and cold as her eyes.
"I was really impressed with the innocence you projected, Serena." One
of the girls in the class commented. Serena smiled at her, warmly.
"Thanks." Her eyes were no longer cold, but warm and friendly.
"Okay, you two can have a seat now and we’ll continue with our skits."
Mr. Poz said. Serena quickly went and sat next to Andrew. Darien
Followed her and sat on the other side of his best friend.
"Thanks a lot, Andrew." Serena hissed in his ear as the next group set
up. Andrew looked at her and laughed.
"That dress looks gorgeous on you, Sere. Are you coming to the party
on Friday?" Andrew asked.
"Yeah, she is. She’s even co-hosting it with me." Darien cut in.
Serena glared at him.
"I’m perfectly capable of answering for myself, thank you so much."
"You three keep quiet." Mr. Poz said as the next group began to
present.
