The Dance Hall
The Dance Hall was built along the northern boundary of the hotel property
behind the Saloon on the lane that ran out to the beach. I think it was
built by John Evans about 1875. It is about 20' by 50' and has a lean-to
on the west end that was a stage. Not as grandiose and large as some, but
a real stage non the less. It was the site of Saturday nite dances,
Independance Day celebrations, and Christmas festivals back when San
Gregorio was a real little town with real community spirit.
We have a photo from back when it was lighted with gas lamps. We will try
to get it scanned and up here soon.
Right now it is the resting place for the flag pole that goes in front of
the hotel, the original bar and back bar that was in the saloon, one of
the wallflower benches is still there as well as the original hotel safe
and registration desk.
The dance hall was originally built to be used by the community. SGHPF
plans to dedicate this building as a community center.
