SOLDIER'S MANUAL OF COMMON TASKS FM 21-11 SMCT

 1. The Army training system is based on a training ladder of collective and individual tasks. The training ladder consists of five (5) steps. What are those five steps?

A. 1) Systems.

2) Unit tasks.

3) Weapons systems.

4) Drills (ARTEP).

5) Individual tasks (SM).

2. To what standards are the individual tasks trained?

A. Individual tasks are trained to Soldier's Manual (SM) standards.

3. What is the purpose of the Soldier's Manual of Common Tasks (SMCT) for skill level 1?

A. This manual contains the standardized training objectives for the common tasks which will help soldiers fight, survive, and win in combat.

4. What is an effective unit training program?

A. An effective unit training program converts unproductive time into effective training time which upgrades the skill of individual soldiers, and just as important, upgrades the development of junior leaders. To properly develop this program, a four (4) step approach is recommended.

5. What are these four (4) steps?

A. 1) Set objectives for training.

2) Provide resources (i.e. personnel, time, funds, facilities, devices and training aids).

3) Train the trainers.

4) Evaluate results based on the objective.

6. Who is the key to training the individual soldiers assigned to the unit?

A. The NCO, (usually the first line supervisor).

7. Who ensures that the unit training plan prepares the unit for war by enabling soldiers to develop and sustain proficiency in the tasks for their MOS and skill level?

A. The NCO, (usually the first line supervisor).

8. What are the soldier's responsibilities for training conducted in the Soldier's Manual for Common Tasks?

A. Each soldier must be able to perform each task in the manual and must share the responsibility with the trainer to maintain those skills.

9. The Soldier's Manual for Common Tasks has been designed to assist the trainer in doing what the trainers get paid to do; train. It lists six (6) things the trainer must do to train effectively. What are these things?

A. 1) Plan the training.

2) Gather the training references and materials listed in the reference for each task to be trained.

3) Train each soldier.

4) Check each soldier.

5) Record the results.

6) Retrain and evaluate.

10. Describe the conditions statement given for each task in the STP 21-1-SMCT.

A. Where and when the task should be performed and what equipment is needed.

11. Describe the standards statement given for each task in the STP 21-1-SMCT.

A. It tells how well the task must be performed.

12. What is provided in the references section in the STP 21-1-SMCT?

A. It provides additional information on how the tasks should be performed.

13. What is a soldier's responsibility if he / she has a question regarding any task in the STP 21-1-SMCT?

A. If a soldier has a question about a task in the manual, it is the soldier's responsibility to ask the first-line supervisor for clarification.

14. What is sustainment training?

A. Training used to maintain necessary skills on tasks already known or learned. Task proficiency is sustained with supervised practice. Some tasks dealing with nuclear, biological, chemical (NBC) actions are so critical that they must be practiced throughout the soldier's career so that they can be done automatically when the need arises. When tasks are rarely performed, task proficiency tends to decrease. Tasks which are rarely performed in a unit should be identified. If these tasks are critical to mission success in a combat environment, training of rarely performed tasks should be scheduled more frequently than tasks which are routinely performed in the unit.

15. Is the STP 21-1-SMCT the only authorized source for the common tasks covered there-in.

A. Yes.
