First known version of the now-standard hand weapon, this was a small, easily-concealed firearm carried by landing parties. Capable of a variety of settings and beam widths. Carried on diplomatic or low-risk missions. |
Energy projector/artiller weapon. This weapon isn't actually named in the episode, it's merely mentioned as channelling the ship's engine power into a blue beam; the damage it causes cannot be assessed - as Talosian mind control prevents the operators from seeing any damage at all! The Enterprise's first officer (an unnamed Lieutenant) says it should cut straight through the rock formation they're aiming at; later when the mind control has been removed this is seen to be largely true, with a great deal of charring of the remaining rock. |

Comprising a Type-I phaser with a pistol-grip attachment containing a power pack (the whole pistol handle), this featured a wider range of settings and beams. Carried openly by security personnel, and by all crewmembers on hazardous missions. |
Man-portable artillery piece held in Starfleet arsenals. When firmly seated on the ground, range and azimuth can be adjusted using a control on the side of the weapon. As with a mortar, the grenade is simply dropped down the tube to prime and fire. |
Bulky and cinsidered extremely powerful at the time, only issued in unusual circumstances. Notable for its large prefire chamber. |
