Annecy

Annecy is one of those beautiful French towns, still preserving part of its medieval atmosphere. Located on the shore of the beautiful Lac d'Annecy, and surrounded by mountains, the historical city centre is traversed by multiple canals crossed by picturesque bridges populated by masses of tourists during the day.

The city is a convenient place where to stop when coming from Chamonix to Grenoble. I felt one morning was sufficient to visit most of the city attractions, but if weather allows it you should not miss a relaxing drive in a rented motor or paddle boat on the lake. Places you must see are: the lake, the canals, and the historical buildings along the canals. Wandering along the medieval Rue Sainte-Claire along the main canal while taking a genuiene Italian ice cream is probably the most attractive activitiy in the city.

The city is plenty of restaurants and tourist shops; some of them located in beautiful sceneries. It is also easy to find more special places where to buy wax candles, handmade crafts, fruits and groceries from the area, etc. Restaurants overlooking the canals are most demanded, but are not necessarily the best. Rather on the contrary they are mostly typical for tourists.
