AR 670-1

 

1.  What is the DA policy in body piercing?

A.  No attaching, affixing or displaying objects, articles, jewelry or ornamentation to or through the skin while in uniform, in civilian clothes while on duty, or in civilian clothes off duty on any military installation or other places under military control except for earrings for females as in paragraph 1-14c AR 670-1

 

2.  Are backpacks and shoulder bags authorized to wear while in uniform.

A.   Yes, commercial rucksacks, gym bags, or like articles may be worn over the shoulder while in uniform.   Backpacks may also be worn over the shoulder when riding bicycle or motorcycle.   All items worn over the shoulder must be black with no LOGOS. 

 

 3. Which regulation prescribes the authorization for wear, composition, classification of uniforms, and occasions for wear for all personal, optional and common work related organizational Army uniforms?

A. AR 670-1

 

4. What are Class C uniforms?

A. Class C uniforms are utility, field and other organizational uniforms such as, hospital duty and food service uniforms.

 

5. In addition to AR 670-1, what regulation could you find information on exceptions to appearance standards based on religious practices?

A. (1) AR 600-200, Chapter 5.

 

6. Where may religious skullcaps be worn?

A. Religious skullcaps of plain design and standard color that do not exceed 6 inches in diameter can be worn while in living quarters, indoor dining facilities, and worship service locations. Skullcaps may be worn by chaplains at all times.

 

7. When is the wearing of a wig or hairpiece by male personnel in uniform or on duty authorized?

A. The wearing of a wig or hairpiece by male personnel in uniform or on duty is prohibited except to cover natural baldness or physical disfigurement caused by accident or medical procedure.

 

8. Can a female soldier wear a wig?

A. Yes, wigs may be worn as long as the hairpiece is of natural hair color, and the style and length conform to appearance standards.

 

9. What are the standards for female soldiers who wear hair-holding ornaments (barrettes, pins, clips)?

A. Hair-holding ornaments must be transparent or similar in color to the hair and be inconspicuously placed. Beads or similar ornamental items are not authorized.

 

10.  Articles such as wallets, combs, keys and checkbooks may be carried in pockets as long as they do not what?

A. They may not protrude from the pocket or present a bulky appearance.

 

11. Is it a regulation or tradition that personnel must not place hands in pockets other than retrieving articles?

A. It is a regulation.

 

12. Must soldiers wear undergarments with all uniforms?

A. Yes, appropriate undergarments will be worn with all uniforms.

 

13. When may commercial rucksacks, gymbags or like articles be worn while in uniform?

A. They may be worn while riding a bicycle or motorcycle.

 

14. Is a female soldier required to wear headgear with the Mess, Army Blue or enlisted Green Uniform if attending an evening event?

A. No.

 

15. Can a conservative tie tack or tie clasp be worn with the black four-in-hand necktie?

A. Yes.

 

16. IAW AR 670-1, describe the standards for the grooming of a male soldiers hair.

A. 1) The hair on top of the head will be neatly groomed.

2) The length or bulk of the hair will not be excessive or present a ragged, unkept or extreme appearance.

3) Hair will present a tapered appearance and when combed will not fall over the ears, eyebrows or touch the collar, except for the closely cut hair at the back of the neck.

4) The blockcut fullness in the back is permitted in moderate degree as long as the tapered look is maintained.

5) In all cases, the bulk or length of hair will not interfere with the normal wear of the headgear or protective masks.

 

17. Can sunglasses be worn in formation?

A. Only individuals who are required to wear sunglasses for medical reasons other than "refractive error" may wear them.

 

18. When must identification tags be worn?

A. Identification tags must be worn when engaged in field training, deployments or combat, traveling in an aircraft and outside the United States.

 

19. Who must insure that the individual soldier's uniforms and insignia conform to

AR 670-1?

A. The individual soldier.

 

20. What does the acronym BDU stand for?

A. Battle Dress Uniform.

 

21. The temperate and hot weather BDU has how many colors?

A. Four (4).

 

22. When can the Army black all weather coat be worn with BDUs?

A. The black all weather coat may be worn as a raincoat with these uniforms only in a garrison environment when organizational raingear has not been issued.

 

23. Can the hot weather and temperate uniforms be worn intermixed?

A. No.

 

24. BDU sleeves can be rolled no more than how many inches above the elbow?

A. The sleeves will be rolled neatly above the elbow but no more than 3 inches.

A. No.

A. No, only non-subdued pin-on insignia of grade will be worn on this coat.

64.  How will male side burns be worn?

A. 1) Neatly trimmed.

2) Base will not be flared and will be a clean shaven horizontal line.

3) Will not extend below the lowest part of exterior ear opening.

 

65.   How will a mustache be groomed?

A. 1) Neatly trimmed, tapered and tidy.

2) Will not present a chopped off appearance.

3) Will not cover the upper lip line or extend sideways beyond a vertical line drawn upward from the corner of the mouth.

 

66.  What does AR 670-1 state regarding the wear of earrings?

A. 1) Female soldiers are authorized optional wear of screw-on, clip-on, or post-type earrings with the service, dress and mess uniforms.

2) Earrings will not be worn with the Class C uniforms (utility, field or organizational to include hospital, duty, food, service and physical fitness uniforms).

3) Earrings will not exceed 6-mm or 1/4 inch in diameter.

4) They will be of gold, silver or white pearl; unadorned and spherical.

5) When worn, earrings will fit snugly against the ear and be worn as a matched pair with only one earring per ear lobe.

6) The band connecting non-pierced earrings may extend slightly below the ear lobe.

7) Male soldiers are not authorized to wear any type of earring when in uniform or when wearing civilian clothing on duty.
