TOMACHER RACEWAY OPEN MEETING 2003
Our 2003 open meeting on 22/23 November was the final round of the 1/24 BOC (British Open Championship). It proved a very enjoyable week end's racing. It must have been one of the wettest week ends of the year outside, but that did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm inside with plenty of very close racing from some of the fastest drivers in the country.

Saturdays racing started after the World Rugby final (and for sure we
were all in good spirits after that!) with Brian Galpin taking top
qualifying from Brian Saunders by just 0.019 seconds.
In the final Brian G won from Brian S (who has been delayed by a gear change) with Lee Parsons third. Young Will Stemman gained his best result ever at this level with a mature drive to 4th place. Fifth place many John Wells put in a great run in the C final, while B final winner Andy Smith came 6th overall. Here's the winning car - this win also gave Brian Galpin the production class BOC title. |

The third and fastest class was Eurosport. The C final
(Left) produced a close race, Chris Frost (right) taking 5th overall from
Mario (far left) in 6th on the same lap. The B final was won by John
Wells to take a superb third overall. Brian Galpin top qualified and
won by a comfortable margin. The result could well have been
different if Vince Lee hadn't been delayed by a wire off, - as it was
Vince was second some 11 laps behind, while A finalist Andy Smith took 4th
overall.

"This may read like an Oscar winning acceptance speech, but some noteable thank yous must be posted. Thankyou to Steve and Neil for hosting and running a very smooth weekends racing for the Championship finale ( about time you boys stepped out of your own backyard and come racing with us), also thank you to Bob Errington for running the quick stuff on Sunday with great authority. Thanks to Brian for setting up what must have been the most envied Eurosport in the field (it would have won in superior hands). Thanks to the KK Thai in Boscombe for a superb banquet. Thanks to the other JW for ..... the Aussies. The Eurosport B final was billed as being the crashfest of the year, thanks to Will, Chris, Gibbo, Ian and Reedy for producing an amazingly clean race. Congratulations to B for Boring Saunders for winning yet another championship. Regrets that Woody couldn#t make, Charlie not competing on the Sunday ( if their is a problem with the regs, can we please get them sorted) and sadly John Penn not making Sunday due to a family illness. I hope we will all be able to return to Wildfieds in JAN 2004 for more of the quickest racing in the UK." John Wells
The top 12 positions in each class - the full results will be published in Slot Car Racing News.
