Chapter Twelve - An Interlude (in which everything happens, though it often doesn't appear to and could actually be mistaken as a chapter in which absolutely nothing happens. This is usually caused by an error in judgement on the part of the reader, and is in no way to be regarded as a failure on the part of the management. The management is hard working and rather good, and should be given lots of flowers and kisses. This is a pivotal chapter in the book, during which Peter-Bowman finally comes to terms with his work of life. It is a magnificent event that should not be missed by anybody, but in fact should be re-read at least five times before moving on. Otherwise you will fail to get it, and have to go to work germ free. This would be a disaster, I'm sure you will agree. Read this chapter very, very, very carefully. Don't say that you haven't been warned).
