Klein Oak 15-5A Champs,  Beat Coog's 1-0

Arguably the toughest district in the state of Texas finally named their district champion Friday night.  Klein Oak beat Tomball 1-0 to gain a first round bye for the 2002 playoffs, and take home the title of 15-5A Champions.  Tomball finished a very respectable second, and will play Langham Creek next week in bi-district playoffs.  Dates and times for the playoffs will be settled later.  While the game was very well played and full of playoff atmosphere, it is a shame it had to end the way it did.  Troy Patton took the loss (8-1), giving up an unearned run in the 5th on a questionable call.  With the bases loaded, two out and Oak's best hitter at the plate, an errant throw to the pitcher after a pitch sent the runner from third to the plate.  With the middle infield backing up the throw, second baseman Trae Williams scooped and threw to the plate.  The throw seemed to be in time as catcher Bobby Huff blocked the plate, but after a slight pause, the blue called him safe and the run scored.  Oak's J.R. Voyles (5-1) pitched extremely well, going the distance in the shutout.  Sophomore Cougar Dustin Rasco collected two hits in three at-bats on the night.   Carson Kainer and Grady Williams had Tomball's other hits.  With post-season preparation in the works, not many school's could be better of than the Cougars.  As Klein Oak had Senior night and said goodbye to nearly their entire team, Tomball had seven underclassmen on the field at the end of the game, including four sophomores in the infield.  Tomball finishes the regular season 19-6, with an impressive 11-3 mark in 15-5A.  But with the new season upon us, everyone just moved to 0-0.
