Our big vacation of 2002 was to Turkey. We had an excellent time. We landed in Istanbul
and spend a couple of days there. Cappadocia was our next stop. We spend several days
there exploring the homes and churches that are carved into the rock. The landscape was
simply surreal. Finally we went to the coast. The weather was great. The water was an
amazing blue. I have separated the pictures into three groups:

Here are the first, but not the last, carpet salesmen that we ran into. We had only been
in Turkey for 1 hour. The gave us a tour of the mosque under the pretext of wanting to
practice english. The tour was actually fairly informative. After the tour they invited
us to tea. We were suspicious of a sales pitch, but went anyway. The apple tea was good.
After tea, they showed us rugs from all over Turkey. It was also informative. After many
polite "no thank you's", we escaped.

This baklava shop in the egyptian spice market had the best baklava in Turkey.
I can say this because I ate baklava every day for the 20 days that we were in
Turkey.
