No, where I live in Calgary, Alberta is NOT near Toronto, Ontario! Toronto is about 2,000 miles to the east, or over 3,200 kms. Toronto is Canada's largest city, with a population of about 3.2 million. Small in number by American cities rating, but nevertheless it is a large city.
If you forget where the locations of Calgary and Toronto is, go back to my Map of Canada and look to the west north of Montana is Alberta, and North of Ohio is Toronto. I'll have more links as time goes on, but for now, here a some quick pictures of the CN Tower in Toronto. I believe it is the worlds tallest free standing structure. (Note, I didn't say office building)
I was just on a recent trip to Toronto, and will have new pictures uploaded here, plus a short story of my stay there. I went to check out the "Toronto Blessing" and got it!
Here's a funny diary of a South African visiting Toronto:
19th, (didn't say which month - probably February)
Its started snowing. The first real snow I've seen here! I took out some
buttered buns and sat by the window watching the soft snow flakes drift
down, clinging to the trees and covering the ground. It was beautiful.
20th
Woke to a lovely blanket of crystal white snow covering the landscape.
What a fantastic sight! Every tree and shrub was covered by a beautiful
white mantle. I shovelled snow for the first time, and loved it. I did
both the driveway and the pavement. Later, the city snowplough came
along and accidentally covered the driveway with the compacted snow from
the street, but the driver smiled and waved - I waved back and
shovelled again.
21st
It snowed an additional five inches last night and the temperature
dropped to around minus 20 degrees. Several limbs on the trees and
shrubs snapped due to the weight of the snow. I shovelled the driveway
again. Shortly afterwards the snowplough man came by and did his trick
again. Much of the snow is now brownish grey.
22nd
Warmed up enough during the day to create some slush, which soon
turned to ice when the temperature dropped again. Bought snow tyres for
the car. Fell on my arse in the driveway. $200 for the chiropractor,
but nothing broken. More snow and ice is expected.
23rd
Still cold. Sold car and bought 4x4 in order to get to work. Slid into
the guard-rail and inflicted considerable damage to the rear quarter of
the car. Had another six inches of white stuff last night, car covered
in snow and crud. More shovelling in store for me again. That bloody
snowplough came by twice today.
24th
Minus 27 degrees C outside. More stinking snow. Not a tree or a shrub on
the property that hasn't been damaged. Power was off most of the night,
tried to keep from freezing to death with candles and a paraffin heater,
which tripped out and nearly burned the bloody house down. I managed to
put the flames out, but suffered second degree burns to my hands and
lost all eyebrows and eyelashes. Car slid on the way to the emergency
room and was written off.
25th
Stupid stinking white stuff keeps coming down! Have to put on all the
clothes that I have just to get to the post-box. If I ever catch the
sonofadonkey that drives that oversized snowplough, I'll claw open his
chest and rip his heart out! I think he hides around the corner and
waits for me to finish shovelling, then he comes down the street at
about 100mph and buries the driveway again. Power still off. The toilet
has frozen over and part of the roof has started to cave in.
26th
Six more inches of stupid snow and stupid ice and crap who knows what
the kind of stupid crap fell last night. I wounded the retarded
snowplough arsehole with an ice pick, but the turkeybutt got away. The
car won't start and I think I'm going snowblind. I can't move or feel my
toes, and haven't seen the sun in weeks, and there's more dumb snow
predicted. Wind-chill factor 33 stinking degrees below zero! I'm
moving back to South Africa!!
Editor's Note: Too bad this bloke didn't visit Calgary, where we have wonderful chinooks to break up winter!
